Book Context free Languages And Primitive Words

Download or read book Context free Languages And Primitive Words written by Masami Ito and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2014-09-25 with total page 519 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A word is said to be primitive if it cannot be represented as any power of another word. It is a well-known conjecture that the set of all primitive words Q over a non-trivial alphabet is not context-free: this conjecture is still open. In this book, the authors deal with properties of primitive words over a non-primitive alphabet, the language consisting of all primitive words and related languages. Moreover, some decidable and undecidable problems with respect to the above languages are discussed as well. As another try, a search for a non-phrase structure grammar which generates Q is performed.

Download or read book Software Engineering 2 written by Dines Bjørner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-08-01 with total page 780 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The art, craft, discipline, logic, practice and science of developing large-scale software products needs a professional base. The textbooks in this three-volume set combine informal, engineeringly sound approaches with the rigor of formal, mathematics-based approaches. This volume covers the basic principles and techniques of specifying systems and languages. It deals with modelling the semiotics (pragmatics, semantics and syntax of systems and languages), modelling spatial and simple temporal phenomena, and such specialized topics as modularity (incl. UML class diagrams), Petri nets, live sequence charts, statecharts, and temporal logics, including the duration calculus. Finally, the book presents techniques for interpreter and compiler development of functional, imperative, modular and parallel programming languages. This book is targeted at late undergraduate to early graduate university students, and researchers of programming methodologies. Vol. 1 of this series is a prerequisite text.

Book Machines Computations and Universality

Download or read book Machines Computations and Universality written by Maurice Margenstern and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-06-29 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the ?rst part of the present volume of LNCS, the reader will ?nd the invited talks given at the MCU 2001 conference. In the second part, he/she will ?nd the contributions that were presented at the conference after selection. In both cases, papers are arranged in the alphabetical order of the authors. MCU 2001 is the third conference in theoretical computer science, Machines, computations and universality, formerly, Machines et calculs universels. Both previous conferences, MCU’95 and MCU’98, were organized by Maurice M- genstern in Paris and in Metz (France), respectively. From the very beginning, MCU conferences have been an international sci- ti?c event. For the third conference, in order to stress that aspect, it was decided to hold it outside France. Moldova was chosen thanks to the close cooperation between the present chairmen of MCU 2001. MCU 2001 also aims at high scienti?c standards. We hope that the present volume will convince the reader that the tradition of previous conferences have been upheld by this one. Cellular automata and molecular computing are well represented in this volume. And this is also the case for quantum computing, f- mal languages, and the theory of automata. MCU 2001 does not fail its tradition of providing our community with important results on Turing machines.

Book Formal Grammars in Linguistics and Psycholinguistics

Download or read book Formal Grammars in Linguistics and Psycholinguistics written by Willem J.M. Levelt and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2008-12-19 with total page 594 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost four decades have passed since Formal Grammars first appeared in 1974. At that time it was still possible to rather comprehensively review for (psycho)linguists the relevant literature on the theory of formal languages and automata, on their applications in linguistic theory and in the psychology of language. That is no longer feasible. In all three areas developments have been substantial, if not breathtaking. Nowadays, an interested linguist or psycholinguist opening any text on formal languages can no longer see the wood for the trees, as it is by no means evident which formal, mathematical tools are really required for natural language applications. An historical perspective can be helpful here. There are paths through the wood that have been beaten since decades; they can still provide useful orientation. The origins of these paths can be traced in the three volumes of Formal Grammars, brought together in the present re-edition. In a newly added postscript the author has sketched what has become, after all these years, of formal grammars in linguistics and psycholinguistics, or at least some of the core developments. This chapter may provide further motivation for the reader to make a trip back to some of the historical sources.

Book Handbook of Graph Grammars and Computing by Graph Transformation

Download or read book Handbook of Graph Grammars and Computing by Graph Transformation written by Hartmut Ehrig and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997 with total page 722 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Graph grammars originated in the late 60s, motivated by considerations about pattern recognition and compiler construction. Since then, the list of areas which have interacted with the development of graph grammars has grown quite impressively. Besides the aforementioned areas, it includes software specification and development, VLSI layout schemes, database design, modeling of concurrent systems, massively parallel computer architectures, logic programming, computer animation, developmental biology, music composition, visual languages, and many others. The area of graph grammars and graph transformations generalizes formal language theory based on strings and the theory of term rewriting based on trees. As a matter of fact, within the area of graph grammars, graph transformation is considered a fundamental computation paradigm where computation includes specification, programming, and implementation. Over the last three decades, graph grammars have developed at a steady pace into a theoretically attractive and important-for-applications research field. Volume 2 of the indispensable Handbook of Graph Grammars and Computing by Graph Transformations considers applications to functional languages, visual and object-oriented languages, software engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical process engineering, and images. It also presents implemented specification languages and tools, and structuring and modularization concepts for specification languages. The contributions have been written in a tutorial/survey style by the top experts in the corresponding areas. This volume is accompanied by a CD-Rom containing implementations of specification environments based on graphtransformation systems, and tools whose implementation is based on the use of graph transformation systems.
