Watkins and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The derivation of the integral equation which involves this kernel function, originally performed elsewhere (see, for example, NACA Technical Memorandum 979) is reproduced as an appendix. A second appendix gives the reduction of the form of the kernel function obtained herein for the three-dimensional case to a known result of Possio for two-dimensional flow.

Book Noise Survey of a 10 foot Four blade Turbine driven Propeller Under Static Condtions

Download or read book Noise Survey of a 10 foot Four blade Turbine driven Propeller Under Static Condtions written by Max C. Kurbjun and published by . This book was released on 1955 with total page 686 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theoretical calculations of the sound-pressure levels by the method of NACA TN 2968 predict accurately, for the 10-foot propeller investigated, the location of and the maximum levels to be expected for the overall noise and the first two propeller harmonics. The calculations do not predict accurately the location of the maximum sound-pressure levels ad the maximum calculated levels are 10 and 13 decibels lower than the msximm messured levels for the third and fourth harmonics, respectively.

Book Investigation of a Slat in Several Different Positions on an NACA 64A010 Airfoil for a Wide Range of Subsonic Mach Numbers

Download or read book Investigation of a Slat in Several Different Positions on an NACA 64A010 Airfoil for a Wide Range of Subsonic Mach Numbers written by John A. Axelson and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 696 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation of the two-dimensional aerodynamic characteristics of an NACA 64A010 airfoil with a slat has been conducted in the Mach number range from 0.25 to 0.85, with a corresponding Reynolds number range from 3.4 million to 8.1 million. Two families of slat positions were investigated, one with the slat leading edge extended forward along the airfoil chord line, and the other with the slat extended forward and displaced below the chord line.

Book Contemporary Research in Engineering Science

Download or read book Contemporary Research in Engineering Science written by Romesh C. Batra and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 696 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fatigue failures occur in aerospace, marine, nuclear structures and automobile com ponents from initiation and propagation of cracks from holes, scratches or defects in the material. To design against these failures, crack propagation life and fracture strength need to be accurately predicted. It is reported in the literature, that these failures often initiate as surface cracks, corner cracks and cracks emanating from fastner holes. Such cracks are with elliptic or nearly elliptic in shapes. The deviation from elliptic shape is due to varying constraint effect along the crack front. Even in situations, when the cracks are through the thickness of the material, there would be thicknesswise variation of constraint effects leading to three dimensional nature of crack growth. Accurate predictions of the crack growth in these cases by numerical methods can be made only by solving three-dimensional boundary value problems. Empirical relationships have been developed [1] based on Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics over years describing fatigue crack growth response. Some of these empirical relationships required modifications in the later stages, to meet the design applications. The Crack closure phenomenon discovered by Elber[2, 3] during the crack growth phase is mainly attributed to the local material yielding near the crack tip and the consequent residual plastic wake behind the crack tip. It helped considerably in understanding several aspects of fatigue crack growth and rewrite these relations.

Book Aeroservoelasticity

Download or read book Aeroservoelasticity written by Ashish Tewari and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-03-24 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph presents the state of the art in aeroservoelastic (ASE) modeling and analysis and develops a systematic theoretical and computational framework for use by researchers and practicing engineers. It is the first book to focus on the mathematical modeling of structural dynamics, unsteady aerodynamics, and control systems to evolve a generic procedure to be applied for ASE synthesis. Existing robust, nonlinear, and adaptive control methodology is applied and extended to some interesting ASE problems, such as transonic flutter and buffet, post-stall buffet and maneuvers, and flapping flexible wing. The author derives a general aeroservoelastic plant via the finite-element structural dynamic model, unsteady aerodynamic models for various regimes in the frequency domain, and the associated state-space model by rational function approximations. For more advanced models, the full-potential, Euler, and Navier-Stokes methods for treating transonic and separated flows are also briefly addressed. Essential ASE controller design and analysis techniques are introduced to the reader, and an introduction to robust control-law design methods of LQG/LTR and H2/H∞ synthesis is followed by a brief coverage of nonlinear control techniques of describing functions and Lyapunov functions. Practical and realistic aeroservoelastic application examples derived from actual experiments are included throughout. Aeroservoelasiticity fills an important gap in the aerospace engineering literature and will be a valuable guide for graduate students and advanced researchers in aerospace engineering, as well as professional engineers, technicians, and test pilots in the aircraft industry and laboratories.
