Before you open your wallet, check out Bootstrap's official site and give it a go. What you will get from this book This book will guide you in transforming a simple HTML page into a responsive one. It will demonstrate how to use Bootstrap's grid system to create a multi-column layout. It will also guide you in creating a navigation bar, different types of menus (with or without dropdowns), buttons, icons, modal and tables. The book will also cover forms and form validations, where you will create a Sign Up page with some validation procedures to examine the data entered and display a warning when appropriate. Needless to say, this book will be incomplete without a lesson on customizing Bootstrap to fit your own style. The book will cover light customization that will illustrate how you can change fonts, colors and background images to make the page your own. Light customization however is good only for minimal changes in the design. To tweak the design further, you will be better off using LESS. Therefore one chapter will be dedicated to demonstrate the customization using LESS. Towards the end of the book, we will throw in some more Bootstrap components that can increase your site's appeal. You will learn about Carousel, Affix, Scrollspy, Tooltip, Popover, Collapse and Progress Bar. Not only you will learn how to display them, you will also utilize some of the controls to make them work. In some cases there is no neat formula for calculating standard error analytically. Although techniques for variance estimation and confidence intervals exist for complex survey data, they often are cumbersome to implement or do not extend to complex design. Various methods for variance estimation in complex survey data, where the sampling is done without replacement, have been developed so far. These methods include the customary linearization (or taylor) method and resampling method based on Jackknife and balanced repeated replication. These methods all have certain drawbacks, however; the linearization method requires theoritical calculation and subsequent programming of derivatives, which make it cumbersome to implement. It would be desirable to have resampling methods that reuse the existing estimation system repeatedly, using computing power to avoid theoretical work and that can be applied to complex survey design. Book excerpt: This open access book provides new findings on and insights into trends and patterns in residential segregation between racial and ethnic groups in the United States. It draws on new methods that make it possible to investigate segregation involving small groups and segregation patterns in nonmetropolitan communities with greater accuracy and clarity than has previously been possible. As one example, the authors are able to track residential segregation patterns across a wide selection of nonmetropolitan communities where Black, Latino, and Asian populations are small but can still potentially experience segregation. The authors also track White-Latino segregation from its inception when Latino households first arrived in non-negligible numbers in new destination communities and then document how segregation changes over time as the Latino population grows over time to become larger and more established. Finally, this work shows how segregation of Latino and Asian households is fundamentally different from that of Black households based on the much greater role that cultural and socioeconomic characteristics play in shaping White-Latino and White-Asian segregation in comparison to White-Black segregation.
