Book Maximum Entropy and Bayesian Methods

Download or read book Maximum Entropy and Bayesian Methods written by P.F. Fougère and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume represents the proceedings of the Ninth Annual MaxEnt Workshop, held at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, on August 14-18, 1989. These annual meetings are devoted to the theory and practice of Bayesian Probability and the Maximum Entropy Formalism. The fields of application exemplified at MaxEnt '89 are as diverse as the foundations of probability theory and atmospheric carbon variations, the 1987 Supernova and fundamental quantum mechanics. Subjects include sea floor drug absorption in man, pressures, neutron scattering, plasma equilibrium, nuclear magnetic resonance, radar and astrophysical image reconstruction, mass spectrometry, generalized parameter estimation, delay estimation, pattern recognition, heave responses in underwater sound and many others. The first ten papers are on probability theory, and are grouped together beginning with the most abstract followed by those on applications. The tenth paper involves both Bayesian and MaxEnt methods and serves as a bridge to the remaining papers which are devoted to Maximum Entropy theory and practice. Once again, an attempt has been made to start with the more theoretical papers and to follow them with more and more practical applications. Papers number 29, 30 and 31, by Kesaven, Seth and Kapur, represent a somewhat different, perhaps even "unorthodox" viewpoint, and are included here even though the editor and, indeed many in the audience at Dartmouth, disagreed with their content. I feel that scientific disagreements are essential in any developing field, and often lead to a deeper understanding.

Book Minimum Error Entropy Classification

Download or read book Minimum Error Entropy Classification written by Joaquim P. Marques de Sá and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-07-25 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explains the minimum error entropy (MEE) concept applied to data classification machines. Theoretical results on the inner workings of the MEE concept, in its application to solving a variety of classification problems, are presented in the wider realm of risk functionals. Researchers and practitioners also find in the book a detailed presentation of practical data classifiers using MEE. These include multi‐layer perceptrons, recurrent neural networks, complexvalued neural networks, modular neural networks, and decision trees. A clustering algorithm using a MEE‐like concept is also presented. Examples, tests, evaluation experiments and comparison with similar machines using classic approaches, complement the descriptions.

Book Machine Learning in Computer Vision

Download or read book Machine Learning in Computer Vision written by Nicu Sebe and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-10-04 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this book is to address the use of several important machine learning techniques into computer vision applications. An innovative combination of computer vision and machine learning techniques has the promise of advancing the field of computer vision, which contributes to better understanding of complex real-world applications. The effective usage of machine learning technology in real-world computer vision problems requires understanding the domain of application, abstraction of a learning problem from a given computer vision task, and the selection of appropriate representations for the learnable (input) and learned (internal) entities of the system. In this book, we address all these important aspects from a new perspective: that the key element in the current computer revolution is the use of machine learning to capture the variations in visual appearance, rather than having the designer of the model accomplish this. As a bonus, models learned from large datasets are likely to be more robust and more realistic than the brittle all-design models.

Book Lectures on Soft Computing and Fuzzy Logic

Download or read book Lectures on Soft Computing and Fuzzy Logic written by Antonio Di Nola and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2001-07-31 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume collects selected papers arising from lectures delivered by the authors at the School on Fuzzy Logic and Soft Computing held during the years 1996/97/98/99 and sponsored by the Salerno University. The authors contributing to this volume agreed with editors to write down, to enlarge and, in many cases, to rethink their original lectures, in order to offer to readership, a more compact presentation of the proposed topics. The aim of the volume is to offer a picture, as a job in progress, of the effort that is coming in founding and developing soft computing's techniques. The volume contains papers aimed to report on recent results containing genuinely logical aspects of fuzzy logic. The topics treated in this area cover algebraic aspects of Lukasiewicz Logic, Fuzzy Logic as the logic of continuous t-norms, Intuitionistic Fuzzy Logic. Aspects of fuzzy logic based on similar ity relation are presented in connection with the problem of flexible querying in deductive database. Departing from fuzzy logic, some papers present re sults in Probability Logic treating computational aspects, results based on indishernability relation and a non commutative version of generalized effect algebras. Several strict applications of soft computing are presented in the book. Indeed we find applications ranging among pattern recognition, image and signal processing, evolutionary agents, fuzzy cellular networks, classi fication in fuzzy environments. The volume is then intended to serve as a reference work for foundational logico-algebraic aspect of Soft Computing and for concrete applications of soft computing technologies.

Book Advanced AI Methods for Plant Disease and Pest Recognition

Download or read book Advanced AI Methods for Plant Disease and Pest Recognition written by Jucheng Yang and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-06-06 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plant diseases and pests cause significant losses to farmers and threaten food security worldwide. Monitoring the growing conditions of crops and detecting plant diseases is critical for sustainable agriculture. Traditionally, crop inspection has been carried out by people with expert knowledge in the field. However, regarding any activity carried out by humans, this activity is prone to errors, leading to possible incorrect decisions. Innovation is, therefore, an essential fact of modern agriculture. In this context, deep learning has played a key role in solving complicated applications with increasing accuracy over time, and recent interest in this type of technology has prompted its potential application to address complex problems in agriculture, such as plant disease and pest recognition. Although substantial progress has been made in the area, several challenges still remain, especially those that limit systems to operate in real-world scenarios.
