Download or read book On the Haustoria of the Erysipheae Classic Reprint written by Grant Smith and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-26 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from On the Haustoria of the Erysipheae The study of plant structure and development as a means of revealing relationships in plants appealed to botanists immediately upon the advent of the microscope, but the study of structure and development as a means of revealing functions is a.more recent field of investigation which has already produced most valuable results. While the questions concerning the important functions of reproduction must be largely answered from the side of structure there are also other functions performed by vital organs too minute and too intangible for investigation by experiment. Careful observations of the changes occurring in the growing haustoria of a parasitic fungus: must add to our special knowledge of the functions of the fungus, and to our knowledge of parasitism in.general. That the progressive study of structure must to a large extent accompany inquiries in biology is well illustrated in the early literature on the Erysipheae, which was produced at a.time when the possibilities of microscopic study were Just beginning to be appreciated. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Indian Erysiphaceae' is a monographic work on the powdery mildew fungi based on the teliomorphic stage collected on 86 different host species from various agroecological zones of Himachal Pradesh. So far, 22 genera and about 300 species of powdery mildew fungi have been described from India, but all is scattered in mycological literature. An attempt has been made to compile all the species reported from India. Each of the genus studied has been included in separate chapter. Besides, host index, fungus index and references, the species described in the present studies and those described from India have been presented in tabular form in the end alongwith the references. Camera lucida drawings and coloured microphotographs have also been provided. This monograph will provide a base for future compilations of the work on Indian Erysiphaceae and will be of great use to the students and researchers not only in India but abroad also.

Book Powdery Mildew Disease of Crucifers Biology Ecology and Disease Management

Download or read book Powdery Mildew Disease of Crucifers Biology Ecology and Disease Management written by Govind Singh Saharan and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-22 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Powdery mildew disease is the fourth most widespread disease in cruciferous crops and a devastating effect, causing significant losses in terms of quality and quantity in rapeseed and mustard. Powdery mildews are also a favourable host-pathosystem model for basic research on host–parasite interactions, developmental morphology, cytology, and molecular biology to identify the effector proteins/genes governing different biological functions. This book provides a comprehensive overview of all the published information in the field for researchers, teachers, students, extension experts, industrialists and farmers, and includes illustrations, photographs, graphs, figures, tables, histograms, micrographs, electron micrographs, and flow charts to aid understanding. It also describes standardized reducible techniques. The book discusses each disease in detail, describing the distribution, symptomatology, host range, yield losses and disease assessment, as well as the taxonomy, morphology, phylogeny, variability, sporulation, survival and perpetuation of the pathogen. Further, it explores topics such as spore germination; infection; pathogenesis; disease cycle; epidemiology; forecasting; fine structures; host resistance; biochemical, histological, genetic and molecular aspects such as cloning and mapping of R genes; sources of resistance; disease resistance breeding; and the genetics of host-parasite interactions and disease management.
