Download or read book Nuclear Pion Photoproduction written by Anton Nagl and published by Springer. This book was released on 1991-09-10 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photoproduction of pions from complex nuclei has become an investigative tool for (1) the detailed form of the elementary photopion amplitude, (2) the pion-nucleus optical potential, (3) nuclear structure, and (4) off-shell and medium effects on the elementary amplitude in nuclear processes. In this book, all these aspects are considered in detail. With improved experimental accuracy and beam tech- nology the study of nuclear pion photoproduction will break new ground and become an even more powerful investigative tool. This monograph is intended as an introductory guide as well as a reference manual for grad- uate students and researchers working in this important area of physics.
Download or read book Effective Field Theories written by Ulf-G Meißner and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2022-08-25 with total page 626 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Effective field theories are a widely used tool in various branches of physics. This book provides a comprehensive discussion of the foundations and fundamentals of effective field theories of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) in the light quark sector with an emphasis on the study of flavour symmetries and their realizations. In this context, different types of effective field theories pertaining to various energy scales are considered and selected applications are devised. It also covers the formulation of effective field theories in a finite volume and its application in the analysis of lattice QCD data. Effective Field Theories is intended for graduate students and researchers in particle physics, hadron physics and nuclear physics. Exercises are included to help the reader deepen their understanding of the topics discussed throughout, with solutions available to lecturers.

Download or read book Strangeness and Charge Symmetry Violation in Nucleon Structure written by Phiala Elisabeth Shanahan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-05-11 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis discusses two key topics: strangeness and charge symmetry violation (CSV) in the nucleon. It also provides a pedagogical introduction to chiral effective field theory tailored to the high-precision era of lattice quantum chromodynamics (QCD). Because the nucleon has zero net strangeness, strange observables give tremendous insight into the nature of the vacuum; they can only arise through quantum fluctuations in which strange–antistrange quark pairs are generated. As a result, the precise values of these quantities within QCD are important in physics arenas as diverse as precision tests of QCD, searches for physics beyond the Standard Model, and the interpretation of dark matter direct-detection experiments. Similarly, the precise knowledge of CSV observables has, with increasing experimental precision, become essential to the interpretation of many searches for physics beyond the Standard Model. In this thesis, the numerical lattice gauge theory approach to QCD is combined with the chiral perturbation theory formalism to determine strange and CSV quantities in a diverse range of observables including the octet baryon masses, sigma terms, electromagnetic form factors, and parton distribution functions. This thesis builds a comprehensive and coherent picture of the current status of understanding of strangeness and charge symmetry violation in the nucleon.

This book was released on 1998-09-02 with total page 554 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recent rapid innovations in supercomputer technology are changing the concepts of numerical calculations employed in solving a wide variety of nuclear many-body problems. The purpose of the XVII RCNP International Symposium on Innovative Computational Methods in Nuclear Many-Body Problems (INNOCOM97) was to discuss the frontiers of various computational methods and to exchange ideas in wide fields of nuclear physics. The subjects discussed at the symposium covered almost all the areas of nuclear physics.
