Book Popular Oil Geology Classic Reprint

Download or read book Popular Oil Geology Classic Reprint written by Victor Ziegler and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-29 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Popular Oil Geology The following pages represent an elaboration of a number of popular lectures in the geology of oil and gas. These were delivered during the past winter, in part at the Colorado School of Mines and in part in the City of Denver, under the auspices Of the Colorado State Oil Com mission. This little book is not intended to be a general treatise on the subject of oil and gas geology. It is not intended for the experienced oil geologist. It is written for the man without technical or scientific training in this branch of geology. Every attempt has been made to pre sent in as simple language as possible the fundamental principles of oil geology, and to render these intelligible to the layman who may be interested in this subject from the practical standpoint, or for the sake of making invest ments, or perhaps only because of a desire to add to his general knowledge. Anyone who wishes to continue his studies in this subject is referred to the treatises mentioned below, or to the author's Principles of Oil Geology, which is now in preparation, and to which this little book is really an introduction. I have not hesitated to draw liberally on the literature of petroleum. Because of the nature of the book, and in the desire to keep it as free as possible from unnecessary material, I have purposely refrained from citations and acknowledgments in the text. I have used most freely the following works: Bacon and Hamor, The American Petroleum Industry Johnson and Huntley, Oil and Gas Production; A. Beeby Thompson, Oil Field Develop ment Hager, Practical Oil Geology and Cunningham Craig, Oil Finding. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book A Handbook of the Petroleum Industry Vol 1 of 2 Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Handbook of the Petroleum Industry Vol 1 of 2 Classic Reprint written by David T. Day and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 982 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Handbook of the Petroleum Industry, Vol. 1 of 2 Wherever petroleum occurs in nature, natural gas is generally found in the same locality or region. Gas, however, is less restricted in its distribution than is oil, and numerous gas pools exist where no petroleum occurs in close proximity. Because of the relationship of natural gas to petroleum, the two substances must, to a consider able extent, be considered together. Both petroleum and natural gas are among the great industrial resources of the world and the countries which possess them in large quantities are exceedingly fortunate. The fact that these substances have not yet been developed in a particular locality is rarely proof of their absence, as no year passes without the discovery of new and often unsuspected fields or pools. The occurrence of oil and gas is widespread, no stratified rock being so young, and scarcely any so old, as absolutely to preclude their existence. Consequently, any country in which geological conditions are favorable is warranted in exerting every effort and undertaking great expense to investigate and determine its resources in petroleum and natural gas. In this outline of the occurrence of petroleum the numerous references made use of are given credit where possible. In addition to those specifically mentioned there are certain general sources of information, such as the report of S. F. Peckham entitled, The Production, Technology and Uses of Petroleum and its Products, in volume 10 Of the Tenth Census of the United States, 1880, pages 1-319' A Treatise on Petroleum by Sir Boverton Redwood, London, 1913, three volumes; Petroleum Mining and Oil Field Development, by Arthur Beeby Thompson, London, 1916, 648 pages; the annual statis tical reports in the Mineral Resources series of the United States Geological Survey, by David T. Day, S. H. Shotwell, Joseph D. Weeks, F. H. Oliphant, W. T. Griswold and John D. Northrop, and many other Geological Survey references of a general nature. In this chapter the word oil is frequently used as being sufficiently synonymous with petroleum for the subject matter in hand. Book Oil Production Methods Classic Reprint

Download or read book Oil Production Methods Classic Reprint written by Paul M. Paine and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-04 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Oil Production Methods The 'problems associated with the production of petroleum lie in that middle ground where the geologist, engineer and driller meet. It is anticipated that the latter class, the men who have come up 'from the derrick floor, ' will find little that is new in this book. It has been prepared in response to the demand for a work describing, in a man ner that may be understood by the layman, how wells are drilled and oil produced. The subject is too exhaustive to be covered fully in a single volume ofthis size, and if the authors have described more particularly the methods of the Pacific Coast fields they feel warranted in so doing from the statements of travelers that California practice embodies the most advanced methods in the industry. The authors are indebted to various associates for prompt responses to demands for assistance and wish to express their thanks to all of these, especially to Mr. H. H. Hillman, of the California National Supply Company, Mr. W. 0. Todd and Mr. T. S. Kingston, to whom is due much of whatever value this book may have. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Principles of Oil and Gas Production To some the drilling of wells may seem the very heart of oil and gas production, but it is in fact merely an operation used also by the miner and the prospector for water, and is not worthy of the disproportionate attention it has received, as compared with that given to the very vital need of developing better methods of locating and extracting.
