Download or read book Structural Sensitivity Analysis and Optimization 1 written by Kyung K. Choi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-12-30 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extensive numerical methods for computing design sensitivity are included in the text for practical application and software development. The numerical method allows integration of CAD-FEA-DSA software tools, so that design optimization can be carried out using CAD geometric models instead of FEA models. This capability allows integration of CAD-CAE-CAM so that optimized designs can be manufactured effectively.

This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 1201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: G.I.N. Rozvany ASI Director, Professor of Structural Design, FB 10, Essen University, Essen, Germany Structural optimization deals with the optimal design of all systems that consist, at least partially, of solids and are subject to stresses and deformations. This inte grated discipline plays an increasingly important role in all branches of technology, including aerospace, structural, mechanical, civil and chemical engineering as well as energy generation and building technology. In fact, the design of most man made objects, ranging from space-ships and long-span bridges to tennis rackets and artificial organs, can be improved considerably if human intuition is enhanced by means of computer-aided, systematic decisions. In analysing highly complex structural systems in practice, discretization is un avoidable because closed-form analytical solutions are only available for relatively simple, idealized problems. To keep discretization errors to a minimum, it is de sirable to use a relatively large number of elements. Modern computer technology enables us to analyse systems with many thousand degrees of freedom. In the optimization of structural systems, however, most currently available methods are restricted to at most a few hundred variables or a few hundred active constraints.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally developed for mechanical and aeronautical engineering, structural optimization is not so easily applied to civil and architectural engineering, as structures in these fields are not mass products, but more often unique structures planned in accordance with specific design requirements. The shape and geometry of such structures are determ

Download or read book Structural Dynamic Systems Computational Techniques and Optimization written by Cornelius T. Leondes and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1999-02-22 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Formulation of an optimal dynamic structural system design problem requires identification of design variables that describe the structural system, a cost function that needs to be minimized, and performance and safety constraints for the system. The formulation of the problem depends upon the type of application and objectives to be achieved, i.e., the shape, the sizing, or topology design problem. Specific design variable definition, cost of function and constraints are dictated by the application. This volume is a comprehensive treatment of the general methods involved in this broadly fundamental problem and provides essential techniques in specific but pervasive structural dynamic systems elements and their optimization.

Book excerpt: These proceedings contain the texts of 37 contributions presented at the International Conference on Engineering Optimization in an Industrial Environment, which took place on 3 - 4 September 1990 at the Karlsruhe Nuclear Hesearch Center, I~H Germany. The presentations consisted of oral and poster contributions arranged in five sessions: • Shape and layout optimization • Structural optimization with advanced materials • Optimal designs with special structural and material beha viour • Sensitivity analysis - Programme systems • Optimization with stability constraints - Special problems The editors wish to express their appreciation to all authors and invited speakers for their in teresting contributions. The proceedings cover a wide range of topics in structural optimization representing the present state of the art in the fields of research and in the industrial environment as well. The editors hope that this book will also contribute towards new ideas and concepts in a world of ever decreasing natural resources and ever increasing demands for lighter and yet stronger and safer technical components. I"inally, the editors wish to thank all colleagues who helped in the organisation of the conference, especially Mrs. E. Schroder anq Dr. K.llethge, as well as Mr. A. von lIagen and Mrs. E. Download or read book Analytic Methods for Design Practice written by Gyung-Jin Park and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-02-15 with total page 636 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the world of modern engineering, rigorous and definite design methodologies are needed. However, many parts of engineering design are performed in either an ad-hoc manner or based on the intuition of the engineer. This is the first book to look at both stages of the design process – conceptual design and detailed design – and detail design methodologies for every step of the design process. Case studies show how practical design problems can be solved with analytic design methods. This book is an excellent introduction to the subject. The book’s practical focus will make the book useful to practicing engineers as a practical handbook of design.
