Book On the Dispersed Two phase Flow in the Laminar Flow Regime

Download or read book On the Dispersed Two phase Flow in the Laminar Flow Regime written by Novak Zuber and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The time-dependent, dispersed, two-phase flow problem for the laminar flow regime is formulated. In agreement with Burgers' description of the flow, the analysis takes into account the effect of both the motion and the presence of other particles. The steady-state solution of the governing set of equations is applied to an analysis of sedimentation and of fluidization (batch, cocurrent and countercurrent). Good agreement with experimental data is shown. The steady-state results give a formulation and a confirmation of the basic premise in the theory of Elgin and Lapidus for vertical two phase flow systems. The theory of kinematic waves proposed by Kynch and by Lighthill and Whitham is used to analyze the transient response, i.e., the diffusion process, and to predict the diffusivity in two-phase flow. The kinematic wave theory is used also to predict the operating limits imposed on the system by the flooding phenomenon. (Author).

Book Two Phase Flow in Complex Systems

Download or read book Two Phase Flow in Complex Systems written by Salomon Levy and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 1999 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first comprehensive, real-world look at two-phase flow systems-from one of the world's leading authorities on the subject. From his early works in the area of heat transfer research on boundary layer flows and two-phase flows to his role as one of the lead consultants following the Three Mile Island accident, internationally renowned engineer Salomon Levy has achieved an ideal balance of theory and practice in his engineering career. In Two-Phase Flow in Complex Systems, Dr. Levy's newest book, he draws on this breadth of experience to examine these systems in the real world. Two-Phase Flow in Complex Systems offers a unique look at two-phase flow phenomena (primarily gas and liquid) in a variety of systems, from water reactors to the global climate system. Focusing on the interaction and simultaneous behavior of all the components in a system, the book's approach departs significantly from conventional texts, which emphasize modeling of separate phenomena. The book begins with the formulation of an integrated program of experiments and analytical tools, and describes experimental aspects-specifically the scaling of test facilities-essential to representing the critical elements of the behavior of complex systems. Subsequent chapters: * Discuss system computer codes for predicting system behavior during transients and accidents. * Examine flow pattern maps and flow pattern models. * Describe typical limiting phenomena known to impact the safety and cost of complex systems (including countercurrent limiting conditions and critical or choking flow). The book also illustrates how the analysis used in understanding the dynamics of a nuclear power system can be applied to the entire global climate system, including the phenomenon of global warming.

  • ISBN : 1483272982
  • Pages : 662 pages

Download or read book Rheology written by Frederick R. Eirich and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 662 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rheology: Theory and Applications, Volume 5 focuses on overtly fluid behavior of polymers, including the theory of large deformations, thermoelastic effects, elastic phenomena observed during the extrusion of polymeric melts, and theories of the structure of liquids and glasses. The selection first elaborates on the application of large deformation theory to the thermomechanical behavior of rubberlike polymers and unstable flow of molten polymers. Discussions focus on the mechanism proposed for unstable flow, ripple and associated effects, direct observation of waviness phenomena, empirical behavior of porous, unfilled, and filled rubberlike polymers, and problems connected with the interpretation of mechanical response parameters. The text then examines elasticity effects in polymer extrusion and strength and extensibility of elastomers. The publication takes a look at free volume and polymer rheology and studies of the deformation of crystalline polymers. Topics include the contribution of the two orientation processes to the birefringence, deformation of superstructure, rate of orientation of crystalline regions, free volume and physical state, glass transition and free volume, and reappraisal of time-temperature superposition. The manuscript also elaborates on the deformation and dissipative processes in high polymeric solids and the thermodynamics of deformation. The selection is a vital source of data for researchers interested in the theories and applications of rheology.

Book Advances in Two Phase Flow and Heat Transfer

Download or read book Advances in Two Phase Flow and Heat Transfer written by Sadik Kakaç and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past two decades, two-phase flow and heat transfer problems associated with two-phase phenomena have been a challenge to many investigators. Two-phase flow applications are found in a wide range of engineering systems, such as nuclear and conventional power plants, evaporators of refrigeration systems and a wide vari ety of evaporative and condensive heat exchangers in the chemical industry. This publication is based on the invited lectures presented at the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on the Advances in Two-Phase Flow and Heat Transfer. The Horkshop was attended by more than 50 leading scientists and practicing engineers who work actively on two-phase flow and heat transfer research and applications in dif ferent sectors (academia, government, industry) of member countries of NATO. Some scientific leaders and experts on the subject matter from the non-NATO countries were also invited. They convened to discuss the state-of-the-art in two-phase flow and heat transfer and formulated recommendations for future research directions. To achieve these goals, invited key papers and a limited number of contributions were presented and discussed. The specific aspects of the subject were treated in depth in the panel sessions, and the unresolved problems identified. Suitable as a practical reference, these volumes incorporate a systematic approach to two-phase flow analysis.
