Book Initial Boundary Value Problems and the Navier Stokes Equation

Download or read book Initial Boundary Value Problems and the Navier Stokes Equation written by Heinz-Otto Kreiss and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2004-01-01 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Initial-Boundary Value Problems and the Navier-Stokes Equations gives an introduction to the vast subject of initial and initial-boundary value problems for PDEs. Applications to parabolic and hyperbolic systems are emphasized in this text. The Navier-Stokes equations for compressible and incompressible flows are taken as an example to illustrate the results. The subjects addressed in the book, such as the well-posedness of initial-boundary value problems, are of frequent interest when PDEs are used in modeling or when they are solved numerically. The book explains the principles of these subjects. The reader will learn what well-posedness or ill-posedness means and how it can be demonstrated for concrete problems. Audience: when the book was written, the main intent was to write a text on initial-boundary value problems that was accessible to a rather wide audience. Functional analytical prerequisites were kept to a minimum or were developed in the book. Boundary conditions are analyzed without first proving trace theorems, and similar simplifications have been used throughout. This book continues to be useful to researchers and graduate students in applied mathematics and engineering.

Book Numerical Solution of Boundary Value Problems for Ordinary Differential Equations

Download or read book Numerical Solution of Boundary Value Problems for Ordinary Differential Equations written by Uri M. Ascher and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1994-12-01 with total page 620 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the most comprehensive, up-to-date account of the popular numerical methods for solving boundary value problems in ordinary differential equations. It aims at a thorough understanding of the field by giving an in-depth analysis of the numerical methods by using decoupling principles. Numerous exercises and real-world examples are used throughout to demonstrate the methods and the theory. Although first published in 1988, this republication remains the most comprehensive theoretical coverage of the subject matter, not available elsewhere in one volume. Many problems, arising in a wide variety of application areas, give rise to mathematical models which form boundary value problems for ordinary differential equations. These problems rarely have a closed form solution, and computer simulation is typically used to obtain their approximate solution. This book discusses methods to carry out such computer simulations in a robust, efficient, and reliable manner.

Book Hyperbolic Boundary Value Problems

Download or read book Hyperbolic Boundary Value Problems written by Reiko Sakamoto and published by CUP Archive. This book was released on 1982-07-08 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Boundary value problems are of central importance and interest not only to mathematicians but also to physicists and engineers who need to solve differential equations which govern the behaviour of physical systems. In this book, Professor Sakamoto introduces the general theory of the existence and uniqueness of solutions to the wave equation. The reader is assumed to have some familiarity with Lebesgue integration and complex function theory but other than that the book is essentially self-contained. It is therefore suited to senior undergraduates and graduates in mathematics and the mathematical sciences but can be read with profit by professionals in those subjects.

Book Difference Methods for Initial Boundary Value Problems and Flow Around Bodies

Download or read book Difference Methods for Initial Boundary Value Problems and Flow Around Bodies written by You-lan Zhu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 606 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the appearance of computers, numerical methods for discontinuous solutions of quasi-linear hyperbolic systems of partial differential equations have been among the most important research subjects in numerical analysis. The authors have developed a new difference method (named the singularity-separating method) for quasi-linear hyperbolic systems of partial differential equations. Its most important feature is that it possesses a high accuracy even for problems with singularities such as schocks, contact discontinuities, rarefaction waves and detonations. Besides the thorough description of the method itself, its mathematical foundation (stability-convergence theory of difference schemes for initial-boundary-value hyperbolic problems) and its application to supersonic flow around bodies are discussed. Further, the method of lines and its application to blunt body problems and conical flow problems are described in detail. This book should soon be an important working basis for both graduate students and researchers in the field of partial differential equations as well as in mathematical physics.

Book Numerical Methods in Fluid Dynamics

Download or read book Numerical Methods in Fluid Dynamics written by Gary A. Sod and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1985-10-31 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here is an introduction to numerical methods for partial differential equations with particular reference to those that are of importance in fluid dynamics. The author gives a thorough and rigorous treatment of the techniques, beginning with the classical methods and leading to a discussion of modern developments. For easier reading and use, many of the purely technical results and theorems are given separately from the main body of the text. The presentation is intended for graduate students in applied mathematics, engineering and physical sciences who have a basic knowledge of partial differential equations.

Book Approximate Solution of Initial Value Problems for Ordinary Differential Equations by Boundary Value Techniques

Download or read book Approximate Solution of Initial Value Problems for Ordinary Differential Equations by Boundary Value Techniques written by Donald Greenspan and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Initial value problems are studied numerically by means of two distinctly different types of boundary value techniques. The problems treated are those for which either asymptotic estimates or results about the periodicity of solutions are available. Nontrivial examples which contain singularities and/or nonlinearities are discussed. Also, an example is provided for which initial value techniques diverge while boundary value techniques yield accurate approximations. (Author).

Book Numerical Solution Of Ordinary And Partial Differential Equations The 3rd Edition

Download or read book Numerical Solution Of Ordinary And Partial Differential Equations The 3rd Edition written by Granville Sewell and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2014-12-16 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents methods for the computational solution of differential equations, both ordinary and partial, time-dependent and steady-state. Finite difference methods are introduced and analyzed in the first four chapters, and finite element methods are studied in chapter five. A very general-purpose and widely-used finite element program, PDE2D, which implements many of the methods studied in the earlier chapters, is presented and documented in Appendix A.The book contains the relevant theory and error analysis for most of the methods studied, but also emphasizes the practical aspects involved in implementing the methods. Students using this book will actually see and write programs (FORTRAN or MATLAB) for solving ordinary and partial differential equations, using both finite differences and finite elements. In addition, they will be able to solve very difficult partial differential equations using the software PDE2D, presented in Appendix A. PDE2D solves very general steady-state, time-dependent and eigenvalue PDE systems, in 1D intervals, general 2D regions, and a wide range of simple 3D regions. The Windows version of PDE2D comes free with every purchase of this book.
