Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With three million intoxications a year, global concern about occupational exposure to pesticides makes it crucial that occupational health professionals be able monitor pesticide exposure. With a useful analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of classic and modern techniques, Occupational Hazards of Pesticide Exposure permits professionals to undertake these tasks with techniques best suited to a given situation. Includes descriptions and examples of how to: o Quantify aerial drift of pesticide sprays o Determine on-target/off-target loss of pesticide o Measure disposition of pesticides on surfaces o Detect translocation of residues for air and surfaces to skin o Measure absorption through the skin o Quantify residues or metabolites in biological fluids o Determine the extent of neurological impairment

Book Occupational and Residential Exposure Assessment for Pesticides

Download or read book Occupational and Residential Exposure Assessment for Pesticides written by Claire A. Franklin and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2005-04-08 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This timely publication concentrates on the exposure to pesticides by agricultural workers and residential users of pesticides through inhalation and physical contact. The book discusses more recently discovered risks such as pesticides on indoor carpets and includes new trends in data interpretation. Occupational & Residential Exposure Assessment for Pesticides complements the other title on pesticide exposure in the series - Pesticide Residues in Drinking Water, by Hamilton/Crossley and is a must for all professionals in the Pesticide Industry as well as academics.

Book Pesticides in the Diets of Infants and Children

Download or read book Pesticides in the Diets of Infants and Children written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1993-02-01 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many of the pesticides applied to food crops in this country are present in foods and may pose risks to human health. Current regulations are intended to protect the health of the general population by controlling pesticide use. This book explores whether the present regulatory approaches adequately protect infants and children, who may differ from adults in susceptibility and in dietary exposures to pesticide residues. The committee focuses on four major areas: Susceptibility: Are children more susceptible or less susceptible than adults to the effects of dietary exposure to pesticides? Exposure: What foods do infants and children eat, and which pesticides and how much of them are present in those foods? Is the current information on consumption and residues adequate to estimate exposure? Toxicity: Are toxicity tests in laboratory animals adequate to predict toxicity in human infants and children? Do the extent and type of toxicity of some chemicals vary by species and by age? Assessing risk: How is dietary exposure to pesticide residues associated with response? How can laboratory data on lifetime exposures of animals be used to derive meaningful estimates of risk to children? Does risk accumulate more rapidly during the early years of life? This book will be of interest to policymakers, administrators of research in the public and private sectors, toxicologists, pediatricians and other health professionals, and the pesticide industry.

Book Occupational Hazards of Pesticide Use

Download or read book Occupational Hazards of Pesticide Use written by Graham J. Turnbull and published by Taylor & Francis Group. This book was released on 1985 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: This book is a compendium of information written by a group of experts addressing all aspects of pesticide exposure. Topics covered are pesticide safety, measurement of occupational exposure to pesticides, exposure and health in developed and developing countries, regulations, trends and future needs. Tables present measurements of dermal and respiratory exposure to liquid or solid formulated pesticides while loading or diluting, while applying upward or downward directed spray or dust using tractor mounted equipment, while using knapsack sprayers or other hand-held equipment indoors or outdoors or during aerial pesticide application.

Book Human Toxicology of Pesticides

Download or read book Human Toxicology of Pesticides written by Fina P. Kaloyanova and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-06-04 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First Published in 1991, this book conducts a systematic analysis of existing information regarding the toxicological effects of pesticides on humans. The book identifies the negative health effects related to exposure to pesticides and the biological changes required to undertake biological monitoring. The book also discusses the importance and magnitude of the problem for different kinds of pesticide applications in different parts of the world, explains the toxicodynamics and clinical picture of acute and chronic intoxications resulting from exposure to different groups of pesticides and selected individual substances, and evaluates existing methods and limitations for assessing human exposure to pesticides. Pesticide manufacturers, occupational health professionals, epidemiologists, environmentalists, government agencies and others concerned with the effects of pesticides on human populations should consider this book essential reading.

Book Pesticides in Crop Production

Download or read book Pesticides in Crop Production written by Prabhat Kumar Srivastava and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-04-27 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A guide to the diversity of pesticides used in modern agricultural practices, and the relevant social and environmental issues Pesticides in Crop Production offers an important resource that explores pesticide action in plants; pesticide metabolism in soil microbes, plants and animals; bioaccumulation of pesticides and sensitiveness of microbiome towards pesticides. The authors explore pesticide risk assessment, the development of pesticide resistance in pests, microbial remediation of pesticide intoxicated legumes and pesticide toxicity amelioration in plants by plant hormones. The authors include information on eco-friendly pest management. They review the impact of pesticides on soil microorganism, crops and other plants along with the impact on other organisms like aquatic fauna and terrestrial animals including human beings. The book also contains an analysis of pesticide by GC-MS/MS (Gas Chromatography tandem Mass Spectrometry) a reliable method for the quantification and confirmation of multiclass pesticide residues. This important book: Offers a comprehensive guide to the use of the diversity of pesticides and the pertinent social and environmental issues Explores the impact of pesticides from morphological, anatomical, physiological and biochemical perspectives Shows how pesticides affects soil microorganisms, crops and other plants along with the impact on other organisms like aquatic fauna and animals Critically examines whether chemical pesticides are boon or bane and whether they can be replaced by environmental friendly pesticides Written for students, researchers and professionals in agriculture, botany, entomology and biotechnology, Pesticides in Crop Production examines the effects of chemical pesticides and the feasibility of using bio-pesticides.
