Book Evolutionary Classification and English based Nomenclature in Cretaceous Planktic Foraminifera

Download or read book Evolutionary Classification and English based Nomenclature in Cretaceous Planktic Foraminifera written by M. Dan Georgescu and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2014-01-11 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, evolutionary classification and nomenclature in the Cretaceous planktic foraminifera with at least one stage with chambers alternately added with respect to the test growth axis are analysed in seven articles. The first article in this book presents new data about the group's evolutionary origin and different aspects of the iterative evolution of the planktic habitat in the foraminiferal history, together with a critical review of some past ideas on this topic. A new benthic foraminiferal genus is described. The evolution of different lineages is presented in five successive articles, which show the importance of high resolution data in reconstructing the group's evolutionary history. Four new lineages are described. A new perspective on the classification of the planktic foraminifera is presented in the last article, where at the scale of the entire group a new and upward evolutionary classification, is applied. The fundamental unit of organisation is changed from species to lineage through a shift at paradigm level in understanding the evolution of the fossil record. In further developments in evolutionary classification, a new nomenclature system is applied. The new nomenclature uses English instead of Latin and has a rate of compression of around 1:18 (one English word for 18 Latin words).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book consists of a collection of ten articles covering a variety of modern research topics in foraminiferal classification, stratigraphic distribution, ecology, paleoceanography and evolution. Significant contributions include road-opening studies in the evolutionary occurrence of the group in the Early Jurassic and evolutionary classification of the Cretaceous heterohelicid, planomalinid and globotruncanid planktics. Two general descriptions of the benthic foraminiferal assemblages from the Late Jurassic of Canada and modern sediments of the central Mediterranean Sea further add to the conceptual high density of the volume. A distinct advance in the biostratigraphy of the benthic foraminifera is the definition of the concept of biosequence, which is crucial for a better integration of the foraminiferal changes in time and space with the sequence stratigraphy concepts. Ecology and oceanography studies in both modern and ancient settings focus, among others, on the changes at the Cretaceous/Cenozoic boundary in the Tethyan Region and modern anoxia influences on the foraminiferal communities of the Black Sea. The variety of new and well-documented ideas, data and interpretations complement and at the same time challenge the already existing ones. Overall, the volume is of potential high interest for the foraminiferologists involved in both fundamental and applied inland and offshore studies.

Book Evolution and Geological Significance of Larger Benthic Foraminifera Second Edition

Download or read book Evolution and Geological Significance of Larger Benthic Foraminifera Second Edition written by Marcelle K. Boudaugher-Fadel and published by UCL Press. This book was released on 2018-04-30 with total page 704 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evolution and Geological Significance of Larger Benthic Foraminifera is a unique, comprehensive reference work on the larger benthic foraminifera. This second edition is substantially revised, including extensive re-analysis of the most recent work on Cenozoic forms. It provides documentation of the biostratigraphic ranges and palaeoecological significance of the larger foraminifera, which is essential for understanding many major oil-bearing sedimentary basins. In addition, it offers a palaeogeographic interpretation of the shallow marine late Palaeozoic to Cenozoic world. Marcelle K. BouDagher-Fadel collects and significantly adds to the information already published on the larger benthic foraminifera. New research in the Far East, the Middle East, South Africa, Tibet and Americas has provided fresh insights into the evolution and palaeographic significance of these vital reef-forming forms. With the aid of new and precise biostratigraphic dating, she presents revised phylogenies and ranges of the larger foraminifera. The book is illustrated throughout, with examples of different families and groups at the generic levels. Key species are discussed and their biostratigraphic ranges are depicted in comparative charts, which can be found at http://discovery.ucl.ac.uk/10047587/2/Charts.pdf.

Book Foraminifera

    Book Details:
  • Author : Joseph Augustine Cushman
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 1948
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 624 pages

Download or read book Foraminifera written by Joseph Augustine Cushman and published by . This book was released on 1948 with total page 624 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the fourth revised and enlarged edition of the standard guide to the Foraminifera, the order of small marine Protozoa whose living and fossilized forms have attracted both scientific and economic interest during the past century. Research on the Foraminifera has developed rapidly in the last few years, because of their value to the petroleum industry and in general geologic correlation. The classification in this volume is that of the earlier editions, with such changes as could be made by new evidence which has come to light. It is based upon the known geologic history of the genera, the phylogenetic characters as distinguished through study of much fossil material from all continents, and a study of the ontogeny in many microspheric specimens which show relationships more definitely than megalospheric specimens of the same species. Fifty families, including about seven hundred and fifty genera, are systematically described and illustrated in the text and Key. A comprehensive bibliography, listing titles and authors of the most important works on the Foraminifera, is arranged according to geologic age and geographic distribution, morphology and technique, classification and nomenclature, and general bibliographical references. An index to family and generic names, both valid and invalid, is included.

This book was released on 2021-06-12 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foraminiferal Micropaleontology for Understanding Earth’s History incorporates new findings on taxonomy, classification and biostratigraphy of foraminifera. Foraminifera offer the best geochemical proxies for paleoclimate and paleoenvironment interpretation. The study of foraminifera was promoted by oil exploration due to its exceptional use in subsurface stratigraphy. A rapid technological development in the past 20 years in the field of imaging microfossils and in geochemical microanalysis have added novel information about foraminifera. Foraminiferal Micropaleontology for Understanding Earth’s History builds an understanding of biology, morphology and classification of foraminifera for its varied applications. In the past two decades, a phenomenal growth has occurred in geochemical proxies in shells of foraminifera, and as a result, crucial information about past climate of the earth is achieved. Foraminifera is the most extensively used marine microfossils in deep-time reconstruction of the earth history. Its key applications are in paleoenvironment and paleoclimate interpretation, paleoceanography, and biostratigraphy to continuously improve the Geologic Time Scale. Provides an overview of the Earth history as witnessed and evidenced by foraminifera Discusses a variety of geochemical proxies used in reconstruction of environment, climate and paleobiology of foraminifera Presents a new insight into the morphology and classification of foraminifera by modern tools of x-ray microscopy, quantitative methods, and molecular research
