Book excerpt: This paper presents oceanographic observations from Hamilton Bank on the Southern Labrador Shelf to the Southern Grand Bank on the Newfoundland Shelf during 1999, referenced to their long-term (1961-90) means. Information presented (temperature & salinity profiles, bottom temperature, currents) is based on observations made at Station 27 throughout the year and standard cross-shelf transect data obtained during an annual oceanographic survey in July & August. Temperature data from three Long-Term Temperature Monitoring Program sites in the inshore regions of Newfoundland are also used. In addition, oceanographic observations made during the spring & fall pelagic & groundfish research vessel surveys from the late 1970s to 1999 from southern Labrador to southern Newfoundland are included. Data from all available sources are used to help define the long-term means & conditions during 1999.
