Download or read book Geology and Platinum group element Mineralization of Alaskan type Ultramafic mafic Complexes in British Columbia written by Graham Tom Nixon and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alaskan-type ultramafic-mafic complexes in British Columbia are potential hosts for commercially exploitable deposits of platinum group elements (PGEs). Such complexes are named for a distinctive suite of intrusions distributed along a narrow, northerly trending belt 600 kilometres long in south-eastern Alaska. All Alaskan-type complexes in British Columbia lie within the allochthonous terranes of the Intermontane Belt that were amalgamated and accreted to the cratonic margin of ancestral North America in the Mesozoic. This report examines the geology and PGE/noble metal geochemistry of eight specific complexes, providing information on regional geology and geochronology, structure, metamorphism, petrography, geochemistry, and mineralization. It then discusses PGE mineralization, using the Tulameen Complex and associated placers as a case study, and examines the economic potential of the complexes and their magmatic and tectonic settings.
Download or read book Ore Deposits Tectonics and Metallogeny in the Canadian Cordillera written by W. J. McMillan and published by Province of British Columbia, Mineral Resources Division. This book was released on 1991 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report provides a tectonic and mineral deposit overview, then discusses deposits in North American rocks, followed by deposits formed in accreted and suspect' terrains; deposits formed at or near the sea floor or from hot springs; and those formed in successively deeper zones as magmatic deposits, vein to replacement deposits, skarns, and porphyries. Deposits within and directly linked to intrusive rocks (magmatic, porphyries, skarns), replacement deposits, possible manto deposits, deep to shallow veins and related deposits formed at the surface, volcanogenic massive sulphides and sedex deposits are then discussed. Sedimentary-hosted deposits of gypsum, barite, phosphate and other industrial minerals are not covered, nor are coal, uranium, pegmatite-hosted deposits, molybdenum prophyries or some of the less common deposit types such as carbonatites, tin greisens, and placers.

Download or read book Distribution and Behaviour of Platinum in Soils of the Tulameen Ultramafic Complex Southern British Columbia written by Stephen John Cook and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geochemical exploration for chromitite-associated platinum deposits is hampered by a poor understanding of the distribution and behaviour of platinum in the surficial environment. This study investigates platinum content, residence sites, and mineralogy of soils developed on till and colluvium above the Tulameen Ultramafic Complex in southern British Columbia. Samples were taken of 76 soil profiles, sediments, bogs, and water above the dunite core of the Tulameen Complex. Platinum content of the -70-mesh fraction of soils and sediments was determined by fire assay-inductively coupled plasma spectrometry. Samples from 14 selected profiles were then examined in detail to determine platinum mineralogy and its distribution between different size, density, and magnetic fractions.

Ettlinger and published by Province of British Columbia, Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources, Geological Survey Branch. This book was released on 1989 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the well-documented 60-year history of major gold production from the world-class Nickel Plate mine in B.C., precious metal enriched (PME) skarns have only recently been recognized as a distinct class of skarn deposit. This paper is the result of studies that involved geological mapping of some selected skarn camps, extensive literature research and various laboratory studies, including whole-rock and trace element analyses, petrographic examination of sulphide and calc-silicate assemblages, and electron microprobe analyses of various garnet and pyroxene mineral phases associated with the skarn alteration. The report gives relevant data on the proven and potential PME skarns in B.C. and outlines their various characteristics, including distribution, mineralogy, geochemistry, geological controls and classification.
