Book excerpt: As they all stand at attention under the United Cats flag saying the Pledge of All-We-Cats, the cats of Camp Rabbitbone dream about the exciting summer they are bound for at camp. Swimming in the pool of catnip, playing games such as Bat the Birdie, Battlemouse, and Pick-Up-Bones, taking extra long cat naps and of course eating are just a few of the activities the camp kitties have in store for them. And keeping up with McGraw the bully cat could be enough activity for the whole summer. But it is a fun summer for all as the cats make friends while experiencing the joys of cathood. With dishes such as the Mole Bowl and Mouse Paw à la Macgraw, the restaurant is sure to delight its furry customers. Not a fan of mole or mouse or snake? Don’t worry! Book excerpt: True Story: It was Thanksgiving time. A flock of wild turkeys were seen on the platform of a suburban train station. Sara Swan Miller, a children's book author, asked herself: why were they there? Sara thought about that question, and a few more like it: Were they going somewhere? Were they trying to get away from some place, or some person? Did they just want to take a train ride? There was nobody around who could answer those questions. So Sara made up her own answers, and wrote this funny little book in order to explain Turkeys on the Train. Sara Swan Miller is also the author of OH, CATS OF CAMP RABBITBONE and AT THE RABBITBONE RESTAURANT.

Book Skeletal Tissue Mechanics

Download or read book Skeletal Tissue Mechanics written by R. Bruce Martin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-10-29 with total page 501 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook describes the biomechanics of bone, cartilage, tendons and ligaments. It is rigorous in its approach to the mechanical properties of the skeleton yet it does not neglect the biological properties of skeletal tissue or require mathematics beyond calculus. Time is taken to introduce basic mechanical and biological concepts, and the approaches used for some of the engineering analyses are purposefully limited. The book is an effective bridge between engineering, veterinary, biological and medical disciplines and will be welcomed by students and researchers in biomechanics, orthopedics, physical anthropology, zoology and veterinary science. This book also: Maximizes reader insights into the mechanical properties of bone, fatigue and fracture resistance of bone and mechanical adaptability of the skeleton Illustrates synovial joint mechanics and mechanical properties of ligaments and tendons in an easy-to-understand way Provides exercises at the end of each chapter

Book Bone Circulation and Vascularization in Normal and Pathological Conditions

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Association Internationale de Recherche sur la Circulation Osseuse, A.R.C.O., was founded in London in December 1989 by a small group of doctors, surgeons and researchers in basic sciences who had been involved for many years in the study of bone circulation and its disorders. They had met several times in Toulouse, during the International Symposia on Bone Circulation held there since 1973 and they wished to carry their contacts further. In founding A.R.C.O., they established as their primary aims the encouragement and furtherance of research, organisation of meetings and promotion of knowledge on the subject. At the present time, the Association has over a hundred members from more than bone tissue twenty countries in Europe, America and Asia. All have the conviction that and its pathology can only be truly known and studied if one has an understanding of its vascular system and the way its circulation functions. This concept, apparently beyond question, has not yet been adopted by all physicians and scientists who are interested in bone. From time to time, one comes across teaching programmes on bone patho logy which make no mention of bone circulation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 4th International Conference on Hemochromatosis and the 11th International Conference on Iron and Iron Proteins took place in Jerusalem on April 27 -30 and on May 2 -7 1993, respectively. The first, a clinical meeting, and the second, a forum designed primarily for basic scientists. Both meetings are held regularly on alter nate years and represent probably the most important forum for the exchange of information in iron research. The present volume "Progress in Iron Research" is based on a selection of presentations delivered at these meetings. However, this volume represents much more than a publication of conference proceedings. It offers a comprehensive state-of-the-art review on most aspects of iron metabolism. We have tried to offer a balanced review of the most important recent developments in iron research including both basic research and clinical investigation. However, the scope of chapters was based, by definition, on the actual participants at the meetings and some important fields in iron research such as plant physiology, microbial aspects of iron metabolism, and free radical research have not been dealt with. Many of the authors of the 40 chapters have beel). pt1rsonally responsible for some of the most important developments in iron research ~~vidffig: n~~~ights into iron physiology and pathophysiology. The Editors wish to express their gratitude for the outstanding and timely cooperation of all contributors to this volume.
