Book Sober Reflections

Download or read book Sober Reflections written by Iorshagher Ikyereve and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-02-25 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sober Reflections is a collection of 83 poems. It is divided into three phases: Episode I (1993 1999). This section has 37 poems. Episode II (2000 2006) has 32 poems, while Episode III (2007 2008) has 14 poems. Each of these episodes is an account or a description of a phase in time, an event, a situation or period of time in the poets experience in life that is important or interesting in some way which the poet wishes to communicate to his readership. As the title of the anthology implies, it is a poets reflection on experiences over periods of time or happenstances of life. In Sober Reflections, there is a unique feature that cuts across the whole poems and which holds the reader spell bound - the poets use of simple diction, which enhances good understanding and motivates the reader to read onto the end of each poem and the anthology at large. His poetic diction which includes words, phrases, length and complexity of sentences, or choice of words are not abstract; not far-fetched or bookish. They are current in the ordinary conversation of the time. His deliberate use of simple words, features, analogies and images drive home his messages more concretely. The background of these poems and the subject of creativity are quite local and familiar his childhood experience, village life, River Benue, Africa, etc., even help drive home his message more pointedly as opposed to abstract settings. Poems that deal with historical times and the poets emotions such as; When I was a boy; Dookenger; I need you; I am in love, and a host of others, are very local and familiar. Natural imageries employed are quite apt and make for easy understanding of the poems.

[...] Indeed, one of the key stumbling blocks to progress in the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) talks has been the reluctance of the U. S. to negotiate on agriculture, on the grounds that this negotiation really needs to occur at the WTO level. [...] The common problem with such commitments is expressed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP, 2003) as the loss of policy space, or the limitation on the ability of governments to regulate in the public interest. Book Daily Reflections

Download or read book Daily Reflections written by A a and published by . This book was released on 2017-07-27 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book of reflections by A.A. members for A.A. members. It was first published in 1990 to fulfill a long-felt need within the Fellowship for a collection of reflections that moves through the calendar year--one day at a time. Each page contains a reflection on a quotation from A.A. Conference-approved literature, such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, As Bill Sees It and other books. These reflections were submitted by members of the A.A. Fellowship who were not professional writers, nor did they speak for A.A. but only for themselves, from their own experiences in sobriety. Thus the book offers sharing, day by day, from a broad cross section of members, which focuses on the Three Legacies of Alcoholics Anonymous: Recovery, Unity and Service. Daily Reflections has proved to be a popular book that aids individuals in their practice of daily meditation and provides inspiration to group discussions even as it presents an introduction for some to A.A. literature as a whole.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is more than just daily meditation book—this is a book of Twelve Step quotes and daily reflections that come right from the meeting rooms of recovery. These are the ‘Aha' moments shared by people in the program, like: "Humility is not thinking less about yourself, but rather thinking about yourself less." Each timeless piece of practical recovery wisdom like this is followed by a three-paragraph reflection of "What it was like, what happened, and what it's like now." The most loved recovery quotes, across our Twelve Step programs are here: "There are no victims, only volunteers—you always have a choice," and they instantly offer the perspective we need to keep growing along spiritual lines. Fill your spiritual toolkit with your favorite quotes, "Once you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change," and see why these unique quotes resonate deeply with members—because they come directly from the meeting rooms of recovery. These quotes—by newcomers as well as old timers—offer people in recovery the experience, strength, and hope, they need, just when they need it: one day at a time. This book will remind you that "It is what it is, but it will become what you make it." The 365 Twelve Step Quotes collected here are the ones we hear in meetings, the quotes and sayings that offer us instant relief and revelation—the ones we wish we had written down and saved. Now you have them all at your fingertips. Quotes like, "We go to meetings for relief; but we work the Steps for recovery," and "Half measures do avail us something—it's just the half we don't want," and "When I say NO to you I'm saying YES to me," and hundreds of others help us all in the Fellowship both develop our practice of daily meditation and deepen our experience in the program. The Wisdom of the Rooms aids in our individual practice of recovery as well as provides inspiration for group discussions, reminding us all that "I'll never be all right, until it's all right, right now." Other Wisdom examples include quotes such as: "Instead of telling God how big your fears are, start telling your fears how big your God is." "The most spiritual thing you can do today is to help someone else." "Wisdom is the knowledge you learn after you know it all." "Let go of your old ideas, even the good ones." "When you own your part, you own your power." "Anger is one letter away from danger." And hundreds more…

Book excerpt: In this upbeat "reset" guide from the author of Sober Curious, a leading voice in the new sobriety movement walks through 100 days of discovering the joys of an alcohol-free lifestyle. Ruby Warrington's 2019 book Sober Curious was an illuminating conversation starter that asked you to consider, "Would life be better without alcohol?" thus sparking a global wellness trend of "curiosity" on how to gain one's genuine confidence and happiness without the crutch of alcohol. In The Sober Curious Reset, Rubygoes a step further by inviting you into a 100-day process of radically rethinking your drinking. Each "day" features observations, exercises, and insights, offering a more profound process of self-discovery than common month-long programs like Dry January or Sober September. The Sober Curious Reset is not about preaching total abstinence -- rather, it's about empowering you to make the right drinking choices, whatever this may look like for you. Book excerpt: Would life be better without alcohol? It’s the nagging question more and more of us are finding harder to ignore, whether we have a “problem” with alcohol or not. After all, we yoga. We green juice. We meditate. We self-care. And yet, come the end of a long work day, the start of a weekend, an awkward social situation, we drink. One glass of wine turns into two turns into a bottle. In the face of how we care for ourselves otherwise, it’s hard to avoid how alcohol really makes us feel… terrible. How different would our lives be if we stopped drinking on autopilot? If we stopped drinking altogether? Really different, it turns out. Really better. Frank, funny, and always judgment free, Sober Curious is a bold guide to choosing to live hangover-free, from Ruby Warrington, one of the leading voices of the new sobriety movement. Drawing on research, expert interviews, and personal narrative, Sober Curious is a radical take down of the myths that keep so many of us drinking. Inspiring, timely, and blame free, Sober Curious is both conversation starter and handbook—essential reading that empowers readers to transform their relationship with alcohol, so we can lead our most fulfilling lives.

Book The First 30 Days to Serenity

Download or read book The First 30 Days to Serenity written by Super Star and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inspiring, dynamic and thought provoking read about Super Star's journey through addition and into recovery! This is a great read for anyone interested in gaining insight into addiction for the one with an addiction, for the family or loved ones, for anyone who would like to educate themselves about addiction from the perspective of one walking along the path. For the addict, the first 30 days are a rollercoaster of despair, cravings and emotions that addicts have either never had to deal with or have previously chosen to ignore. Maintaining sobriety during this time is often on a day-to-day, hour-by-hour, or second-to-second basis. To find success with sobriety, a person needs to have tools to deal with life from a new and unique perspective. As the relapse statistics indicate, it can be very scary as well as overwhelming to stay sober during this time of recovery. But what about the friends or family member of the addict? The ones that are watching their loved one struggle with the disease. How are they feeling? What is healthy for them to do or not do? How should they handle the difficult situations that arise? This book provides insight for the family member or loved one into the inner thoughts of an addict; both during active addiction and in early recovery. This is an opportunity to better understand that addiction isn't just about using the drug; it's about so much more. Addiction is a "thinking disease" and this book appropriately exposes how stinkin' thinkin' is at the core of every addiction! While there are many successful books on the market about addiction, The First 30 Days to Serenity: The Essential Guide to Staying Sober is the first actual day-by-day account of staying sober through the first 30 days of recovery, including the thoughts, feelings, conversations, events, stress, tears, family friction, despair and drama of each of those 30 days from the lens of an addict. The story chronicles rock bottom experiences, daily journals from my first 30 days in recovery followed by a stinkin' thinkin' and sober thinkin' reflection one year later. The reflections are important because they allow the reader to witness the amount of personal growth that can happen during the first year of sobriety when someone works a recovery program. The reflections identify when the thinking was improper and dangerous, which we call "Stinkin' thinkin'," and when they were healthy and useful, which we call "Sober thinkin'." This book is a tool to answering such questions as, "Should I be feeling this way on day 1?" "Am I crazy for thinking such a thought on day 18?" "How should I handle this situation on day 29?" The reader's experiences may not be the same as mine were, but there will be similarities that will allow an opportunity to gain insight through another's story. This book lets readers know that what they are going through or a loved one is going through are very much part of the recovery process. The experiences shared will allow the reader a deeper understanding into the thought process associated with addiction providing opportunities to gain insight into how to handle situations in a way that support recovery or support someone else in early recovery. By giving the reader real-life scenarios to associate with from someone who has been there, it shows that they too can find success in sobriety and be whoever they've always wanted to beeven a Rock Star or Super Star. This book was written for anyone who thinks it might be worth getting high just one more time or who thinks life could not get any worse from using. I am here to tell them through my stories that it CAN and it WILL. The road to SERENITY through SOBRIETY starts right now!
