Book On the Numerical Solution of a Class of Nonlinear Problems in Dynamic Coupled Thermoelasticity

Download or read book On the Numerical Solution of a Class of Nonlinear Problems in Dynamic Coupled Thermoelasticity written by J. T. Oden and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The paper conerns the application of the finite-element method to the solution of certain nonlinear problems in thermoelasticity. Numerical solutions of transient, coupled thermoelasticity problems involving bodies which exhibit material nonlinearities and temperature-dependent thermal conductivity and specific heat are presented. General equations of motion and heat conduction of an arbitrary finite element are reduced so as to apply to the problem of transient response of a nonlinear thermoelastic half space subjected to a time-dependent temperature over its boundary. Book Analysis of Nonlinear Dynamic Coupled Thermoviscoelasticity Problems by the Finite Element Method

Download or read book Analysis of Nonlinear Dynamic Coupled Thermoviscoelasticity Problems by the Finite Element Method written by William H. Armstrong and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The investigation deals with the numerical solution of a class of nonlinear problems in transient, coupled, thermoviscoelasticity. Equations of motion and heat conduction are derived for finite elements of thermomechanically simple materials and these are adapted to special classes of thermorheologically simple materials. The analysis involves the solution of large systems of nonlinear integrodifferential equations in the nodal displacements and temperatures and their histories. As a representative example, the general equations are applied to the problem of transient response of a thick-walled hollow cylinder subjected to time-varying internal and external pressures, temperatures, and heat fluxes. The integration scheme used to solve the nonlinear equations employs a linear acceleration assumption, representation of nonlinear integral terms by Simpson's rule, and the iterative solution of large systems of nonlinear algebraic equations at each reduced time step by the Newton-Raphson method. Various numerical results are given and are compared with the linearized, isothermal, and quasi-static solutions. (Author).

Book Finite Elements of Nonlinear Continua

Download or read book Finite Elements of Nonlinear Continua written by J. T. Oden and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2013-04-15 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geared toward undergraduate and graduate students, this text extends applications of the finite element method from linear problems in elastic structures to a broad class of practical, nonlinear problems in continuum mechanics. It treats both theory and applications from a general and unifying point of view. The text reviews the thermomechanical principles of continuous media and the properties of the finite element method, and then brings them together to produce discrete physical models of nonlinear continua. The mathematical properties of these models are analyzed, along with the numerical solution of the equations governing the discrete model. Though the theory and methods are sufficiently general to be applied to any nonlinear problem, emphasis has been placed on problems in finite elasticity, viscoelasticity, heat conduction, and thermoviscoelasticity. Problems in rarefied gas dynamics and nonlinear partial differential equations are also examined. Other topics include topological properties of finite element models, applications to linear and nonlinear boundary value problems, and discrete models of nonlinear thermomechanical behavior of dissipative media. This comprehensive text is valuable not only to students of structural analysis and continuum mechanics but also to professionals researching the numerical analysis of continua

Book Mathematical Models of Higher Orders

Download or read book Mathematical Models of Higher Orders written by Vadim A. Krysko and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-02-11 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a valuable methodological approach to the state-of-the-art of the classical plate/shell mathematical models, exemplifying the vast range of mathematical models of nonlinear dynamics and statics of continuous mechanical structural members. The main objective highlights the need for further study of the classical problem of shell dynamics consisting of mathematical modeling, derivation of nonlinear PDEs, and of finding their solutions based on the development of new and effective numerical techniques. The book is designed for a broad readership of graduate students in mechanical and civil engineering, applied mathematics, and physics, as well as to researchers and professionals interested in a rigorous and comprehensive study of modeling non-linear phenomena governed by PDEs.
