Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Born in 1842, Camille Flammarion was a French astronomer who wrote many popular books about science and astronomy, together with a number of novels which we would now consider to be science fiction. He was a contemporary of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, though his works never achieved their level of popularity. Omega: The Last Days of the World is an English translation of Flammarion’s novel La Fin du Monde, published in 1893. The book’s fictional premise is the discovery of a comet on a collision course with the Earth in the 25th century. However, this is mostly a pretext on which Flammarion can hang his interesting scientific speculations about how the world will end, together with philosophical thoughts about war and religion. Much of the scientific description he uses in the book, while accurately representing the knowledge and thinking of his time, has today been superseded by modern discoveries. For example, we now know the source of the Sun’s energy to be nuclear fusion rather than being due to gravitational contraction and the constant infall of meteorites. When talking about the ills of society, however, Flammarion could well be talking about today’s world. For example, he excoriates the vast waste of society’s resources on war, and demonstrates how much more productive each nation’s economy would be without it. He also depicts the media of his future world as having been entirely taken over by commercial interests, publishing only what will excite the greatest number of readers rather than serving the public interest. Omega ranges over a vast period of time, from prehistory through to millions of years in the future when mankind has been reduced to the last two doomed individuals. Nevertheless, the book ends on a hopeful and inspiring note. This book is part of the Standard Ebooks project, which produces free public domain ebooks.

Book excerpt: When you overcome the odds, waking up and smelling the coffee never felt better. Omega Giovanni was finally getting his life on track. After the father of his unborn baby abandoned G and denied their child, G landed in a series of shelters and makeshift homes until he delivered his baby. Now, he is ready to spread his wings and start a new career. Working as a Cafe Om trainee, with the opportunity to move up into management, will help G give his daughter the life she deserves. Alpha Elliot’s life is shrouded in secrets—secrets that he wants to keep hidden as he oversees Cafe Om’s coffee plantations. Surrounded by the cool mist of the mountain breezes, he can focus on growing the beans that put Cafe Om on the map. Life would be perfect. If only he didn’t need to constantly look over his shoulder. Even hidden away in the mountains, he can never get too comfortable. The magic of Cafe Om isn’t only in the beans. When Giovanni travels to the plantation, he expects to learn what makes Cafe Om tick. Instead, he meets an alpha he can’t stop thinking about. He admires Elliot’s passion for the coffee—and when Elliot turns a little of that passion his way, they brew up a hot romance. If only danger and a baby daddy who once denied his daughter weren’t lurking nearby, ready to destroy their fragile new connection. Accepting His Omega is the second book in the Cafe Om Forever series, a new 60k-word spin-off of the popular M/M Non-shifter Mpreg Cafe Om Love series. It features a hot alpha with a past, a single omega with the sweetest daughter you ever did meet, a shitty baby daddy who shows up out of nowhere, a goat, a guaranteed HEA, and all the knotty goodness you expect from Harper B. Cole and Colbie Dunbar.

Book The Selkie Prince s Unexpected Omega

Download or read book The Selkie Prince s Unexpected Omega written by J.J. Masters and published by Double-J Romance, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-10-13 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An alpha claim. A possible heir. A Selkie prince whose mistake might just be what the fates intended. Zale, the third alpha-born son of King Solomon, is concerned. His youngest brother, Caol, has been spending time with an unbonded omega. Being a responsible alpha, Zale feels it’s his duty to warn the omega Finn before he and Caol get into trouble. Especially since Finn had only been brought to the colony by their father in case his oldest brother’s fated mate couldn’t conceive. However, when Zale goes to Finn’s quarters to have a word with him, he isn’t expecting to discover what he does: the omega in the throes of oestrus and begging for an alpha’s assistance. Finn has nowhere else to go. Not only unwanted by his own family, his previous alpha perished in a tragic accident. So for the past two years, the omega has relied on the King of the North’s generosity, even if it means he may end up as a surrogate for one of the alpha-born princes. Or even worse, the king’s sixth mate. But when the Prince Zale comes upon him during his heat, Finn demands relief from the alpha. Although afterward, has to live with the guilt. Now, he might not only be carrying the prince’s son, he may have very well ruined Zale’s chance to find his true fated mate... Note: A 58k-plus word m/m shifter mpreg story, this is the third book in the Royal Alpha series. Due to the “knotty” times in this book, it is recommended for mature readers only. While it can be read as a standalone, it’s recommended to read the series in order. And, like all of my books, it has an HEA.

Book Doctor Who and the Art of Adaptation

Download or read book Doctor Who and the Art of Adaptation written by Marcus K. Harmes and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2014-05-01 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although it started as a British television show with a small but devoted fan base, Doctor Who has grown in popularity and now appeals to audiences around the world. In the fifty-year history of the program, Doctor Who’s producers and scriptwriters have drawn on a dizzying array of literary sources and inspirations. Elements from Homer, classic literature, gothic horror, swashbucklers, Jacobean revenge tragedies, Orwellian dystopias, Westerns, and the novels of Agatha Christie and Evelyn Waugh have all been woven into the fabric of the series. One famous storyline from the mid-1970s was rooted in the Victoriana of authors like H. Rider Haggard and Arthur Conan Doyle, and another was a virtual remake of Anthony Hope’s The Prisoner of Zenda—with robots! In Doctor Who and the Art of Adaptation: Fifty Years of Storytelling, Marcus Harmes looks at the show’s frequent exploration of other sources to create memorable episodes. Harmes observes that adaptation in Doctor Who is not just a matter of transferring literary works to the screen, but of bringing a diversity of texts into dialogue with the established mythology of the series as well as with longstanding science fiction tropes. In this process, original stories are not just resituated, but transformed into new works. Harmes considers what this approach reveals about adaptation, television production, the art of storytelling, and the long-term success and cultural resonance enjoyed by Doctor Who. Doctor Who and the Art of Adaptation will be of interest to students of literature and television alike, and to scholars interested in adaptation studies. It will also appeal to fans of the series interested in tracing the deep cultural roots of television’s longest-running and most literate science-fiction adventure.

Omega Addams thought it was a typical work day until a detour on the way home changes everything. She's almost killed, but an innocent bystander, Mitchell Franklin, takes a bullet for Omega during a gas station robbery. In the aftermath, Omega has no idea that God expects her to “pray it forward” until a spiritual battle unfolds before her eyes. Another innocent bystander is in trouble; unless Omega gets her prayer life together, others will die without Christ. It's a chain reaction that highlights the responsibility of a Christian--hot, cold, or lukewarm. It’s time to get our acts together. We are our brother’s keeper.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Omegas… reimagined. Leo badly needs an alpha to help with his heats, but he doesn’t need one for anything else. He’s tough, he’s angry, and he can’t stop begging for what only Angel can give him. Gage wishes he could find an alpha who would treat him like the omega he really is, not the beta they perceive him to be, and Ryker’s all over it. Benjy is out of the den and looking for love. His father wants him to find an alpha, but sometimes the best alpha is another omega. The first three Omega Reimagined novellas have been collected into a single volume.
