Book A Simplified Molecular Model for Studying Vibration dissociation Coupling in Fluid Flows

Download or read book A Simplified Molecular Model for Studying Vibration dissociation Coupling in Fluid Flows written by Walter Albert Reinhardt and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A simplified mathematical model is derived that is useful for studying the effects of vibration-dissociation coupling in fluid flows. The derivation is based on energy-moment procedure for simplifying the master equations. To obtain the model equations it is assumed that the vibrational energy can be approximated by the introduction of two vibrational temperatures. The effects of molecular anharmonicity are also accounted for in an approximate manner. The parameters contained within the equations are evaluated by making comparisons with experimental data. It is shown that the model contains the minimum required structure allowing favorable agreement with existing experimental data. Numerical solutions are given for the quasi-steady zone behind a normal shock wave, for the complete structure of a shock wave, and for nozzle flow. The results provide the appropriate pre-exponential temperature dependence of the effective dissociation rate, yield and induction time before dissociation is observed, and, in the case of expanding flow, yield one-fourth less effective relaxation time than the Landau-Teller theory. The thermodynamic quantities for the vibrational mode (partition function, internal energy, and specific heat) agree accurately with like quantities evaluated from spectroscopic data. By the introduction of appropriate assumptions it is shown that the equations reduce to a form identical to the Marrone-Treanor model except for a "truncation factor". When the vibrational temperatures are not large, the model is identical to that of Landau and Teller. The numerical procedure used to integrate the system of rate and flow equations is also described.

Book Extremal Polynomials and Riemann Surfaces

Download or read book Extremal Polynomials and Riemann Surfaces written by Andrei Bogatyrev and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-05-31 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problems of conditional optimization of the uniform (or C-) norm for polynomials and rational functions arise in various branches of science and technology. Their numerical solution is notoriously difficult in case of high degree functions. The book develops the classical Chebyshev's approach which gives analytical representation for the solution in terms of Riemann surfaces. The techniques born in the remote (at the first glance) branches of mathematics such as complex analysis, Riemann surfaces and Teichmüller theory, foliations, braids, topology are applied to approximation problems. The key feature of this book is the usage of beautiful ideas of contemporary mathematics for the solution of applied problems and their effective numerical realization. This is one of the few books where the computational aspects of the higher genus Riemann surfaces are illuminated. Effective work with the moduli spaces of algebraic curves provides wide opportunities for numerical experiments in mathematics and theoretical physics.

Book Construction Of Integration Formulas For Initial Value Problems

Download or read book Construction Of Integration Formulas For Initial Value Problems written by P.J. Van Der Houwen and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Construction of Integration Formulas for Initial Value Problems provides practice-oriented insights into the numerical integration of initial value problems for ordinary differential equations. It describes a number of integration techniques, including single-step methods such as Taylor methods, Runge-Kutta methods, and generalized Runge-Kutta methods. It also looks at multistep methods and stability polynomials. Comprised of four chapters, this volume begins with an overview of definitions of important concepts and theorems that are relevant to the construction of numerical integration methods for initial value problems. It then turns to a discussion of how to convert two-point and initial boundary value problems for partial differential equations into initial value problems for ordinary differential equations. The reader is also introduced to stiff differential equations, partial differential equations, matrix theory and functional analysis, and non-linear equations. The order of approximation of the single-step methods to the differential equation is considered, along with the convergence of a consistent single-step method. There is an explanation on how to construct integration formulas with adaptive stability functions and how to derive the most important stability polynomials. Finally, the book examines the consistency, convergence, and stability conditions for multistep methods. This book is a valuable resource for anyone who is acquainted with introductory calculus, linear algebra, and functional analysis.

Book The Numerical Solution of Partial Differential Equations Governing Convection

Download or read book The Numerical Solution of Partial Differential Equations Governing Convection written by Harvard Lomax and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The time-dependent Navier-Stokes equations are a mathematical model for fluid flows that contain two quite different physical phenomena. These phenomena are contained in the formula representing the conservation of momentum and are referred to as convection and dissipation. The optimum numerical reduction from differential to difference equations of the terms that model these two aspects of fluid flow can be quite different. The report is devoted to a simple but systematic study of the numerical methods best suited for the analysis of convection. (Author).
