  • Pages : 346 pages

Download or read book Saltwater Taffy written by Fred Cicetti and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2004 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Saltwater Taffy is about first loves. It takes place during one summer at the Jersey Shore in the early 1950s, when Johnnie Ray cried on jukeboxes, you drank Coke from six-ounce bottles, and lovers used condoms primarily for birth control. Saltwater Taffy delineates love affairs that are complicated by cultural and age differences during an ignored time period-that short breath between the post-war boom and Rock 'n' Roll. The setting is once-fashionable Essex Beach, NJ, a community where Victorian mansions built with old money have been converted to summer boarding houses for Italian-American families from New York and New Jersey. Saltwater Taffy explores how people fall in love. It compares the mature love of Sonny & Emily, the adolescent love of Bobby & Camille, and the violent love of Ralph & Toni. These relationships play out as intertwined melodies that climax in surprising ways on Labor Day weekend.

Book The Incomplete Framley Examiner

Download or read book The Incomplete Framley Examiner written by The Editors and published by Unbound Publishing. This book was released on 2021-10-14 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2001, fans of the internet were introduced to scanned pages from spoof local newspaper The Framley Examiner. Packed with humdrum and preposterous news stories, classified ads, local business features and headlines that seemed to have been typed while asleep, it skewered the banal madness of small-town existence, perfectly encapsulating the British national character. Framley’s strange yet familiar community – stuffed with its own cast, insane geography and rich local history – struck a chord with those who recognised their own home towns in its reflection. The website was loved and shared by an eager public as well as famous fans from Little Britain, The Simpsons and the Cambridge Centre for Theoretical Cosmology (Professor Stephen Hawking was a Framley enthusiast). Marking the twentieth anniversary of the website's first appearance The Incomplete Framley Examiner combines the pages of the original book, published in 2002, with all the pages published online in the years since and brand new material for a bigger, more luxurious, toilet-proof compendium for the annals of history.

Book The Story Until Now

Download or read book The Story Until Now written by Kit Reed and published by Wesleyan University Press. This book was released on 2013-03-15 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The best stories from a master of speculative fiction Called "one of our brightest cultural commentators" by Publishers Weekly, Kit Reed draws from life—with a difference. This new collection brings together thirty-four of her strong, original stories, from early classics like "The Wait" and "Winter" to six never-before-collected short stories, including "The Legend of Troop 13" and "Wherein We Enter the Museum." An early favorite, "Automatic Tiger," is the first in a series of Reed's stories about animals. There's a monkey who grinds out bestsellers with the help of a "creative writing" app. Her uncanny black dog can enter a crowded room and sit down at the feet of the next man to die. Her characters confront war in various arenas: mother/daughter battles, the war of the sexes, the struggles of men scarred by war. Kit Reed's self-described "transgenred" fiction is confirmation of an "extraordinary talent" (The Financial Times). The range and complexity of her work speaks for itself in The Story Until Now.

Book excerpt: Welcome to a world of Dangerous Emotions. I have been contiplating on writing a series of short stories for some time now. In this first novel I present to you a series of fictional characters with real life situations and stories. However, some stories are completely fiction, although this novel has been cleverly written to hide the idenity of real people and real life situations that I've observed throughout my childhood years on up till now, "an" any names or similarities are a complete coincidence. In this novel you'll find a world of, drama, murder, greed, deception, love, hate, envy, and revenge, followed by short but sweet poems and prayers. "For every lost soul needs a prayer." "An" although I said I wouldn't, I'm going to give you a small clue of what my novel is all about. Let me introduce to you a couple of my favorite characters, for starters I bring to you, Tamara Monet, a very dominate, independent, caring woman, who has suffered a lot throughout her childhood, who finds herself trapped in a world of lies and deceit; And now it's time for her to find herself, by letting go of all the negative baggage she's carrying, in which is very hard for her to do with all the added baggage that will simply break her all the way down in order for her find her mission in life. Now I would like to present a very exciting character by the name of Michael Paul, who's an ex-convict, trying to start his life over with a clean slate, but is gradually pushed towards a dangerous lifestyle and a lot of people who would love to see his downfall, but that's all for now, you'll have to read the book to get the real juice.
