Book Shaping Antenna Phase and Amplitude Distributions for Low Sidelobes

Download or read book Shaping Antenna Phase and Amplitude Distributions for Low Sidelobes written by Charles P. Burns and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many radar applications, extremely low antenna sidelobes can improve system performance. Current techniques utilize only the antenna amplitude distribution to produce lower sidelobes. This report presents results of an investigation of combined amplitude and phase tapering to produce lower sidelobes. Combinations of phase and amplitude distributions and the resulting far-field patterns were studied theoretically through computer analysis. Gaussian phase tapers with cosine and modified Taylor amplitude distributions were studied in detail. Experimental work included the construction of a dielectric lens for a horn antenna that significantly lowered the sidelobe level. Design information was compiled to demonstrate tradeoffs between amplitude tapering alone and combined phase and amplitude tapering. (Author).

Book Apertures

Download or read book Apertures written by R. C. Hansen and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microwave Scanning Antennas, Volume I: Apertures is a comprehensive account of phased arrays, multiple beam arrays, time domain and synthetic apertures, and adaptive antennas. Advances in continuous apertures and near field theory are discussed. Low noise and monopulse apertures, optical scanners, and large radomes are also covered, along with radio astronomy instruments and associated theory. Comprised of five chapters, this volume begins with an overview of aperture theory as well as aperture distributions and near field theory. The second and third chapters deal with mechanically steered and electronically scanned antennas, including monopulse antennas and optical scanners. The fourth chapter is devoted to radio astronomy instruments and techniques and encompasses both apertures and arrays, together with radio telescopes and antennas. The final chapter describes large radomes that are primarily used with aperture antennas. This book is intended for engineers who must understand narrow beam or high resolution antennas more deeply than from the system interfaces alone, and for undergraduate and graduate students in electronics who wish to complement their study of electromagnetics with the quantitative details of hardware applications.

Book Functional and Shape Data Analysis

Download or read book Functional and Shape Data Analysis written by Anuj Srivastava and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-03 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook for courses on function data analysis and shape data analysis describes how to define, compare, and mathematically represent shapes, with a focus on statistical modeling and inference. It is aimed at graduate students in analysis in statistics, engineering, applied mathematics, neuroscience, biology, bioinformatics, and other related areas. The interdisciplinary nature of the broad range of ideas covered—from introductory theory to algorithmic implementations and some statistical case studies—is meant to familiarize graduate students with an array of tools that are relevant in developing computational solutions for shape and related analyses. These tools, gleaned from geometry, algebra, statistics, and computational science, are traditionally scattered across different courses, departments, and disciplines; Functional and Shape Data Analysis offers a unified, comprehensive solution by integrating the registration problem into shape analysis, better preparing graduate students for handling future scientific challenges. Recently, a data-driven and application-oriented focus on shape analysis has been trending. This text offers a self-contained treatment of this new generation of methods in shape analysis of curves. Its main focus is shape analysis of functions and curves—in one, two, and higher dimensions—both closed and open. It develops elegant Riemannian frameworks that provide both quantification of shape differences and registration of curves at the same time. Additionally, these methods are used for statistically summarizing given curve data, performing dimension reduction, and modeling observed variability. It is recommended that the reader have a background in calculus, linear algebra, numerical analysis, and computation.
