Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While there are numerous books describing modern wireless communication systems that contain overviews of radio propagation and radio channel modelling, there are none that contain detailed information on the design, implementation and calibration of radio channel measurement equipment, the planning of experiments and the in depth analysis of measured data. The book would begin with an explanation of the fundamentals of radio wave propagation and progress through a series of topics, including the measurement of radio channel characteristics, radio channel sounders, measurement strategies, data analysis techniques and radio channel modelling. Application of results for the prediction of achievable digital link performance would be discussed with examples pertinent to single carrier, multi-carrier and spread spectrum radio links. This work would address specifics of communications in various different frequency bands for both long range and short range fixed and mobile radio links.

Book Fading Channel Characterization and Modeling

Download or read book Fading Channel Characterization and Modeling written by Chau Vo and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multipath fading is one of the significant factors that affect the performance of a wireless communications link. Theoretical results exist for calculating link performance in the presence of a fading channel for some modulation schemes and some types of fading. In other cases, link performance must be evaluated by simulation. Mathworks' Simulink is one tool used for these simulations. Mathworks provides pre-constructed blocks for both Rician and Rayleigh fading which accept parameters defining these fading models. The proper use of these blocks to include the parameters that define fading channels has been described. These blocks make it easy to model complex fading systems. Simulation results for link performance obtained using these channel-modeling blocks in BPSK and BFSK systems correspond closely to the theoretical results. The work presented here should be of interest to others studying wireless communications.

Book excerpt: This book delves into the fundamental characteristics, measurement techniques, modeling methods, and theories of wireless channels in mobile scenarios. Unlike wired communication systems, which are more predictable, wireless communication systems are significantly affected by radio propagation and wireless channels. By investigating the mechanisms of wireless channels and measurement techniques, this book aims to better understand wireless communication systems in order to optimize the quality and design of wireless communications. The title covers key topics in the field, including basic theory of radio wave propagation and non-stationary channels, theory and method of time-varying channel measurement, measurement case analysis, wireless channel modeling theory and parameter extraction method, rail traffic channel measurement and modeling, and dynamic modeling and simulation method of time-varying channels. This book is suitable for researchers and students interested in radio wave propagation, wireless channels and mobile communication systems. It can also serve as a useful guide for technical professionals who have a background in mobile communication technology.

Book A Simulator for Time varying Multipath Fading Channels

Download or read book A Simulator for Time varying Multipath Fading Channels written by Xiangming Kong and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multipath fading is a common phenomenon in signal transmission. Understanding this phenomenon is very important in many applications such as in the study of optimal detectors. To acquire better knowledge of the channel behavior, a channel simulator is needed. Previous channel simulators are limited in their use due to the fact that they are tailored to certain kinds of channels. In this research, a channel simulator appropriate for arbitrary spread-spectrum waveforms transmitted over arbitrary time-varying, frequency-selective Rayleigh fading channels is developed and implemented. Both Doppler (or time) diversity and delay (or frequency) diversity are considered in the model. The channel is assumed to be a time-varying Gaussian channel that obeys the wide-sense stationary, uncorrelated scattering assumptions. The scattering function of the channel determines channel characteristics. The model developed consists of multiple Doppler-shifted branches of tap-delay lines. No assumption is made regarding the independence of the channel taps. Rather, the correlation structure of the taps predicted by the scattering function is computed and utilized. Examples of simulation results for different types of channels are presented and discussed to demonstrate the validity of the simulator.

Book A Study of Rayleigh Fading Channel Models

Download or read book A Study of Rayleigh Fading Channel Models written by Mahdin Mahboob and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-07 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These days, computer simulation is increasingly being used for design and performance evaluation of communication systems. When simulating a mobile wireless channel for such systems, it is usually assumed that the fading process is a random variate with Rayleigh distribution. In this paper, we have tried to understand Rayleigh Fading (which best describes the scenario inan urban or macrocell environment) better by comparing different models and observing the changes that are caused by varying different parameters. At present, there are a number of methods to generate the Rayleigh fadingprocess, some of them quite recently proposed. Due to the use of different Rayleigh fading generators, different simulations of the same communication system yield different results. Two methods, viz., the Jakes method and the Dent(Modified Jakes) method have been studied, simulated and compared based on the Rayleigh fading process properties. Various communication systems have been simulated using the Rayleigh fading generators and the differences in theresults, if any, have been analyzed. It was seen that the Dent method is usually seen to better describe a Rayleigh fading process.
