Book On the Equations for Axisymmetric Deformation of Shallow Shells of Revolution

Download or read book On the Equations for Axisymmetric Deformation of Shallow Shells of Revolution written by Stanford University. Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The equations governing the axisymmetric deformation of shallow shells (caps) of revolution are derived without introducing the simplifying assumption concerning the transverse shear force that is basic to the Mushtari-Vlasov approximation of thin shell theory. The equations derived are then specialized for the case of shallow spherical caps and compared with the Reissner equation which is a special case of the Mushtari-Vlasov approximation. Two problems are solved and the results are compared with the corresponding solutions of the Reissner equation. (Author).

Book Stability of Nonlinear Shells

Download or read book Stability of Nonlinear Shells written by D. Shilkrut and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-06-18 with total page 483 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stability of NonLinear Shells is a compilation of the author's work on analyzing the behaviour of spherical caps and related shell structures under various (axisymmetric) load systems. Differing from other texts on shells of revolution, it is one of the first attempts to deal with effects of multi-parameter load systems. This extension leads to the discovery of some new, hitherto unknown phenomena exhibited by these structures. In addition, the book presents a novel way to characterize properties of solutions of the governing equations for spherical caps - a classification anchored in a theory called reciprocal systems. The author has introduced a deformation map, a projection of multi-dimensional solutions to two-dimensional graphs, to enable analysts to gain insight into the physical meaning of the results obtained. Numerous examples illustrate the concepts introduced. This book also comes to grips with many misconceptions existing in engineering literature about the question of the stability of solutions.

Book The Effect of Stiffening Shallow Shells of Revolution Subject to Symmetrical Loading

Download or read book The Effect of Stiffening Shallow Shells of Revolution Subject to Symmetrical Loading written by V. M. Mitkevich and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A discussion is presented of the relationship between the stiffening of shallow shells of revolution by stringers in the meridional direction and the stress and strain states in the shells. The case of a frustum of a conical shell with stiffeners in the longitudinal direction is analyzed. The slope angle of the shell varies from zero to pi/6. The shell is considered structurally orthotropic on the basis of known equilibrium equations (in terms of forces and moments) for an element of an axisymmetric shell, elasticity relationships, and equations for continuity of strains in the middle surface. The problem is reduced to the solution of a system of five regular differential equations. The system was integrated by the numerical Adams method on an Ural-2 electronic digital computer. A standard program developed and the Institute of Mechanics of the Academy of Sciences Ukrainian SSR was utilized. The calculations were carried out for frustums of conical shells of constant thickness (plain and stiffened by constant-cross-section stringers). The bottom base of the shells was fixed; the upper was free. Two cases of loading were considered: constant internal pressure and axial force. The results obtained are plotted in diagrams and compared, and the effects of stiffening on certain stress and strain parameters for various slope angles are discussed. (Author).

Book Nonlinear Static and Dynamic Analysis of Shells of Revolution Under Axisymmetric Loading

Download or read book Nonlinear Static and Dynamic Analysis of Shells of Revolution Under Axisymmetric Loading written by Sambamurthy Nagarajan and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method of analyzing nonlinear static and dynamic responses of deformable solids has been developed based on an incremental variational formulation using the Lagrangian mode of description. The material nonlinearity due to plasticity or viscoplasticity as well as the geometric nonlinearity due to large displacements are considered. The equations of motion are obtained in a linearized incremental form using the principle of virtual work and solved using step-by-step numerical integration procedures. Equilibrium check is made at the end of each step and the residual forces are added to the next increment for improved accuracy over the pure incremental method. For elastic-plastic solutions the flow theory of plasticity is used along with the von Mises yield condition for isotropically hardening materials. The viscoplastic constitutive theory is also in the form of an associated flow law and capable of considering strain rate sensitive behavior. The viscoplastic strains are taken into account using an initial strain formulation. The discretization of the structure is achieved by the use of degenerate isoparametric finite elements and the computer codes that have been developed are capable of analyzing large axisymmetric deformations of shells of revolution.
