If you're having trouble changing your habits, the problem isn't you. The problem is your system. Bad habits repeat themselves again and again not because you don't want to change, but because you have the wrong system for change. You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems. Here, you'll get a proven system that can take you to new heights. Clear is known for his ability to distill complex topics into simple behaviors that can be easily applied to daily life and work. Here, he draws on the most proven ideas from biology, psychology, and neuroscience to create an easy-to-understand guide for making good habits inevitable and bad habits impossible. Along the way, readers will be inspired and entertained with true stories from Olympic gold medalists, award-winning artists, business leaders, life-saving physicians, and star comedians who have used the science of small habits to master their craft and vault to the top of their field. Learn how to: make time for new habits (even when life gets crazy); overcome a lack of motivation and willpower; design your environment to make success easier; get back on track when you fall off course; ...and much more. Atomic Habits will reshape the way you think about progress and success, and give you the tools and strategies you need to transform your habits--whether you are a team looking to win a championship, an organization hoping to redefine an industry, or simply an individual who wishes to quit smoking, lose weight, reduce stress, or achieve any other goal.

Book How to Do Nothing

Download or read book How to Do Nothing written by Jenny Odell and published by Melville House. This book was released on 2020-12-29 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ** A New York Times Bestseller ** NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY: Time • The New Yorker • NPR • GQ • Elle • Vulture • Fortune • Boing Boing • The Irish Times • The New York Public Library • The Brooklyn Public Library "A complex, smart and ambitious book that at first reads like a self-help manual, then blossoms into a wide-ranging political manifesto."—Jonah Engel Bromwich, The New York Times Book Review One of President Barack Obama's "Favorite Books of 2019" Porchlight's Personal Development & Human Behavior Book of the Year In a world where addictive technology is designed to buy and sell our attention, and our value is determined by our 24/7 data productivity, it can seem impossible to escape. But in this inspiring field guide to dropping out of the attention economy, artist and critic Jenny Odell shows us how we can still win back our lives. Odell sees our attention as the most precious—and overdrawn—resource we have. And we must actively and continuously choose how we use it. We might not spend it on things that capitalism has deemed important … but once we can start paying a new kind of attention, she writes, we can undertake bolder forms of political action, reimagine humankind’s role in the environment, and arrive at more meaningful understandings of happiness and progress. Far from the simple anti-technology screed, or the back-to-nature meditation we read so often, How to do Nothing is an action plan for thinking outside of capitalist narratives of efficiency and techno-determinism. Provocative, timely, and utterly persuasive, this book will change how you see your place in our world.

Download or read book Chaos to Calm written by Lisa S. Arnold and published by Ambassador International. This book was released on 2016-03-08 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chaos to Calm . . . Fulfilling Life’s Purpose Through Worship is a guiding light for those who are searching and disillusioned in their lack of fulfillment and purpose in life. It seeks to lead the discontented, dissatisfied, and unfulfilled down the only life-fulfilling passageway. A passageway leading to the only true Light and Giver of contentment and purpose—Jesus Christ—the One our hearts were created to worship. Before true worship can occur, we must first understand what worship is and to whom it is to be offered. Worship is not exclusively a Sunday morning activity. True worship encompasses every aspect of our lives: work, play, and church. Everything we say and do, every minute of every day, is to be offered as our worship. We must also realize that we do not come before a gentle Shepherd, but before the mighty terrifying King of Ezekiel and Revelation. As we see Jesus for who He truly is, we will then begin to “walk in the fear of the Lord.” Only as we see Jesus in His rightful state and walk in the fear of the Lord will we be able to express true worship and experience the fulfillment and purpose our hearts desire. For the believer, who in the midst of all his service and church related activities can find no relief from the discontentment of life, Chaos to Calm offers enlightenment in the knowledge that true contentment will never be ours until we fill the emptiness of our lives with Jesus Christ. Through Him alone were we created to be satisfied. Through Him alone all worship belongs.

Book Movement Integration

    Book Details:
  • Author : Martin Lundgren
  • Publisher : North Atlantic Books
  • Release : 2020-02-18
  • ISBN : 1623174651
  • Pages : 236 pages

Download or read book Movement Integration written by Martin Lundgren and published by North Atlantic Books. This book was released on 2020-02-18 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A paradigm-shifting, integrative approach to understanding body movement. The ability to move with efficiency and agility has been an essential component to our evolution and survival as a species. It has enabled us to find food, fight threats, flee danger, and flourish both individually and collectively. Our body's intricate network of bones, muscles, tissues, and organs moves with great complexity. While traditional anatomy has relied on a reductionist frame for understanding these mechanisms in isolation, the contributors to Movement Integration take a more systemic, integrative approach. Ensomatosy is a new paradigm for comprehending movement from the perspective of the body's entirety. The body's many systems are understood as synchronized both internally and externally. Drawing on expertise in physiotherapy, somatics, sports science, Rolfing, myofascial therapy, craniosacral therapy, Pilates, and yoga, the authors assert that a more comprehensive understanding of movement is key to restoring the body's natural ability to move fluidly and painlessly. With over 150 images, the Color Illustration Model of Relative Movement provides a visual tool for understanding how joints interact with surrounding structures (rather than in isolation). This is an ideal book for physiotherapists, massage therapists, structural integrators, coaches, as well as yoga and Pilates instructors.

Book Hope Joy and Affection in the Classical World

Download or read book Hope Joy and Affection in the Classical World written by Ruth R. Caston and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016-05-02 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The emotions have long been an interest for those studying ancient Greece and Rome. But while the last few decades have produced excellent studies of individual emotions and the different approaches to them by the major philosophical schools, the focus has been almost entirely on negative emotions. This might give the impression that the Greeks and Romans had little to say about positive emotion, something that would be misguided. As the chapters in this collection indicate, there are representations of positive emotions extending from archaic Greek poetry to Augustine, and in both philosophical works and literary genres as wide-ranging as lyric poetry, forensic oratory, comedy, didactic poetry, and the novel. Nor is the evidence uniform: while many of the literary representations give expression to positive emotion but also describe its loss, the philosophers offer a more optimistic assessment of the possibilities of attaining joy or contentment in this life. The positive emotions show some of the same features that all emotions do. But unlike the negative emotions, which we are able to describe and analyze in great detail because of our preoccupation with them, positive emotions tend to be harder to articulate. Hence the interest of the present study, which considers how positive emotions are described, their relationship to other emotions, the ways in which they are provoked or upset by circumstances, how they complicate and enrich our relationships with other people, and which kinds of positive emotion we should seek to integrate. The ancient works have a great deal to say about all of these topics, and for that reason deserve more study, both for our understanding of antiquity and for our understanding of the positive emotions in general.
