Download or read book Medical Writing written by Robert B. Taylor and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-08-17 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first edition of this book (titled “The Clinician’s Guide to Medical Writing”) has become a standard in its field and remains an indispensible reference for any clinician, academic physician, or health professional who wishes to hone their writing skills. However, since its publication in 2004, significant changes have taken place in the way medical professionals communicate with each other and the world. Medical Writing: A Guide for Clinicians and Academicians, 2e retains all of the fundamental writing advice of the first edition and has been expanded to include two brand new chapters: How to Write a Research Protocol (including why a research project needs a written protocol, elements of the research protocol and common problems) How to Write a Grant Proposal (including sections on government and private grant funding sources, what you need to know about grant writing, and elements of a successful grant proposal) New information is also included throughout the book on becoming a successful writer, medical tables and figures, conflict of interest and disclosures, how to review a scientific article, statistical analysis, “pay-to-publish” journal publishing, electronic submission of manuscripts, issues in medical publishing and the future of medical writing and publication. New appendices address commonly encountered research and statistical terms and memorable aphorisms regarding writing, medical and otherwise.

Download or read book Bibliography of the Writings of Sir William Osler Classic Reprint written by Minnie Wright Blogg and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-15 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Bibliography of the Writings of Sir William Osler The Bibliography of Sir William Osler, covering a period of forty-nine years (1870-1919) and representing 730 titles, which I compiled at the request of the Superintendent of The Johns Hopkins Hospital, was published in the Osler Number of The Johns Hopkins Hospital Bulletin; as published in the volume Sir William Osler, Bart. (1920), additional titles, many of which were sent the compiler by Sir William, brought the number up to 773. The increase to the present number of 1,195 titles has been made through pleasant, if labourious, research as well as by the generous help of Sir William Osler's friends. If all suggestions as to titles have not been accepted, it is because the authorship of many unsigned articles could not be established and not from lack of appreciation of the kindness of those who gave them. I am particularly grateful to Dr. W. W. Francis, who was the bearer of messages from Sir William, and who has given valuable addenda. My indebtedness is great to Dr. Thomas McCrae whose advice has been invaluable, and to Messrs. Lea and Febiger who unearthed numerous unsigned editorials and gave me their titles. The kindness of Dr. Wilburt C. Davison in lending the photograph (a gift of Sir William to Dr. Davison) which appears as a frontispiece, has placed me under lasting gratitude. Download or read book Clinician s Guide to Medical Writing written by Robert B. Taylor and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-03-20 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is for the clinician who wants to write. It is for the physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner who sees patients and who wants to contribute to the medical l- erature. You may be an assistant professor aspiring to p- motion or a clinician in private practice who seeks the personal enrichment that writing can bring. If you are new to medical writing or even if you have been the author of some articles or book chapters and seek to improve your abilities, this book can help you. Who am I that I can make this assertion and write this book, both fairly presumptuous? Here’s my reasoning. As a practicing physician, writing has been my avocation; unlike the authors of many other writing books, I am not a journal editor. Over 14 years in private practice and 26 years in a- demic medicine, I have written all the major models described in this book: review articles, case reports, edito- als, letters to the editor, book reviews, book chapters, edited books, authored books, and reports of clinical research st- ies. Most have been published. Not all. Perhaps my most signi?cant quali?cation is not that I have managed to p- duce a lengthy curriculum vitae. In my opinion, what is more important for you, the reader, is that I have made all the errors. That’s right, the mistakes.

Download or read book The Legacies of Richard Popkin written by Jeremy D. Popkin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-11-05 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Richard H. Popkin (1923-2005) transformed the study of the history of philosophy in the second half of the twentieth century. His History of Scepticism and his many other publications demonstrated the centrality of the problem of skepticism in the development of modern thought, the intimate connections between philosophy and religion, and the importance of contacts between Jewish and Christian thinkers. In this volume, scholars from around the world assess Popkin’s contributions to the many fields in which he was interested. The Legacies of Richard Popkin provides a broad overview of Popkin’s work and demonstrates the connections between the many topics he wrote about. A concluding article, by Popkin’s son Jeremy Popkin, draws on private letters to provide a picture of Popkin’s life and career in his own words, revealing the richness of the documents now accessible to scholars in the Richard Popkin papers at the William Andrews Clark Library in Los Angeles.
