Download or read book Transitioning to a Green Economy written by Nadine Smith and published by Commonwealth Secretariat. This book was released on 2014-03-30 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the term ‘green economy’ has been widely used at the international level, very little information exists about what the concept looks like in practice. What are the policies required? What are the challenges of implementation at national level? This book contains case studies from eight small states who have committed publicly to greening their economies: Botswana, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Mauritius, Nauru, Samoa and Seychelles. It provides insights into the success of various initiatives and highlights how small states themselves are making practical progress on a green economy approach.

Book Oil Recession

Download or read book Oil Recession written by Barton A. Smith and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2008-07 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report analyzes the experience in the 1980s of energy driven economics. Regional economic analyses have for some time needed the incorporation of more short run supply-side factors that can influence employment & output growth. The energy recession of the 1980s provides an excellent opportunity to examine the stock-adjustment process at work & test its primary conclusions. This report analyzes the energy cities/regions of Tulsa, Midland & Odessa, New Orleans, Denver, & Alaska. The impact of exogenous changes in the international oil market is felt through fiscal impacts (in particular Alaska & Louisiana); through the derived demand for oil reserves (Houston/ Midland/Odessa, & Tulsa); & through the stimulated search for substitutes. Book Reconciliation and Architectures of Commitment

Download or read book Reconciliation and Architectures of Commitment written by John Braithwaite and published by ANU E Press. This book was released on 2010-09-01 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following a bloody civil war, peace consolidated slowly and sequentially in Bougainville. That sequence was of both a top-down architecture of credible commitment in a formal peace process and layer upon layer of bottom-up reconciliation. Reconciliation was based on indigenous traditions of peacemaking. It also drew on Christian traditions of reconciliation, on training in restorative justice principles and on innovation in womens’ peacebuilding. Peacekeepers opened safe spaces for reconciliation, but it was locals who shaped and owned the peace. There is much to learn from this distinctively indigenous peace architecture. It is a far cry from the norms of a ‘liberal peace’ or a ‘realist peace’. The authors describe it as a hybrid ‘restorative peace’ in which ‘mothers of the land’ and then male combatants linked arms in creative ways. A danger to Bougainville’s peace is weakness of international commitment to honour the result of a forthcoming independence referendum that is one central plank of the peace deal.
