Book Standardized Human Olfactory Thresholds

Download or read book Standardized Human Olfactory Thresholds written by M. Devos and published by IRL Press. This book was released on 1990 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a homogeneous inventory of weighted and averaged human olfactory thresholds for hundreds of chemicals. Until now data on olfactory thresholds has not been standardized and different values have been scattered throughout the literature. The authors have gathered together threshold values and have used a systematic approach to standardization, collecting masses of data from a wide variety of sources to arrive at a standard threshold value for each chemical. A short explanation of the mathematical methods used by the authors is given, while the bulk of the book is taken up by the table of values. This is a comprehensive reference for scientists working in chemoreception, zoology, food science, government health regulation, and others for whom it is important to measure levels of air-borne chemicals.

Book Acute Exposure Guideline Levels for Selected Airborne Chemicals

Download or read book Acute Exposure Guideline Levels for Selected Airborne Chemicals written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2012-05-24 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extremely hazardous substances (EHSs) can be released accidentally as a result of chemical spills, industrial explosions, fires, or accidents involving railroad cars and trucks transporting EHSs. Workers and residents in communities surrounding industrial facilities where EHSs are manufactured, used, or stored and in communities along the nation's railways and highways are potentially at risk of being exposed to airborne EHSs during accidental releases or intentional releases by terrorists. Using the 1993 and 2001 NRC guidelines reports, the National Advisory Committee - consisting of members from the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, the Department of Transportation, other federal and state governments, the chemical industry, academia, and other organizations form the private sector has developed Acute Exposure Guideline Levels (AEGL) for more than 270 EHSs. In 1998, the EPA and DOD requested that the NRC independently reviewed the AEGLs developed by the NAC. In response to that request, the NRC organized within its Committee on Toxicology the Committee on Acute Exposure Guideline Levels, which prepared this report, Acute Exposure Guideline Levels for Selected Airborne Chemicals: Volume 12. This report explains the scientifically valid conclusions that are based on the data reviewed by NAC and consistent with the NRC guideline reports and provides comments and recommendations for how AEGL could be improved.

Book Patty s Toxicology 6 Volume Set

Download or read book Patty s Toxicology 6 Volume Set written by Eula Bingham and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-07-31 with total page 5872 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Featuring the improved format used in the 5th edition, this updated set presents, in logical groupings, comprehensive toxicological data for industrial compounds, including CAS numbers, physical and chemical properties, exposure limits, and biological tolerance values for occupational exposures, making it essential for toxicologists and industrial hygienists. This edition has about 40% new authors who have brought a new and international perspective to interpreting industrial toxicology, and discusses new subjects such as nanotechnology, flavorings and the food industry, reactive chemical control to comprehensive chemical policy, metalworking fluids, and pharmaceuticals.

Book Acute Exposure Guideline Levels for Selected Airborne Chemicals

Download or read book Acute Exposure Guideline Levels for Selected Airborne Chemicals written by Committee on Acute Exposure Guideline Levels and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2013-10-10 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Acute Exposure Guideline Levels for Selected Airborne Chemicals, Volume 15 identifies, reviews, and interprets relevant toxicologic and other scientific data for ethyl mercaptan, methyl mercaptan, phenyl mercaptan, tert-octyl mercaptan, lewisite, methyl isothiocyanate, and selected monoisocyanates in order to develop acute exposure guideline levels (AEGLs) for these high-priority, acutely toxic chemicals. AEGLs represent threshold exposure limits (exposure levels below which adverse health effects are not likely to occur) for the general public and are applicable to emergency exposures ranging from 10 minutes (min) to 8 h. Three level--AEGL-1, AEGL-2, and AEGL-3--are developed for each of five exposure periods (10 min, 30 min, 1 h, 4 h, and 8 h) and are distinguished by varying degrees of severity of toxic effects. This report will inform planning, response, and prevention in the community, the workplace, transportation, the military, and the remediation of Superfund sites.

Download or read book Indoor Air Quality written by Dikaia E. Saraga and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-12-07 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The monitoring of indoor air pollutants in a spatio-temporal basis is challenging. A key element is the access to local (i.e., indoor residential, workplace, or public building) exposure measurements. Unfortunately, the high cost and complexity of most current air pollutant monitors result in a lack of detailed spatial and temporal resolution. As a result, individuals in vulnerable groups (children, pregnant, elderly, and sick people) have little insight into their personal exposure levels. This becomes significant in cases of hyper-local variations and short-term pollution events such as instant indoor activity (e.g., cooking, smoking, and dust resuspension). Advances in sensor miniaturization have encouraged the development of small, inexpensive devices capable of estimating pollutant concentrations. This new class of sensors presents new possibilities for indoor exposure monitoring. This Special Issue invites research in the areas of the triptych: indoor air pollution monitoring, indoor air modeling, and exposure to indoor air pollution. Topics of interest for the Special Issue include, but are not limited to, the following: low-cost sensors for indoor air monitoring; indoor particulate matter and volatile organic compounds; ozone-terpene chemistry; biological agents indoors; source apportionment; exposure assessment; health effects of indoor air pollutants; occupant perception; climate change impacts on indoor air quality.
