Book Oh My Beloved

Download or read book Oh My Beloved written by Joanne Blum, PH.D. and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2002-01-31 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can we make our love lives deeper and more enriching? What allows us to tap into our relationships’ soul-transforming power? How can we be sure our relationship choices are Spirit-guided rather than ego-driven? Oh My Beloved! takes as its essential theme that the soul-level love each of us longs for is first discovered within before it is enacted without. Seven sacred qualities of the divinely guided relationship are identified—preparedness, awareness, inner-directedness, emptiness, celebration, service, and spiritual midwifery—which can be used to deepen our experience of love, either with the loved ones now in our lives, or in new relationships to come. True, fulfilling, and enduring love is possible for us all.

Book excerpt: Welcome back to Hawk Island and the village of Two Brooks. After three men disappeared, Monsignor Inocente, is suspicious of the semblance of peace and quiet in his village, and with good reason. He knows his villagers, especially a group of strong-willed women called the Sacristy—defiant and mercurial, delivering their own brand of alternative justice against errant, abusive men. He tries to curb their vigilante means of attaining justice and the general willful behavior of his people, while at the same time protecting them from the implacable heavy hand of justice coming from the mainland. When a police inspector from the mainland, with wild hair and a hooded smile, arrives in Two Brooks to investigate the disappearance of the three men, the residents wonder if he will bring them more sorrow or maybe even hope. As the inspector digs deeper into the lives of the villagers, he becomes one of them. Is it a ruse to learn their secrets or did he fall prey to their ways? In the second book of the Hawk Island series, Angela, one of the Sacristy women, continues to challenge the violent subordination and unrepentant oppression of women in her village. One of her virtues is the depth of her love for people and causes; she does it completely and unabashedly, but this becomes her undoing when she faces the painful truth of loving more than one man.

Book Love A Good Medicine The Saga of the Elixir of Life Introducing LoveOlogy

Download or read book Love A Good Medicine The Saga of the Elixir of Life Introducing LoveOlogy written by Dr. Siddhartha Ganguli and published by Allied Publishers. This book was released on 2024-01-15 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The human emotion of love has its own spectrum like the rainbow, with its two extremes—represented by two different neuro-chemicals: ‘Dopamine’ (‘Smart Love’ & ‘Short-lived’ or ‘Short Love’) and ‘Oxytocin’ (‘Sustained Love’). In the ancient Indian ‘NatyaShastra’ of the great Bharata Muni, the essence or rasa of love is ‘Sringara’, having at its two poles ‘Kama’ (lust) and ‘Prema’ (pure love). As illustrations of the ‘Sringara’ rasa, the author has analysed a number of love song lyrics from different cultures. In this book, while the author has looked at and analysed ‘love’ from the angles of bio-medical, social, psychological and neurological sciences, one unique concept shared is that of the ‘love pie’. A very special section deals with ‘Futuristic Love’ where the author has discussed the idea of having a love-relationship with ‘AI’ (‘Artificial Intelligence’). Special contributions by the Stellar Maestro world-famous polymath musician-astrophysicist-philosopher-painter Dr Leonid Timoshenko of Russia and the top-ranking gynaecologist and obstetrician Dr Gouri Kumra from India are precious value-additions.

Book excerpt: Hauron of the Eleven is the second novel in the Shaylae Trilogy. It begins on the planet Yurob, the home of Dark Ones, and runs concurrently with the events on Earth recorded in Shaylae of the Gentle Heart. Hauron is a slave and has just begun his servitude in the lithium mines and will more than likely be dead by the time he reaches his fortieth birthday. However, there is something unusual about Hauronhe has visions in which he sees events back on Earth. In particular he has just witnessed Shaylaes first encounter with the Dark Ones. He is terrified that the ruling class of Yurob will kill him and probably his family if these powers are discovered. Hauron is brought before First Prophet and the Council of The Eleven. Fearing he will be put to death he is surprised to learn that First Prophet needs him. It appears that Hauron may have more power, particularly when it comes to seeing events on Earth, than any other member of the ruling council. Hauron is accepted into the ruling classes over the objections of some members of The Eleven. Haurons power increases as he is educated in the ways of the Dark Ones until he becomes Second of The Eleven, second only to First Prophet. While he has very little in common with the rulers of Yurob, Hauron does believe that Shaylae is the reincarnated Asdzn Ndleeh, the one who destroyed Yurob three-thousand years earlier. Hauron intends to use his power and new position to bring significant changes to life on Yurob and improving the working conditions and social standing of the slaves. Four years later Shaylae visits Yurob and meets Hauron and together they plot the downfall of the ruling classes. What neither of them has realized is that one of the members of the Council of Eleven, Denab, is significantly more than he seems and has an agenda of his own. It will take all of Shaylaes power combined with the powers of Micah and Ayanna to defeat this new foe, although each of them will first have to face him alone.

Book excerpt: "In Translating the Garden, Ghanoonparvar offers readers an "over the shoulder" view of himself in the actual process of translating Shahrokh Meskub's Goftogu dar Bagh (Dialogue in the Garden) from Persian into English. This short philosophical work uses a conversation between a writer and a painter to delve into the Persian psyche and explore Persian perceptions of art, literature, nature, identity, spirituality, and the world in general. As he translates the text, Ghanoonparvar illustrates and discusses the myriad decisions that a literary translator faces, from word choices to the problems of conveying cultural concepts and deciphering authorial intent. He also compares some of his translated passages with those of other translators to highlight the uniqueness of each act of translation. The complete English translation of Dialogue in the Garden rounds out the volume."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. All Rights Reserved
