Download or read book On God s Payroll written by Arno W. Schroeder and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2024-09-12 with total page 602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On God's Payroll: From the Depression Era Prairies of South Dakota to the WWII Islands of the South Pacific and Back is the compilation of over two hundred handwritten personal stories of the unique and full life of Arno W. Schroeder. Arno's life, told through his own words, reflects his deep personal faith in God, formative years far different than those experienced by today's youth, and a life filled with unique experiences, including those of a twenty-year-old Marine fighting and surviving the frontline battles of Okinawa during WWII. Taken individually as they were written, the topics of the stories are broad and wide-ranging--from historical, informative, and humorous to serious, silly, and reflective. But assembled as a collection, the individual stories become a book of the history of the Great Depression; the crazy antics of a restless, overactive young farm lad (who said of himself, "...when I think of all the silly, dumb, stupid, crazy, unexpected and unusual things I always seemed to be doing, maybe I was all the entertainment my family could handle"); the lifelong impact war has on those that have fought to defend America's freedoms; and the vastly different life experiences between individuals of the Greatest Generation and subsequent generations, just to name a few.
Download or read book Tithing After the Cross written by David a. Croteau and published by Energion Publications. This book was released on 2013-07-03 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some in the church find it very difficult to talk about money, but it's a subject that cannot be avoided. The church needs money to continue to function. Missionaries need money to carry the gospel. As a result, however reluctant we are to talk about it, we have to do so. And when we do so, we often generate more confusion and resentment than cash. Some churches require that members be tithers before they can take positions of leadership. This in turn can result in a sort of spying by one believer on another. How much do we each earn? Is our giving equal to 10% of our income? On the other hand there are those who discount tithing, and consider themselves tithers because they give two or three percent of their income. They may say that they "tithe" 3% of their income. But what exactly does the Bible teach about tithing and how does that apply to us today? Is there a way for us to become grace-filled givers? Can stewardship, giving, and financing the work of building the kingdom become a joy rather than a duty or a source of dissension? David Croteau has written at length on this topic before. In this volume of the Areopagus Critical Christian Issues series, he undertakes a brief examination of tithing, stewardship, and giving. He starts by asking just what the Israelites were called on to give by the scriptures. He then follows through the various arguments in favor of tithing as a law applicable to Christians and shows how these arguments fail. Finally, he discusses a basis for gracious, joyful giving as God directs each of us. In just 96 pages (including all the front matter) you'll find your understanding of Christian stewardship changed. You won't find here a license for apathy or selfishness. Instead, you'll find a challenge to discover and do God's will in your finances as in every other area of your life.

Download or read book God s Good Economy written by Andrew Hartropp and published by Inter-Varsity Press. This book was released on 2019-08-15 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘The earth is the Lord’s’ (Ps.24:1). God states that He is the rightful owner of the earth and everything in it. God wants people to enjoy material things – but God must be the centre of our lives. Christ’s radical call to his followers includes the call to let him drive our economic and business life. This means letting God’s justice rule all our economic relationships: treating people rightly; a constant seeking of justice for, especially, the poor and needy; working so that all participate in God’s blessings, including material blessings. In Part 1, Andrew Hartropp looks at how Christ’s followers are to do justice in our economic relationships: as individuals, as households, in the workplace and as church communities. Then, moving outward (in concentric circles), Part 2 shows how Jesus’s disciples can do justice in and through secular institutions, including companies and firms, banks and other financial institutions, then government institutions, and then in the international/global context. The epilogue is on the glorious vision of God’s everlasting kingdom, which both drives us and also keeps our efforts now in proper perspective.
Download or read book Apostasy written by Jeff Kluttz and published by Jeff Kluttz. This book was released on 2012-01-06 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Apostasy is creeping into the church from televisions, books and star-personality tours of rich and blasphemous self-proclaimed prophets of God.; many of whom are the most famous pastors and teachers in the U.S. These counterfeit shepherds teach that faith is a material substance more powerful than God, accessible to all men, and capable of creating anything man's heart can desire by the mere utterance of faith-filled-words. This doctrine has leached into all areas of the theological systems of what are known as "Word of Faith" churches. Virtually every major area of systematic theology in this movement has been taken captive by the repercussions of this primordial error. In this heresy, God is limited. Man is unlimited. Satan fills a necessary role in atonement for sin. Health, wealth, power and all means of temptation are heralded as virtues of the faith while millions empty their bank accounts for the promise of such ambition. Preying on the poor and desperate, this movement is systematically fulfilling biblical prophesies concerning a latter-day apostasy within Christendom.

Book excerpt: On the day when our lives are reviewed, God will not request a recommendation from your reverend. He will look you in the eye and ask you, “What did you do?” It is the duty of Christians to paint a picture of Jesus by our actions. This cannot be done effectively from the current church model. Not everyone that loves God is interested in attending church. I Am Church: Converting Passion into Praise discusses worship and growth and is focused on your passions and talents, not just the activity of one day. This book suggests building a community that will support the conversion of passion into praise. Do I need to go to church to have a connection with God? How can you be a church every day? How can you expand your influence? How can you show the world Jesus?

Supernatural Manifestations in the Church contains exhilarating, real-life experiences in accessing the extraordinary working and moving of the Holy Spirit. In Supernatural Manifestations in the Church, you will receive answers to the following questions: How can you access the supernatural in your own devotional life? How can you know you are not manifesting demons? What are these strange utterances all about? Will I need years of counseling to get free? Is there a special tongue for self-deliverance? If Jesus took care of the Devil, then what is this all about? We have relegated to the specialist what every believer has access to. It is time to deal with the Devil.

Download or read book Ghetto Religiosity III written by Khalil Amani and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2003-01-15 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Khalil Amani has done it again! With his third installment of the Ghetto Religiosity series, Amani brings it home like fish & grits! He has done to religion what your mama does in the kitchen-Put his foot all up in it! Of great interest is Amani's critique and analysis of his former teacher, Yahweh Ben Yahweh. Amani cogently deconstructs Yahweh theology with the precision of a neurosurgeon, giving us a detailed account of Yahweh teachings, which have been exposed as plagiarisms from the Nation of Islam among others. Perhaps most controversial is Amani's scathing and blistering attack on 9/11 and our religious and secular perceptions/ideas about why this tragedy occurred. Amani takes exception to and rejects the pseudo-religiosity of 9/11. In his usual hard-core fashion, Amani puts God's business on front-street and asks the critical questions about God's whereabouts in our time of need. This book is not for the faint of heart! Truths Hurt

Download or read book Beauty from Ashes written by Kristen Paris and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2020-12-14 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life is variable, messy, and complicated. A single instant can propel us from joyful heights to seemingly endless tunnels of darkness, while between the milestones, time often drags at the pace of a snail on depressants, weighing us down in our inevitable march toward earthly life’s end. But in every moment, setting, and circumstance, God is present. Seen or unseen, His hand works, His eyes watch, and His heart beats a faithful cadence of commitment to those made to bear His image. While doctrinal answers truthfully respond to our mind’s questions, they sometimes miss making the ten-inch journey to the heart where our deeper wondering and need lives. The reflections in Beauty from Ashes were born outside of church walls, where feet meet pavement—where heart, mind, and body seek beauty, truth, and fulfillment in the daily reality of the world surrounding our Monday through Saturday lives. These musings on the incomprehensible God—ponderings on loss, joy, dissatisfaction, growth, need, failure, and strength—are variable and messy, as is life. But in every page, as in every moment, God is there, and that reality is the truth in which fulfilled, abundant life takes root. May the words of this book be herbs to flavor your experience of marinating in God’s love.
