Book On Automating Domain Connectivity for Overset Grids

Download or read book On Automating Domain Connectivity for Overset Grids written by National Aeronautics and Space Adm Nasa and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2018-12-29 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An alternative method for domain connectivity among systems of overset grids is presented. Reference uniform Cartesian systems of points are used to achieve highly efficient domain connectivity, and form the basis for a future fully automated system. The Cartesian systems are used to approximated body surfaces and to map the computational space of component grids. By exploiting the characteristics of Cartesian Systems, Chimera type hole-cutting and identification of donor elements for intergrid boundary points can be carried out very efficiently. The method is tested for a range of geometrically complex multiple-body overset grid systems. Chiu, Ing-Tsau NASA-CR-196113, NAS 1.26:196113, OMI-04-92-2 NAG2-783...

Book Domain Connectivity Among Systems of Overset Grids

Download or read book Domain Connectivity Among Systems of Overset Grids written by National Aeronautics and Space Adm Nasa and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2018-12-29 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This progress report describes research performed to achieve algorithmic improvements in the use of overset grids for the computation of unsteady flowfields about geometrically complex and moving component configurations. A hole-map computational method is detailed that reduces computational demand and corresponding demand on human resources. Results indicate that the method is both efficient and flexible for use in complex simulation cases. Tests were performed on shuttle orbiter/external tank, wing/store, and V-22 tilt-rotor configurations. The number of simulated points and the corresponding time on a SGI 4D-210 workstation are presented. Meakin, Robert L. NASA-CR-193390, NAS 1.26:193390 NCC2-783...

Book Handbook of Grid Generation

Download or read book Handbook of Grid Generation written by Joe F. Thompson and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1998-12-29 with total page 1136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Handbook of Grid Generation addresses the use of grids (meshes) in the numerical solutions of partial differential equations by finite elements, finite volume, finite differences, and boundary elements. Four parts divide the chapters: structured grids, unstructured girds, surface definition, and adaption/quality. An introduction to each section provides a roadmap through the material. This handbook covers: Fundamental concepts and approaches Grid generation process Essential mathematical elements from tensor analysis and differential geometry, particularly relevant to curves and surfaces Cells of any shape - Cartesian, structured curvilinear coordinates, unstructured tetrahedra, unstructured hexahedra, or various combinations Separate grids overlaid on one another, communicating data through interpolation Moving boundaries and internal interfaces in the field Resolving gradients and controlling solution error Grid generation codes, both commercial and freeware, as well as representative and illustrative grid configurations Handbook of Grid Generation contains 37 chapters as well as contributions from more than 100 experts from around the world, comprehensively evaluating this expanding field and providing a fundamental orientation for practitioners.

Book Automatic Hole cutting in Overset Grids Using the X rays Approach

Download or read book Automatic Hole cutting in Overset Grids Using the X rays Approach written by Noah Kim and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Overset grids resolve complicated geometries by creating high quality structured grids that are independently built for each component. This simplifies the process of grid generation, but domain connectivity must be performed so that adjacent grids share information. Currently available domain connectivity tools tend to be computationally expensive or require extensive user input. The X-rays approach is a robust and computationally efficient method, but it requires considerable user input and iteration. Shortcomings of the current X-rays method are explored to automate and improve the algorithm. Significant user time is saved by identifying and eliminating the manual bottlenecks of the X-rays approach. In addition, automation of the hole boundary adjustment helps to improve the accuracy of the solution. It is now possible to solve relative motion problems with significantly less user inputs, considerably reducing the design cycle time in engineering CFD analysis.

Book Applied Mathematics Modeling and Computer Simulation

Download or read book Applied Mathematics Modeling and Computer Simulation written by C.-H. Chen and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2024-01-19 with total page 1266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applied mathematics, modelling, and computer simulation are central to many aspects of engineering and computer science, and continue to be of intrinsic importance to the development of modern technologies. This book presents the proceedings of AMMCS 2023, the 3rd International Conference on Applied Mathematics, Modeling and Computer Simulation, held on 12 and 13 August 2023 in Wuhan, China. The conference provided an ideal opportunity for scholars and researchers to communicate important recent developments in their areas of specialization to their colleagues, and to scientists in related disciplines. More than 250 submissions were received for the conference, of which 133 were selected for presentation at the conference and inclusion here after a thorough peer-review process. These range from the theoretical and conceptual to strongly pragmatic papers addressing industrial best practice, and cover topics such as mathematical modeling and application; engineering applications and scientific computations; and the simulation of intelligent systems. The book explores practical experiences and enlightening ideas, and will be of interest to researchers, practitioners, and to all those working in the fields of applied mathematics, modeling and computer simulation.

Book Automatic Overset Grid Generation with Heuristic Feedback Control

Download or read book Automatic Overset Grid Generation with Heuristic Feedback Control written by Peter I. Robinson and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An advancing front grid generation system for structured Overset grids is presented which automatically modifies Overset structured surface grids and control lines until user-specified grid qualities are achieved. The system is demonstrated on two examples: the first refines a space shuttle fuselage control line until global truncation error is achieved; the second advances, from control lines, the space shuttle orbiter fuselage global truncation error is achieved; the second advances, from control lines, the space shuttle orbiter fuselage top and fuselage side surface grids until proper overlap is achieved. Surface grids are generated in minutes for complex geometries. The system is implemented as a heuristic feedback control (HFC) expert system which iteratively modifies the input specifications for Overset control line and surface grids. It is developed as an extension of modem control theory, production rules systems and subsumption architectures.
