Book A Review Of Oeec Oil the Outlook for Europe Oeec Europe s Need for Oil Implications and Lessons of the Suez Crisis

Download or read book A Review Of Oeec Oil the Outlook for Europe Oeec Europe s Need for Oil Implications and Lessons of the Suez Crisis written by Harold Lubell and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last two reports of the OEEC's Oil Committee constitute the best available summary of Western Europe's views on its situation with respect to oil. Straddling the Suez crisis, they provide a good mirror of Europe's growing awareness of the extent of its stake in Middle East oil. 'Oil: The Outlook for Europe' was published after the Egyptian nationalization of the Suez Canal, but before the Anglo-French-Israeli attack on Egypt and the subsequent closing of the Canal. Primarily intended to add the details on petroleum to the broader report on 'Europe's Growing Needs of Energy' published a few months earlier by the OEEC's Energy Commission, the report of the Oil Committee gives only slight hints of the threat of disruption of the flow of Europe's supplies of oil from the Middle East.

Book Review and Outlook for the World Oil Market

Download or read book Review and Outlook for the World Oil Market written by Shane S. Streifel and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1995-01-01 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After the collapse of the Soviet system, the immense problems of environmental pollution in Central and Eastern Europe were widely publicized. Less well known were its effects on health in the region, which have led to a serious health crisis. This report examines the degree to which the pollution adversely affected human health, putting it in the context of other health determinants such as socioeconomic factors, health care standards and availability, and lifestyle factors. Among the numerous pollutants, the report points to lead, dust, toxic gases, and nitrates in rural water supplies as having a significant impact on health in Central and Eastern Europe. The author suggests possible avenues for international action. However, an analysis of the determinants of health reveals that addressing the pollution problems alone will not solve the health crisis. Improving health in this region will depend on the changing economic fortunes of individual countries and the ability of each to create a supportive social environment for its citizens.

Book Second Round Effects of Oil Price Shocks Implications for Europe s Inflation Outlook

Download or read book Second Round Effects of Oil Price Shocks Implications for Europe s Inflation Outlook written by Chikako Baba and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2022-09-09 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pass-through effects of oil price shocks on wage and consumer price inflation vary with the states or structural characteristics of an economy. The effects have declined over time in Europe and been higher in emerging European economies than in advanced economies. The pass-through to wages is found to have been higher when the prevailing level of inflation was higher or when the degrees of unionization and centralized bargaining were higher, while lower under a higher credibility of monetary policy. The effects of oil price shocks on core inflation and inflation expectations are consistent with their effects on wages.

Book Oil Power and War

    Book Details:
  • Author : Matthieu Auzanneau
  • Publisher : Chelsea Green Publishing
  • Release : 2020-02-20
  • ISBN : 1603589783
  • Pages : 674 pages

Download or read book Oil Power and War written by Matthieu Auzanneau and published by Chelsea Green Publishing. This book was released on 2020-02-20 with total page 674 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story of oil is one of hubris, fortune, betrayal, and destruction. It is the story of a resource that has been undeniably central to the creation of our modern culture, and ever-present during the darkest exploits of empire the world over. For the past 150 years, oil has become the most essential ingredient for economic, military, and political power. And it has brought us to our present moment in which political leaders and the fossil-fuel industry consider extraordinary, and extraordinarily dangerous, policy on a world stage marked by shifting power bases. Upending the conventional wisdom by crafting a “people’s history,” award-winning journalist Matthieu Auzanneau deftly traces how oil became a national and then global addiction, outlines the enormous consequences of that addiction, sheds new light on major historical and contemporary figures, and raises new questions about stories we thought we knew well: What really sparked the oil crises in the 1970s, the shift away from the gold standard at Bretton Woods, or even the financial crash of 2008? How has oil shaped the events that have defined our times: two world wars, the Cold War, the Great Depression, ongoing wars in the Middle East, the advent of neoliberalism, and the Great Recession, among them? With brutal clarity, Oil, Power, and War exposes the heavy hand oil has had in all of our lives—and illustrates how much heavier that hand could get during the increasingly desperate race to control the last of the world’s easily and cheaply extractable reserves.
