Book Officiating Softball

Download or read book Officiating Softball written by American Sport Education Program and published by Human Kinetics Publishers. This book was released on 2004 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Make sure you're in the right place at the right time to make the right call. Based on National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) rules, Officiating Softball covers officiating procedures and responsibilities, plate and field umpire mechanics for both fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball, and rules application. You'll learn what's expected of you as an umpire, pre- and postgame duties, and equipment and safety regulations. The book contains three chapters detailing basic umpiring positions and descriptions; plate umpire mechanics; field umpire mechanics; and one-, two-, and three-umpire systems. Also included are real-life cases that demonstrate correct rulings, point out common umpiring errors and how to avoid them, and challenge you to make the right call in game situations. Officiating Softball is not a rules book--it's a practical resource on applying the rules and umpiring mechanics developed and approved by the NFHS. Officiating Softball was written by the American Sport Education Program (ASEP) in cooperation with the NFHS. It serves as the text for the NFHS Officiating Softball Methods Online Course, offered through the NFHS Officials Education Program.

Book Legacy of the Blues a Century of Athletics at the W

Download or read book Legacy of the Blues a Century of Athletics at the W written by Garrett and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-03-09 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mississippi University for Women was a pioneer in the Southeast Region as well as the State of Mississippi in encouraging, promoting, and sponsoring intercollegiate athletics for women. The programs were always of the highest quality and conducted with integrity. The students and coaches involved were dedicated and committed to their respective sport. Loss of the Physical Education Assembly Building, destroyed by a tornado in 2002, and the subsequent decision (2003) by the university to cease participation in intercollegiate athletics prompted the writing of this book. Physical resources and historical records had been destroyed. Concern that the knowledge of this program would be lost along with its signifi cance to the university alumnae, and womens sport history, challenged five retired Health and Kinesiology faculty members to write this book. They knew that their collective knowledge and experiences were invaluable in recording a century of athletic competition at the W. These women promoted the educational model of sport believing that the opportunity to participate in sports brings both value and pleasure to the quality of life.

Book After Further Review

Download or read book After Further Review written by Mike Pereira and published by Triumph Books. This book was released on 2016-09-15 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A former NFL ref and acclaimed rules expert shares his insights and thoughts on the rules of the sport Only recently in the world of NFL media have "rules experts" become an essential part of a fan's viewing experience. As the league continues to implement rule changes that have more and more of an impact on games and, sometimes, the final outcome, it's become imperative that fans understand the rules and how they're applied. But often, they need help. Mike Pereira, hired by Fox Sports in 2010 as the rules expert for both the NFL and college football, was not only the first to rise to prominence in the role, but he is consistently lauded as being the best by his peers and even rival media networks. Viewers have come to rely on Pereira, the former vice president of NFL officiating, to provide entertaining, informative, and reliable explanations of the league's often baffling and controversial rulings during games. Now, Pereira digs a little deeper and gives NFL fans and casual viewers alike insight into NFL rules, their applications, and some of the most controversial calls in recent memory, in terms both can understand. In this book, Pereira draws on professional experience and his personal life, both his years of work at the pinnacle of the officiating world and his upbringing as the child of longtime official, Al Pereira.

Book Baseball Literature Culture

Download or read book Baseball Literature Culture written by Peter Carino and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2010-07-27 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Indiana State University Conference on Baseball in Literature and American Culture has consistently produced a strong body of scholarship since its inception in 1995. This work is comprised of 18 essays from the ISU conferences of 1995 through 2001. "I Just Hit .300-Time to Renegotiate My Contract" explores how major American writers such as Hemingway, Faulkner, and Ellison have challenged the pastoral idea of baseball envisioned by Whitman. "The Durable Relic" argues that Donald Hall, one of the foremost poets of today, uses baseball in much the same way that William Butler Yeats used Irish mythology to create "frozen moments, unchanging and durable; ageless heroes, Oisin on the Island of Eternal Youth and Ruth pointing to centerfield." "Baseball, the Market and the Public" analyzes the tension between the game as a business and the game as public trust, tracking the game to its present state of overpaid players and greedy owners. "The Story of Toni Stone" considers race and gender in both the game and culture by looking at one of the most remarkable but least known women in the sport, the only one to play in the Negro Leagues. These are just four of the essays, which cover a wide variety of topics.
