Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis, we explore new techniques for robust, efficient, loop-free on-demand routing in Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs) using the same information (i.e., topology information, sequence numbers, etc.,) used in prior on-demand routing protocol proposals. We provide new insights into the robustness of protocols based on destination-sequence numbers when operating with node failures and loss of routing information, and present a new destination-sequence number framework that works correctly even with failure conditions. We also show how destination-sequence numbers can be manipulated as routing labels for improving performance, rather than being strictly treated as time-stamps. We present two different routing approaches that exploit the topology information that can be collected on-demand during the route request ood search. The first approach translates topology information into labels that are then stored at nodes in strict lexicographic ordering along any successor path to a destination. Loop-freedom is maintained by allowing nodes to only pick "smaller" labels. The second approach maintains a list of topology information that should not be trusted in-addition to the known path to a destination. Using the notion of trusted topology, nodes can always make routingWe conclude our research with a new on-demand routing technique that exploits the route request search process, which is an integral part of any on-demand routing protocol. Without requiring any additional mechanisms or information, we use the uniqueness of route requests to realize a on-demand routing framework. We, then, present extensions to the basic framework to improve performance using more information that can be collected during the flood search process.

Book Routing Strategies in Ad hoc Wireless Networks

Download or read book Routing Strategies in Ad hoc Wireless Networks written by Jyoti Raju and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ad-hoc wireless networks present a unique design problem for routing. Wireless networks suffer from low bandwidth due to high rates of interference and inherent limitations of the medium. Mobility also increases the bandwidth used for control packets. To conserve on precious bandwidth, routing protocols should generate as few updates as possible. In this dissertation, we propose distance vector solutions to ad-hoc routing because unlike existing routing solutions our solutions do not use sequence numbers and thus are not prone to inefficient or wrong behavior in the presence of node failures. First, we introduce ROAM, the first protocol to correctly tackle the "searching to infinity" problem found in on-demand routing protocols. ROAM can be used in networks with low rates of topology changes because it required reliable updates. Next, we describe two protocols DST (on-demand) and BEST (table-driven) for networks with high rates of topology change. Simulation experiments carried out in two different simulation packages show that these protocols perform an order of magnitude better than representative on-demand and table-driven routing solutions for ad-hoc networks. Finally, we introduce MDST, an on-demand protocol that extends the source tracing algorithm used in DST to create and maintain multiple paths in an ad-hoc wireless network. Multipath routing can be used in ad hoc networks to achieve greater resilience to route failures and better end-to-end delays. Multipath routing is also essential when using QoS metrics like delay in order to avoid route oscillation. We show that multiple paths that are node disjoint and loop free can be maintained with less overhead than DST. Further, these multiple paths decrease the delay of packet delivery and increase the throughput of the network.

Book Enhanced On Demand Multipath Routing for Wireless Networks

Download or read book Enhanced On Demand Multipath Routing for Wireless Networks written by Periyasamy Pitchaipillai and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2018-07-27 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ad-hoc On-demand Multipath Distance Vector (AOMDV) routing protocol is widely used in highly dynamic ad-hoc networks because of its generic features. The transmission of reliable energy efficient data is an emerging issue in AOMDV routing as the nodes are prone to link failures and route breaks in highly dynamic ad-hoc networks. In order to eliminate such problems, a novel node disjoint multipath routing protocol called Link Reliable Energy Efficient AOMDV (LR-EE-AOMDV), the extension of a well-known AOMDV, is proposed here to find multiple link reliable energy efficient paths between any source and destination pair for data transmission using metrics such as Path Length, Path-Link Quality Estimator (P-LQE) and a novel Path-Node Energy Estimator (P-NEE).

Book Traffic and QoS Management in Wireless Multimedia Networks

Download or read book Traffic and QoS Management in Wireless Multimedia Networks written by Yevgeni Koucheryavy and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-04-20 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current book provides a final report of activity performed by the COST 290 Action, ‘‘Traffic and QoS Management in Wireless Multimedia Networks,’’ which ran from March 10, 2004, until June 3, 2008. After an introduction to the COST framework and the Action’s survey time-frame and activities, the main part of the book addresses a number of technical issues, which are structured into several chapters. All those issues have been carefully investigated by the COST 290 community during the course of the project – the information presented in this book can be regarded as ultimate for each particular topic; every open research issue addressed in the book is described carefully, corresponding existing studies are analyzed and results achieved by the COST 290 community are presented and compared, and further research directions are defined and analyzed. Because the book covers a wide area of research addressing issues of modern wired and wireless networking at different layers, starting from the physical layer up to the application layer, it can be recommended to be used by researchers and students to obtain a comprehensive analysis on particular research topics including related areas, to obtain broad and ultimate referencing, and to be advised on current open issues. COST 290 is one of the Actions of the European COST Program. Founded in 1971, COST is an intergovernmental framework for European Cooperation in the field of Scientific and Technical Research, allowing the coordination of nationally funded research on a European level.
