Book Office Organization for the Self Employed

Download or read book Office Organization for the Self Employed written by Lyn O'Keefe and published by . This book was released on 2011-04-01 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The number of people opting to run their own business is higher than ever before. For a number of socio-economic reasons, many graduates (university and trades) are choosing self-employment. With the recent economic downturn, many people have started businesses because they couldn't get work in their fields. The range of services and products being provided by small operators is wide, but all of them have one thing in common: no matter how small the business, its office must be as organized as large offices. The same business practices apply, and those practices must be built into the business from the ground up in order for that business to thrive and grow. But individuals fresh from school (university or otherwise), or those who have worked in offices with established systems in place, are unprepared to set up an office in a professional manner. Based upon research I found, there is a dearth of recent information on the subject. The goal in writing Office Organization for the Self-Employed: Managing Your Office to Increase Your Profits is to provide organizational and office management basics that will allow an entrepreneur, in whatever field, to position him- or herself to grow their business and increase profits.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through case studies of newspaper carriers, rural route mail couriers, personal care workers, and freelance editors - four groups who have led pioneering efforts to organize - the authors provide a window into the ways political and economic conditions interact with class, ethnicity, and gender to shape the meaning and strategies of working men and women and show how these strategies have changed over time. They argue that the experiences of these workers demonstrate a pressing need to expand collective bargaining rights to include them.

Book The Money Book for Freelancers Part Timers and the Self Employed

Download or read book The Money Book for Freelancers Part Timers and the Self Employed written by Joseph D'Agnese and published by Currency. This book was released on 2010-03-02 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book for people like us, and we all know who we are. We make our own hours, keep our own profits, chart our own way. We have things like gigs, contracts, clients, and assignments. All of us are working toward our dreams: doing our own work, on our own time, on our own terms. We have no real boss, no corporate nameplate, no cubicle of our very own. Unfortunately, we also have no 401(k)s and no one matching them, no benefits package, and no one collecting our taxes until April 15th. It’s time to take stock of where you are and where you want to be. Ask yourself: Who is planning for your retirement? Who covers your expenses when clients flake out and checks are late? Who is setting money aside for your taxes? Who is responsible for your health insurance? Take a good look in the mirror: You are. The Money Book for Freelancers, Part-Timers, and the Self-Employed describes a completely new, comprehensive system for earning, spending, saving, and surviving as an independent worker. From interviews with financial experts to anecdotes from real-life freelancers, plus handy charts and graphs to help you visualize key concepts, you’ll learn about topics including: • Managing Cash Flow When the Cash Isn’t Flowing Your Way • Getting Real About What You’re Really Earning • Tools for Getting Out of Debt and Into Financial Security • Saving Consistently When You Earn Irregularly • What To Do When a Client’s Check Doesn’t Come In • Health Savings Accounts and How To Use Them • Planning for Retirement, Taxes and Dreams—All On Your Own

Book Understanding Mobilities for Designing Contemporary Cities

Download or read book Understanding Mobilities for Designing Contemporary Cities written by Paola Pucci and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-08 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores mobilities as a key to understanding the practices that both frame and generate contemporary everyday life in the urban context. At the same time, it investigates the challenges arising from the interpretation of mobility as a socio-spatial phenomenon both in the social sciences and in urban studies. Leading sociologists, economists, urban planners and architects address the ways in which spatial mobilities contribute to producing diversified uses of the city and describe forms and rhythms of different life practices, including unexpected uses and conflicts. The individual sections of the book focus on the role of mobility in transforming contemporary cities; the consequences of interpreting mobility as a socio-spatial phenomenon for urban projects and policies; the conflicts and inequalities generated by the co-presence of different populations due to mobility and by the interests gathered around major mobility projects; and the use of new data and mapping of mobilities to enhance comprehension of cities. The theoretical discussion is complemented by references to practical experiences, helping readers gain a broader understanding of mobilities in relation to the capacity to analyze, plan and design contemporary cities.
