Book excerpt: In addition, although the reported general health of most participants was good and did not change over the course of the study, some drivers limited their driving due to health and mobility concerns. [...] To assess the impact of group transit training, volunteers were randomly assigned to one of three groups: a control group that received no training, a group who received group transit training only, and a group that received group transit training and a free three-month bus pass which was specially encoded to collect data on the frequency for which the participants used the bus. [...] In this report, we describe a collaborative project undertaken by researchers at the Centre of 4 The Older and Wiser Rider Aging, University of Victoria, BC Transit, Silver Threads, and the Capital Regional District (CRD) Traffic Safety Commission to examine the transportation habits of older adults and the impact of group transit training. [...] Participants then proceeded to take a short bus ride where the driver demonstrated how to swipe a bus pass, how to ring the bell to request the next stop, how to get off the bus, and pointed out certain indicators within the bus (e.g., the sign indicating the requested next stop). [...] As the figure shows, a large portion (48.4%) of respondents reported that driving is the form of transportation they use most often, compared to 22.5% who use the bus, and 16.4% who ride as a passenger in a car.

I wrote this book while in prison. It gave me something to do. A lot of stuff that I saw happen I wrote down; maybe it will help other people in the same spot. But mostly this is for my son to let him know how I feel about him. It's hard to say those things but easy to write. I enjoyed writing this book and am very proud of it.

Book The Wise Old Woman Spirit

Download or read book The Wise Old Woman Spirit written by Susan K. Faron and published by Chiron Publications. This book was released on 2023-11-01 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Open this book and enter the world of eros and, curiously, emptiness—two vital qualities of the Wise Old Woman spirit that can help us survive ... possibly even thrive. Through the human imagination and dreams, the Wise Old Woman spirit offers a kind of collaboration and partnership involving a very real intimacy and immediacy while preserving our conscious gains. Although the Wise Old Woman spirit has appeared with many names and in multiple forms, this discovery is specifically born of Jung’s work on the archetype of the Wise Old Man. The Wise Old Woman spirit has emerged as a wisdom figure of her own in the ground-breaking research Dr. Faron has conducted. Not a goddess, nor worshipped, the feminine wisdom figure is nevertheless divine, born out of each individual psyche—man or woman—and functions as a psychological and individual reality. Featuring Emma Jung as the quintessential example of the Wise Old Woman spirit and enriched by dreams of the Wise Old Woman from around the world, this book provides scholarly, experiential and life-affirming inspiration!

Book How Good Riders Get Good New Edition

Download or read book How Good Riders Get Good New Edition written by Denny Emerson and published by Trafalgar Square Books. This book was released on 2020-05-01 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A revised edition of the inspiring bestseller, now in paperback with new good rider profiles! This book is exactly what you need to become a better rider. It's a smart, honest, on-target kick-in-the-pants, guaranteed to rev your engines as you see how a few changes in your life, a few smart choices and strategic moves, can transform you from a run-of-the-mill rider into a good one. How does Denny Emerson know what makes a good rider? For one thing, he is one—he is the only rider in the world to have won both a gold medal in international eventing and a Tevis Cup buckle in endurance. Plus, he's been around great riders, and taught those on their way to becoming great, for over 40 years. How will what Denny knows help you become a good rider? He's boiled the whole thing down into seven broad "Areas of Choice" that determine whether you are a "gonnabe" or whether you'll be stuck in the "wannabe" category for decades. Examine how your choice of riding sport may or may not be the best for who you are and where you live. Find out how those frustrating hurdles known as "life circumstances" don't necessarily hold you back like you think they do. Learn how to build a strong support team by winning people to your cause and choosing the right teachers and mentors. Analyze your physical self (your body, how it is formed and how you care for it) and your intellectual self (your "horse smarts" and how you are adding to them or not) and apply the results to your "gonna-be-good" equation. Take a good hard look at your partner—your horse—and think critically about his ability to help you attain your riding goals. Discover the nine key character traits of successful riders and how you can learn to call each one of them your own. Along the way you'll read the stories of 23 of the world's top riders from different disciplines and sports—including dressage, reining, driving, show jumping, endurance, hunter/jumper, and eventing—and how they "got good" despite the same kinds of challenges and setbacks you face in your own day-to-day riding. You'll get an inside look at their path to success, as well as their very best tips for how to "make it" in the horse industry.
