This book was released on 1987 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A lot of work has been done towards the direction of developing communication protocols that determine how a single common resource can be efficiently shared by a large population of users. By now, it is well known that fixed assignment techniques are not appropriate for a system with large population of bursty users. In the latter case, random access protocols are more efficient and many of them have been suggested. Usually, the amount of information transmitted per time is of fixed length, called a packet. In most of the systems, time is divided into slots of length equal to the time needed for a packet transmission (slotted systems). The deployment of an ever increasing number of multi-user random access communication networks, Brought up the question of how packets whose destination is another network, should be handled. Thus, the issue of network interconnection or multi-hop packet transmission, arises, 3, 6, 7. The basic problem in analyzing interconnected systems is that of characterizing the output process of a multi-user random access communication system; i.e., the departure process of the successfully transmitted packets.

This book was released on 2007-05-08 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the rapidly increasing penetration of laptop computers and mobile phones, which are primarily used by mobile users to access Internet s- vices like e-mail and World Wide Web (WWW) access, support of Internet services in a mobile environment is an emerging requirement. Wireless n- works have been used for communication among fully distributed users in a multimedia environment that has the needs to provide real-time bursty traffic (such as voice or video) and data traffic with excellent reliability and service quality. To satisfy the huge wireless multimedia service demand and improve the system performance, efficient channel access methods and analytical methods must be provided. In this way very accurate models, that faithfully reproduce the stochastic behavior of multimedia wireless communication and computer networks, can be constructed. Most of these system models are discrete-time queueing systems. Queueing networks and Markov chains are commonly used for the p- formance and reliability evaluation of computer, communication, and m- ufacturing systems. Although there are quite a few books on the individual topics of queueing networks and Markov chains, we have found none that covers the topics of discrete-time and continuous-time multichannel mul- traffic queueing networks. On the other hand, the design and development of multichannel mul- hop network systems and interconnected network systems or integrated n- works of multimedia traffic require not only such average performance m- sures as the throughput or packet delay but also higher moments of traffic departures and transmission delay.

This book was released on 1988 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many communication applications with time constraints (e.g., transmission of packetized voice messages), a critical performance measure is the percentage of messages which are transmitted within a given amount of time after their generation at the transmitting station. In this talk we present a random access algorithm (RAA) suitable for time-constrained applications. Performance analysis demonstrates that significant message delay improvement is attained, at the expense of minimal traffic loss. We also consider the case of noisy channels. The noise effect appears at erroneously observed channel feedback. Error sensitivity analysis shows that the proposed random access algorithm is insensitive to feedback channel errors. Window Random Access Algorithms (RAAs) are considered next. These algorithms constitute an important subclass of Multiple Access Algorithms (MAAs); they are distributive and they attain high throughput and low delays by controlling the number of simultaneously transmitting users. Download or read book Wireless Communications written by Andrea Goldsmith and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2005-08-08 with total page 674 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wireless technology is a truly revolutionary paradigm shift, enabling multimedia communications between people and devices from any location. It also underpins exciting applications such as sensor networks, smart homes, telemedicine, and automated highways. This book provides a comprehensive introduction to the underlying theory, design techniques and analytical tools of wireless communications, focusing primarily on the core principles of wireless system design. The book begins with an overview of wireless systems and standards. The characteristics of the wireless channel are then described, including their fundamental capacity limits. Various modulation, coding, and signal processing schemes are then discussed in detail, including state-of-the-art adaptive modulation, multicarrier, spread spectrum, and multiple antenna techniques. The concluding chapters deal with multiuser communications, cellular system design, and ad-hoc network design. Design insights and tradeoffs are emphasized throughout the book. It contains many worked examples, over 200 figures, almost 300 homework exercises, over 700 references, and is an ideal textbook for students.
