Book Effect of Steady state Pressure Distortion on Inlet Flow to a High bypass ratio Turbofan Engine

Download or read book Effect of Steady state Pressure Distortion on Inlet Flow to a High bypass ratio Turbofan Engine written by Ronald H. Soeder and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experiments were conducted to determine the effects of steady-state circumferential-pressure distortion on inlet flow and internal engine performance of a high-bypass-ratio turbofan engine. To measure these effects, flow-angle, static-pressure, and total-pressure instrumentation was placed between the rotatable distortion-generator assembly and the engine inlet. In addition, both static-pressure and total-pressure were recorded at the fan exit and compressor inlet and exit. Three circumferential screens were separately mounted on the rotatable assembly. For all configurations data were recorded at each of twelve 30 deg increments of assembly rotation. Experiments were conducted with fan speeds (corrected to station 2 temperature) of 80 or 90 percent of rated condition (7005 rpm) and Reynolds number indices of 0.2 or 0.5. Yaw angle increased between the distortion-generating assembly and the engine inlet. A change in Reynolds number index (RNI) has only a slight effect and a change in speed had no effect on yaw angle distribution. The flow angle was largest in the hub region of the engine inlet.

Book Guidelines for Characterization of Gas Turbine Engine Total Pressure Planar Wave and Total Temperature Inlet Flow Distortion

Download or read book Guidelines for Characterization of Gas Turbine Engine Total Pressure Planar Wave and Total Temperature Inlet Flow Distortion written by S-16 Turbine Engine Inlet Flow Distortion Committee and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The turbine-engine-inlet flow distortion descriptors summarized in this document apply to the effects of inlet total-pressure, planar-wave, and total-temperature distortions. Guidelines on stability margin, destabilizing influences, types and purposes of inlet data, AIP definition, and data acquisition and handling are summarized from AIR5866, AIR5867, ARP1420, and AIR1419. The degree to which these recommendations are applied to a specific program should be consistent with the complexity of the inlet/engine integration. Total-pressure distortion is often the predominant destabilizing element that is encountered and is often the only type of distortion to be considered, i.e, not all types of distortion need to be considered for all vehicles. The SAE S-16 Turbine Engine Inlet Flow Distortion Committee has developed an Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) and Aerospace Information Reports (AIR) describing measurement stations and techniques, and descriptors for different types of inlet total-pressure, planar-wave, and total-temperature distortion. There has been broad acceptance of these descriptors by the industry. Although a treatment for swirl distortion has been proposed, no methodology for swirl distortion has gained wide acceptance. When an accepted methodology exists for swirl distortion, this document will be updated to include it. This document provides a single source that contains the recommended measurement stations and techniques, and descriptors for total-pressure, planar-wave, and total-temperature inlet distortion.

Book Effect of Steady State Pressure Distortion on Inlet Flow to a High Bypass Ratio Turbofan Engine

Download or read book Effect of Steady State Pressure Distortion on Inlet Flow to a High Bypass Ratio Turbofan Engine written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-08-14 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Static pressure and total pressure distributions were measured in the inlet duct upstream of the engine inlet and within the fan and compressor of a YTF34 turbofan engine. In addition, the free stream flow angle was measured between the distortion generator and the engine inlet. Distortions were generated using three screen configurations with extents of 90 deg or 180 deg. The screens were mounted on a rotatable screen assembly. Reynolds number index upstream of the distortion device was maintained at 0.5 or 0.2, and engine fan speed corrected to station 2 temperature was maintained at 80 or 90 percent of rated condition (7005 rpm). Flow angle was nearly constant near the distortion device and increased as flow approached the engine inlet. The largest flow angle occurred in the hub region of the engine inlet. Static pressure distortion along the inlet duct increased exponentially as the flow approached the engine. Both static pressure and total pressure distortions were attenuated between engine inlet and compressor exit. Soeder, R. H. and Bobula, G. A. Book Literature Search of Publications Concerning the Prediction of Dynamic Inlet Flow Distortion and Related Topics

Download or read book Literature Search of Publications Concerning the Prediction of Dynamic Inlet Flow Distortion and Related Topics written by William G. Schweikhard and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Publications prior to March 1981 were surveyed to determine inlet flow dynamic distortion prediction methods and to catalog experimental and analytical information concerning inlet flow dynamic distortion prediction methods and to catalog experimental and analytical information concerning inlet flow dynamics at the engine-inlet interface of conventional aircraft (excluding V/STOL). The sixty-five publications found are briefly summarized and tabulated according to topic and are cross-referenced according to content and nature of the investigation (e.g., predictive, experimental, analytical and types of tests). Three appendices include lists of references, authors, organizations and agencies conducting the studies. Also, selected materials summaries, introductions and conclusions - from the reports are included. Few reports were found covering methods for predicting the probable maximum distortion. The three predictive methods found are those of Melick, Jacox and Motycka. The latter two require extensive high response pressure measurements at the compressor face, while the Melick Technique can function with as few as one or two measurements.
