Taking inspiration from the university's slogan, "What starts here changes the world," he shared the ten principles he learned during Navy Seal training that helped him overcome challenges not only in his training and long Naval career, but also throughout his life; and he explained how anyone can use these basic lessons to change themselves-and the world-for the better. Not Internal Affairs investigator Alex O'Conner, and not even Mack's lover, whose best attempts at support leave her as cold as the wind whipping across Lake Michigan. With the Department looking to quiet the bad press, Mack can't count on anyone to help her track down Trovic. Even if she can somehow find him in the dark recesses of Chicago's underworld, can she prove that Trovic was the shooter? With her back to the wall and her career at stake, now it's time for Mack to take matters into her own hands to clear her name—and avenge her partner's death.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Shedler brings to us the absorbing story of a unique emergency response team in a unique setting: the frozen streets of Alaska. Chronicling his time with the Anchorage Community Service Patrol, Shedler relates a series of compelling actual episodes, from life -or- death medical emergencies to dangerous police situations, set against a backdrop of kindness and empathy as the CSP carries on their humanitarian mission to aid the city's indigent and often inebriated street population. As it pays tribute to the CSP's compassionate and dedicated men and women, always forced to do more with less and rarely given the respect or support they deserved, "A Slow Death in the Streets" also raises important moral and public policy questions regarding how we think about and care for our homeless. Brad Selden, M.D., FORMER EMERGENCY PHYSICIAN, ALASKA NATIVE MEDICAL CENTER FORMER MEMBER, ANCHORAGE ALASKA EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES ADIVSORY BOARD This a great read. The memories of so many events was fun & sad at the same time. This is a quick & have to read for any EMS, ER staff. This describes Anchorage during the 1970, 1980 & early 1990's. A great documentary defining a lot of community effort to care for these people. The concept that this is a lifestyle choice is well brought out. Words with many connections; like planets and stars in the universe. Words have a real presence and a grand consistency. And languages. Not of nations, country or region of people; but of people as worked related. A police officer speaks with a language much different from a solicitor, barrister or judge. So different from the everyday Joe and Jane. Doctors, and those within the medical field have another kind. Criminals also have this separate language especially those in organised crime. The mafia drug dealers and suppliers. Street peddlers market stall traders. Stock market traders extricate from all others language, and is embedded with signs. The picture I am trying to paint is of autumn leaves in the fall. Nature colours at their natural best.
