Book Topics in Mathematical Analysis and Differential Geometry

Download or read book Topics in Mathematical Analysis and Differential Geometry written by Nicolas K. Laos and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1998 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book studies the interplay between mathematical analysis and differential geometry as well as the foundations of these two fields. The development of a unified approach to topological vector spaces, differential geometry and algebraic and differential topology of function manifolds led to the broad expansion of global analysis. This book serves as a self-contained reference on both the prerequisites for further study and the recent research results which have played a decisive role in the advancement of global analysis.

Download or read book The Wonder of Quantum Spin written by Indubala I. Satija and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2024-07-09 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Wonder of Quantum Spin is a confection of the history and the science of quantum spin sprinkled with quotations and excerpts from pioneers who lived and breathed science. The book unfolds two centuries of the golden era in mathematics and physics, where first glimpses of spin appeared nearly 200 years ago in the mathematics of rotations. In these studies, spinors emerged as a new entity that changes sign after a 360 degree rotation, reminiscent of the Mobius geometry. A century later, quantum spins described by spinors was discovered in physics in atomic spectra. This led to the discovery of antimatter and raised the possibility of parity violation. It gave the first warning that protons and neutrons are not elementary. As we approach the centennial of the discovery, the spin mystique prevails as we have no clue of what exactly is spinning. Nevertheless, the theoretical framework underlying the spin determines why we exist, and explains the mysteries of the 3000-year-old phenomenon of magnetism. This book showcases MRI - one of the most important medical advances of the 20th century with a tantalizing history of the application of nuclear spin to humanity. It narrates fascinating spin tales of the precision measurements of electron and muon spin magnetic moments displaying a mindboggling confrontation between theory and experiment that remains our ambassador to quantum physics.

  • Pages : 479 pages

Download or read book Journey through Mathematics written by Enrique A. González-Velasco and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-08-08 with total page 479 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an accessible and in-depth look at some of the most important episodes of two thousand years of mathematical history. Beginning with trigonometry and moving on through logarithms, complex numbers, infinite series, and calculus, this book profiles some of the lesser known but crucial contributors to modern day mathematics. It is unique in its use of primary sources as well as its accessibility; a knowledge of first-year calculus is the only prerequisite. But undergraduate and graduate students alike will appreciate this glimpse into the fascinating process of mathematical creation. The history of math is an intercontinental journey, and this book showcases brilliant mathematicians from Greece, Egypt, and India, as well as Europe and the Islamic world. Several of the primary sources have never before been translated into English. Their interpretation is thorough and readable, and offers an excellent background for teachers of high school mathematics as well as anyone interested in the history of math.

Book Gateway to Complex Analysis

Download or read book Gateway to Complex Analysis written by RAJ SHREE DHAR and published by Mohini publications . This book was released on 2014-01-01 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gateway to Complex Analysis is complex analysis for the beginners. Its aim is to introduce the knowledge of complex analysis, a powerful tool, to those who have no prior knowledge of this subject. The present book starts with the history and the applications of the complex analysis and reaching to classical Nevanlinna theory which occupies the central place in complex analysis and ending with the application of Nevanlinna theory in Difference operators. The concepts are presented in an informal and conceptual style rather than in conventional definition or proof format. The author invites suggestions which could be considered for the improvement of the subsequent editions of this work. Complex analysis is an extremely useful and beautiful part of mathematics and forms the basis of many techniques employed in many branches of mathematics and physics. We have provided the notions of derivatives and integrals, familiar from calculus, to the case of complex functions of a complex variable.

Book IUTAM Symposium on Statistical Energy Analysis

Download or read book IUTAM Symposium on Statistical Energy Analysis written by F.J. Fahy and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1998-12-31 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a record of the proceedings of the Symposium on Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA) held at the University of Southampton in July 1997 which was held under the auspices of the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanic~. Theoretical SEA is form of modelling the vibrational and acoustical behaviour of complex mechanical systems which has undergone a long period of gestation before recent maturation into a widely used engineering design and analysis tool which is supported by a rapidly growing supply of commercial software. SEA also provides a framework for associated experimental measurement procedures, data analysis and interpretation. Under the guidance of the members of a distinguished International Scientific Committee, participants were individually invited from the broad spectrum of 'SEAfarers', including academics, consultants, industrial engineers, software developers and research students. The Symposium aimed to reflect the balance of world-wide activity in SEA, although some eminent members of the SEA community were, sadly, unable to attend. In particular, Professor Richard Lyon and Dr Gideon Maidanik, two of the principal originators of SEA, were sorely missed. This publication contains copies of all the papers presented to the Symposium together with a summary of the associated discussions which contains valuable comments upon the contents of the formal papers together with the views of participants on some fundamental issues which remain to be resolved.
