Book Evaluation of Bearing Capacity of Piles from Cone Penetration Test Data

Download or read book Evaluation of Bearing Capacity of Piles from Cone Penetration Test Data written by Hani H. Titi and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study presents an evaluation of the performance of eight cone penetration test (CPT) methods in predicting the ultimate load carrying capacity of square precast prestressed concrete (PPC) piles driven into Louisiana soils. Sixty piles were identified, collected, and analyzed. The following methods were used to predict the load carrying capacity of the collected piles using the CPT data: Schmertmann, Bustamante and Gianeselli (LCPC/LCP), de Ruiter and Beringen, Tumay and Fakhroo, Price and Wardle, Philipponnat, Aoki and De Alencar, and the penpile method. The ultimate load carrying capacity for each pile was also predicted using the static method, which is used by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development for pile design and analysis.

Book Evaluation of Bearing Capacity of Driven Piles from Stress Wave Measurements

Download or read book Evaluation of Bearing Capacity of Driven Piles from Stress Wave Measurements written by H. Brendenberg and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The driving resistance of piles and the bearing capacity can be evaluated by measuring with strain gages and accelerometers attached to the top of the pile both the stress wave that is generated when the hammer strikes the pile and the stress wave that is reflected at the toe and along the sides of the pile. The bearing capacity is, however, affected by the loading rate. This effect is taken into account by a damping factor Jc. It is then assumed that the increase of the bearing capacity is proportional to the particle velocity at the pile point. For piles in clay and silt the stress wave measurements should be carried out during the redriving of the piles a few days or weeks after the initial pile was driven when the excess pore-water pressures have dissipated.
