Book On Fully Developed Channel Flows

Download or read book On Fully Developed Channel Flows written by Stephen H. Maslen and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Limitations on fully developed laminar flows due to compressibility and property variations are examined. The cases, for liquids and for gases, wherein such motions are "exact" are determined and solutions are given. For more general conditions, not permitting an exact fully developed flow, limitations are set. Two cases arise depending on the size of the temperature variation across the channel. Both the forced and free flow are solved for the case of large temperature variation. Finally, there are described briefly some circumstances under which streamwise variations of velocity occur. The case where the velocity varies inversely with the square root of the distance is solved.

Book A Direct Numerical Simulation of Fully Developed Turbulent Channel Flow with Passive Heat Transfer

Download or read book A Direct Numerical Simulation of Fully Developed Turbulent Channel Flow with Passive Heat Transfer written by Stephen Lincoln Lyons and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 670 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A direct numerical simulation of a fully developed turbulent channel flow with passive heat transfer is performed. The time-dependent three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations and advection-diffusion equation are solved numerically using a pseudospectral technique with 1,064,960 grid points in physical space (128 x 65 x 128 in x, y, z). No subgrid scale model is employed since all essential turbulence scales are resolved. The Reynolds number is 2262, based on the half channel height and bulk velocity, and the Prandtl number is 1. The Nusselt number is predicted to be 25.36. A large number of one-point turbulence statistics are computed and compared with existing experimental data taken at similar Reynolds and Nusselt numbers. Agreement with the existing experimental data is excellent except for some discrepancies in the near wall region, y$sp+$ $

Book Fully Developed Turbulent Supersonic Flow in Rectangular Channels

Download or read book Fully Developed Turbulent Supersonic Flow in Rectangular Channels written by J. Kenneth Richmond and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to assess properly the gas dynamic aspects of MHD channel flow it is necessary to obtain details of the flow conditions before fields are applied. In a channel with an entrance cross section of one cm square, with lengths up to 20 cm, at a Mach number of about 1.5 and at static pressures approaching one atm, a turbulent boundary layer fills the channel, and fully developed pipe flow turbulence prevails. A simple one-dimensional theory is presented for this case, relating stagnation pressure change to area change, heat transfer and friction factor. Experiments are described in which a supersonic flow of heated or cold argon was passed into the channel, and the flow rate and temperature varied to cover a range of Reynolds numbers (based on channel width) from 5,000 to 500,000. Total pressure and total temperature changes are correlated with the theory to indicate the progress of boundary layer development and the parameters affecting the friction and heat transfer coefficients.
