Book The State of Occupational Safety and Health in the European Union

Download or read book The State of Occupational Safety and Health in the European Union written by European Agency for Safety and Health at Work and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The European Agency information project "The State of Occupational Safety and Health in the European Union - Pilot Study" is a first step to the development of a system for monitoring safety and health in the European Union. It aims at providing decision-makers at Member State and European level with an overview of the current safety and health situation in the European Union to support the identification of common challenges and priority areas for preventive actions. The project report identifies sectors/occupations most identified to be at risk to. The risks are categorised as physical exposures, posture and movement exposures, handling chemicals and psycho-social working conditions. The context of work and the occupational safety and health outcome were also given. Focal Points (Authorities nominated by each Member State) provided information on trends and needs for the development of additional preventive actions related to these risks. Emerging risks were identified as change in work organisation, stress, manual handling, use of new chemicals, violence and repetitive strain. Workers under the age of 18, older workers and workers in health and social work were identified as sensitive work groups. A CD-ROM (contents: Consolidated Report; National Reports and the Manual) is included with this publication.

Book Occupational Health Services

Download or read book Occupational Health Services written by Jorma Rantanen and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is based on a survey of 32 Member States by the WHO Regional Office for Europe that began in 1983 and was completed in 1985. Information was collected from the countries' replies and from recent publications describing occupational health services in 21 countries. The survey clearly indicated the need to develop statistical and recording systems for these services in countries. Further, occupational health services in Europe are difficult to characterize as an entity because they vary remarkably widely between and within countries. Although occupational health services are better developed in the European Region than elsewhere, about 100 million workers in the Region still do their jobs with no services at all and another 100 million are covered by services that barely meet the ILO and WHO standards. In particular, some groups are seriously underserved.
