Book excerpt: "... Included in the [standby vessel] manual is a copy of the Standards Respecting Standby Vessels. These standards are now in force and applicable to our operations. Please ensure that you are thoroughly aware of all requirements of the new standards and conduct the operation of your ship in a manner which, at a minimum, complies with the spirit and intent reflected in these standards. Included in this manual are general arrangement drawings and other information concerning the marking of the ship, designation of space and emergency operations for the vessel in the standby role. An approved copy of this manual is required to be maintained onboard the ship for the Master's reference. [The manual contains sections on: Approvals; Instruction to Master; Rescue Stations; Government Standards Respecting Standby Vessels; Rescue Equipment & Operations; Ship Data (photocopy of a BeauDril brochure); Fleet Data (photocopy of a BeauDril brochure); Ship Plans (no information included).] ... BeauDril's ice-breaking supply vessels, Miscaroo and Ikaluk, are designed primarily for the transport of drilling supplies and equipment, and they also assist in anchor handling, towing and ice-management. Both vessels contain bulk storage and transfer facilities for barite, cement, fuel and water, as well as a large afterdeck suitable for up to 1 200 tonnes of cargo. Miscaroo and Ikaluk are of all-steel construction, and are 260 feet (79 metres) ng, with a moulded breadth of 56 feet (17.2 metres) and a moulded depth of 32 feet (9.7 metres). Both vessels have been designed to Arctic Ice Class IV specifications, enabling them to proceed continuously through ice at least four feet (1.2 metres) thick at a minimum of three knots. They are driven by four 3,725-horsepower diesel engines geared to twin shafts with controllable-pitch propellers, and have been designed to operate in heavy ice without interruption for up to 33 days, and in open water for as many as 55 days. Miscaroo and Ikaluk feature single-room accommodation for a crew of 22, with provision for 12 visitors, and both vessels have communal lounges and recreational facilities. Book Lees Loss Prevention in the Process Industries

Download or read book Lees Loss Prevention in the Process Industries written by Frank Lees and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2005-01-25 with total page 3708 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last three decades the process industries have grown very rapidly, with corresponding increases in the quantities of hazardous materials in process, storage or transport. Plants have become larger and are often situated in or close to densely populated areas. Increased hazard of loss of life or property is continually highlighted with incidents such as Flixborough, Bhopal, Chernobyl, Three Mile Island, the Phillips 66 incident, and Piper Alpha to name but a few. The field of Loss Prevention is, and continues to, be of supreme importance to countless companies, municipalities and governments around the world, because of the trend for processing plants to become larger and often be situated in or close to densely populated areas, thus increasing the hazard of loss of life or property. This book is a detailed guidebook to defending against these, and many other, hazards. It could without exaggeration be referred to as the "bible" for the process industries. This is THE standard reference work for chemical and process engineering safety professionals. For years, it has been the most complete collection of information on the theory, practice, design elements, equipment, regulations and laws covering the field of process safety. An entire library of alternative books (and cross-referencing systems) would be needed to replace or improve upon it, but everything of importance to safety professionals, engineers and managers can be found in this all-encompassing reference instead. Frank Lees' world renowned work has been fully revised and expanded by a team of leading chemical and process engineers working under the guidance of one of the world’s chief experts in this field. Sam Mannan is professor of chemical engineering at Texas A&M University, and heads the Mary Kay O’Connor Process Safety Center at Texas A&M. He received his MS and Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Oklahoma, and joined the chemical engineering department at Texas A&M University as a professor in 1997. He has over 20 years of experience as an engineer, working both in industry and academia. New detail is added to chapters on fire safety, engineering, explosion hazards, analysis and suppression, and new appendices feature more recent disasters. The many thousands of references have been updated along with standards and codes of practice issued by authorities in the US, UK/Europe and internationally. In addition to all this, more regulatory relevance and case studies have been included in this edition. Written in a clear and concise style, Loss Prevention in the Process Industries covers traditional areas of personal safety as well as the more technological aspects and thus provides balanced and in-depth coverage of the whole field of safety and loss prevention. * A must-have standard reference for chemical and process engineering safety professionals * The most complete collection of information on the theory, practice, design elements, equipment and laws that pertain to process safety * Only single work to provide everything; principles, practice, codes, standards, data and references needed by those practicing in the field

Book Operational Aspects of Oil and Gas Well Testing

Download or read book Operational Aspects of Oil and Gas Well Testing written by S. McAleese and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-03-10 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Well Testing is recognised by many operating oil and gas companies to be the most hazardous operation they routinely undertake. Therefore, it is of great importance that such operations are extremely well planned and executed. This handbook covers all the major "Operational Aspects of Oil and Gas Well Testing" and uses a structured approach to guide the reader through the steps required to safely and effectively plan a well test operation under just about any circumstances world wide.Safety procedures and well testing recommended practices are rigorously addressed in this book, as are the responsibilities of those persons involved in well testing operations. Perforating equipment, drill stem test equipment and bottom hole pressure gauges are discussed in detail in the book. There is also a very valuable section on sub sea equipment, an area often not well understood even by experienced engineers who may have been primarily involved with land or jackup rigs. A major part of the book is the detailed coverage of the equipment and instrumentation that makes up a surface well testing package. It also covers operational and testing related problems such as, hydrates, wax and sand, and offers the reader some possible solutions. There are useful chapters on sampling, onsite chemistry, coil tubing and nitrogen operations and basic stimulation as they relate to well testing. Finally there is an extensive section of appendices covering useful engineering calculations and there is a complete example of a detailed well testing programme.
