Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an African story of a young black caretaker and the white twin boys in his care and the circumstances and courage that took them to hell and back. Unlike many other books covering the South African Angolan Bush War, the novel Until We Meet Again is the story of April and the twin boys Mark and Andy. The novel will take them on an adventure of survival and courage that will test their love and camaraderie for one another during a time when the divide between black and white in South Africa was controlled by dark forces. The novel is about the everyday lives of the two South African families during the 1960s and 70s when the country was under attack from the Pan African Congress’s Poqo army. April would soon find him in a struggle between his own prospects for a better life for himself and his family, but cannot relinquish his responsibilities to care for the two siblings, which left him with difficult decisions to make which would test his courage to its limits. April became a seasoned freedom fighter and one of the most wanted terrorists in South Africa, while the twins innocently landed themselves in an adventure that had turned into a life-threatening situation that they never dreamed of before. The story will take the reader from the tranquil mountains and rivers of the Eastern Cape to the war-torn Angolan desert where one of the most controversial cold war armed conflicts fuelled by the Americans and Russians would play off and end in a stalemate.

Book excerpt: This book will be entertaining, which is what it was intended to be. To some, it may even be offensive, but it is the story of a man that actually existed; a man of great courage and few resources, a man who protected and loved his family in the midst of great human challenges. This book will let you become acquainted with an unusual man who possessed an uncanny sense of impending danger; a gift that allowed him to see the other man's character weaknesses in time to arm himself with the necessary armor needed for the moment. Excluding a few words in the beginning chapters of the book, to make the story interesting, ninety- five percent of this book is true, as told to the author by his father, his aunt, and his uncles. Many stories were also supplied by the author's mother and many other family members.

An attractive and skilled fraud investigator from Mauritius finds herself working closely, perhaps too closely, with a charming but discredited banker from California and a Zairian lawyer with intriguing skills. The overnight disappearance of hospitalized infants and the flourishing clandestine market in coffee, valuable minerals and ores along the eastern frontier of the country, gradually coalesce to form an ugly puzzle. After government secrets are revealed by the investigators, a suicide thrusts the American to the top position of the African bank where he has been given asylum. The number of abducted infants grows, promising developments appear to bring hope, cruel events turn upon them, and unexpected moves by three powerful women working behind the scenes change everything.

Book Zionism and the Fin de Siecle

Download or read book Zionism and the Fin de Siecle written by Michael Stanislawski and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2023-11-10 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Michael Stanislawski's provocative study of Max Nordau, Ephraim Moses Lilien, and Vladimir Jabotinsky reconceives the intersection of the European fin de siècle and early Zionism. Stanislawski takes up the tantalizing question of why Zionism, at a particular stage in its development, became so attractive to certain cosmopolitan intellectuals and artists. With the help of hundreds of previously unavailable documents, published and unpublished, he reconstructs the ideological journeys of writer and critic Nordau, artist Lilien, and political icon Jabotinsky. He argues against the common conception of Nordau and Jabotinsky as nineteenth-century liberals, insisting that they must be understood against the backdrop of Social Darwinism in the West and the Positivism of Russian radicalism in the fin de siècle, as well as Symbolism, Decadence, and Art Nouveau. When these men turned to Zionism, Stanislawski says, far from abandoning their aesthetic and intellectual preconceptions, they molded Zionism according to their fin de siècle cosmopolitanism. Showing how cosmopolitanism turned to nationalism in the lives and work of these crucial early Zionists, this story is a fascinating chapter in European and Russian, as well as Jewish, cultural and political history.

Book Flight MH17 Ukraine and the new Cold War

Download or read book Flight MH17 Ukraine and the new Cold War written by Kees van der Pijl and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2018-07-24 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On 17 July 2014 Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 was shot down amid conflict in Ukraine, a crisis that led to a NATO-Russia standoff and the onset of a new period of East-West confrontation. This is the first scholarly work on the Ukrainian unrest and the tragic downing of MH17. It offers an analysis that challenges the Western consensus surrounding these events, emphasising the geopolitical and economic context of the West’s standoff with Russia, the BRICS bloc, and the struggles over the EU’s energy supply. Based on previously unpublished government and NATO documents as well as a wide array of sources this book offers an analysis of global political economy and contemporary debates about Russia and East-West relations.
