This book was released on 2015-07-11 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Observations on Some of the Most Frequent and Important Diseases of the Heart; On Aneurism of the Thoracic Aorta; On Preternatural Pulsation in the Epigastric Region Gentlemen, There are none to whom I could with equal propriety inscribe the following Observations on the Diseases of the Heart, as to you to whom they were originally addressed, and for whose use they are now chiefly made public. In Lecturing on this subject, I noticed, that although many detached Works have been published on particular affections of the Heart, still no treatise has yet appeared, presenting a connected view of the causes and consequences, of the various Diseases to which this most important organ is liable. These considerations, in the first instance, led me to pay some attention to this subject; and the same considerations, have now induced me to make the result of my inquiries public. By adopting a clinical-radiological approach and offering a comprehensive differential diagnosis for a number of painful syndromes (many of which can mimic one other), the work aims to support and enhance the diagnostic management of these patients, suggesting the most appropriate diagnostic algorithm. Further, the book includes extensive electronic supplementary material. As such, it offers an invaluable tool for radiologists, neuroradiologists and clinicians working in internal medicine, surgery and neurology, and could also be used in residency programs for these groups.

Book Management of Abdominal Hernias

Download or read book Management of Abdominal Hernias written by Andrew N Kingsnorth and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-01-30 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hernia repair is one of the commonest operations in general surgery. Open or laparoscopic repair of a primary inguinal hernia is a relatively straightforward operation, but more complex abdominal wall hernias demand greater surgical skill and knowledge. The editors have assembled the world's top herniologists to describe and illustrate numerous surgical techniques in detail. The field of herniology has developed rapidly over the last few years. Since the previous edition of this book, published in 2003, new surgical techniques have been developed and many new prosthetic and biologic materials have been introduced. Management of Abdominal Hernias 4e presents an authoritative, comprehensive and fully updated account of the surgical techniques and the available prosthetic materials for performing repair of abdominal wall hernias. Both open and laparoscopic methods are included. It is aimed at general and specialist surgeons in the practice of clinical surgery, as well as trainee surgeons.

Book Doctors

Download or read book Doctors written by Sherwin B. Nuland and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2011-10-19 with total page 547 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the author of How We Die, the extraordinary story of the development of modern medicine, told through the lives of the physician-scientists who paved the way. How does medical science advance? Popular historians would have us believe that a few heroic individuals, possessing superhuman talents, lead an unselfish quest to better the human condition. But as renowned Yale surgeon and medical historian Sherwin B. Nuland shows in this brilliant collection of linked life portraits, the theory bears little resemblance to the truth. Through the centuries, the men and women who have shaped the world of medicine have been not only very human, but also very much the products of their own times and places. Presenting compelling studies of great medical innovators and pioneers, Doctors gives us a fascinating history of modern medicine. Ranging from the legendary Father of Medicine, Hippocrates, to Andreas Vesalius, whose Renaissance masterwork on anatomy offered invaluable new insight into the human body, to Helen Taussig, founder of pediatric cardiology and co-inventor of the original "blue baby" operation, here is a volume filled with the spirit of ideas and the thrill of discovery.
