Book From Time to Time 1927 1987 Classic Reprint

This book was released on 2017-11-13 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from From Time to Time, 1927-1987 High school is said to be four of the best years ofour lives. To some, it is a time to learn and prepare for the future. But more than all that, high school is a time to have fun. Although some things never change, the definition of fun has changed in a big way over the past 60 years. In the earlier days of W - L, a large majority of the school attended the football games on Fri day nights. Although the attendance at games has increased in recent years, the stadium was far from sold out. Even so, our team always put out their best ef fort. In the '50's and '60's, the go-go boys increased the school spirit. They were athletes who attended other sporting events during their off-season. The basketball, crew and baseball teams would attend the football games and vice versa. Dances used to be a big thing here in Arlington. Students would grab a date and cruise on over 'to W - L's gym in Daddy's Studebaker. The tradition of attending school dances did not carry over into the '80's. Nowadays, if one has a date, he avoids the w-l dances. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Baxter's Second Innings: Specially Reported for the School Team I think the best thing I can do, if I must make a Preface, is to print this letter from Baxter's small brother to another boy: - Dear Charlie, Would you believe it? some fellow's written a Book about Fred! I think he's in an awful wax. N.B. The Book's a swindle. Except the story of a Castle (and one about a soldier or something) it's all yam. I've not read it. What a licking we gave the Junior Pelican! I made 13, but they bowl frightful sneaks. Please tell Whitemouse to send me the crib to Caesar instanter. Yours ever, Mike. P.S. Don't cut me for sending that book about Fred. I had to. And for my sake don't open it till Sunday. P.P.S. Monday. I've read it. It gets awfully serious some places. By the way, tell Whitemouse never to mind that crib just now. See how Broadwood pales with fear, Knowing we will never yield! Wave on high your banner blue, Cheer for comrades staunch and true; We are here to die or do, Fighting for old Yardley!" They sang it at the top of their voices as they came down the hill, arm in arm, and crossed the meadow toward the village. There was no one to hear, and they wouldn't have cared if there had been. Tom Dyer sang the bass, Alf Loring the tenor and Dan Vinton whatever was most convenient, since about the best he could do in a musical way was to make a noise. It was a glorious morning, in the middle of October, and there was a frosty nip in the air that made one want to sing or dance, and as they were in a hurry and dancing would have delayed them, they sang. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Golden-Rod, Vol. 24: April, 1915 Why is it that track sports do not flourish in the Quincy High School? There are many boys every year who have not the weight, nerve, or ability to play football, basket ball, or base ball; but they might make good in tract events. NO boy Should moan over the fact that he is too small or too slender for football; he may be able to run or jump, and thus do something for his school, and win his Q. Very little interest is shown in the inter-class meets which are held every spring; little, if any, practise in preparation for the meet is held. If enough boys will come out for the inter-class meet this year, a good team may be picked from the Winners Of the differ ent events, and later be developed into a good track team. We have not had a track meet with an outside School for three years. If this team is formed, perhaps meets with other Schools may be arranged. Book Latin School Register Vol 30

Download or read book Latin School Register Vol 30 written by Charles Christian Petersen and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Latin School Register, Vol. 30: April 1911 The Boston High School Regimen tal Athletic Meet was held in the South Armory, on Saturday, March 18, and resulted in an easy victory for the English High School. This meet has been won by the English High School team for several years past. The High School of Commerce was second, with 19 points, and the Boston Latin School was third, with 13 1-2 points. The winning team piled up 37 1 - 2 points. The remaining points were divided among the Brighton, Dorchester, Mechanic Arts, and Rox bury Schools. The prohibition of Spiked shoes took much interest from the games, and caused several of the runners to fall. The showing that our team made in the various events was rather disappointing on the whole, but this was almost counterbalanced by the splendid victory of our relay team over the fast English High School team in the last race of the meet. Much credit is due the mem bers of the team for their excellent performance. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latin School Register, Vol. 34: May 1915 To face the bare facts, it must be confessed that the base ball team has not done what it can. Some may say that there has not been enough prac tice - but does lack of practice account for muffed flies and passed grounders, does failure to watch the ball come from lack of practice? No, certainly not, but yet these are some of the most common faults of the team As one looks over the list of players, it must be said that there is some promising material.
