Book Object Oriented Technologies Opportunities and Challenges

Download or read book Object Oriented Technologies Opportunities and Challenges written by Gibson, Rick and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 1999-07-01 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The continual evolution of object oriented technologies creates both opportunities and challenges. However, despite the growing popularity of object oriented technology, there are numerous issues that have contributed to its inability to firmly entrench itself and take over for the older, proven technologies. Object oriented technology's image problem has created a highly difficult decision making process for corporations considering widespread adoption of these technologies. Object Oriented Technologies: Opportunities and Challenges addresses concerns, opportunities and technology trends in the application of object oriented technologies. The chapters of this book were selected to represent a variety of perspectives concerning the present and future of this broad sub-field of software development.

Book Object oriented Software for Manufacturing Systems

Download or read book Object oriented Software for Manufacturing Systems written by S. Adiga and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I must confess that I stumbled upon the object-oriented (00) world view during my explorations into the world of artificial intelligence (AI) in search of a new solution to the problem of building computer-integrated manufacturing systems (CIM). In 00 computing, I found the constructs to model the manufacturing enterprise in terms of information, a resource that is common to all activities in an organization. It offered a level of modularity, and the coupling/binding neces sary for fostering integration without placing undue restrictions on what the individual applications can do. The implications of 00 computing are more extensive than just being a vehicle for manufacturing applications. Leaders in the field such as Brad Cox see it introducing a paradigm shift that will change our world gradually, but as radically as the Industrial Revolution changed manufacturing. However, it must be borne in mind that simply using an object-oriented language or environment does not, in itself, ensure success in one's applications. It requires a different way of thinking, design discipline, techniques, and tools to exploit what the technology has to offer. In other words, it calls for a paradigm shift (as defined by Kuhn in The Structure of Scientific Revolution, a classic text in the history of science).

Book Object Oriented Technology and Computing Systems Re Engineering

Download or read book Object Oriented Technology and Computing Systems Re Engineering written by H. S. M. Zedan and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1999-10-01 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book delivers the latest developments in object technology and their impact in computing systems re-engineering. Object-oriented programming is here shown to provide support for constructing large scale systems that are cheaply built and with reusable components, adaptable to changing requirements and use efficient and cost-effective techniques.Internationally recognised authorities from Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, the UK and the USA here record their research and development work on the industrial techniques and structured object-oriented methodologies in forward and reverse engineering of computing systems. This book takes stock of progress of that work showing its promise and feasibility, and how its structured technology can overcome the limitations of forward engineering methods used in industry. Forward methods are focused in the domain of reverse engineering to implement a high level of specification for existing software. The book contains the selected, quintessential content of the first UK Colloquium on Object Technology and Systems Re-Engineering held at Oxford University in 1998. The conference was sponsored by British Telecom Laboratories, EMSI limited and the OOSP Specialised Group of The British Computer Society. - Delivers the latest developments in object technology and their impact in computing systems re-engineering - Provides support for constructing large scale systems that are cheaply built and with reusable components, adaptable to changing requirements and use efficient and cost-effective techniques - Contains the content of the first UK Colloquium on Object Technology and Systems Re-Engineering held at Oxford University in 1998

Computer Science Workbench represents an important new contribution in the field of practical computer technology. Tosiyasu L. Kunii Preface The goal of this book is to give concrete answers to questions such as what object oriented databases are, why they are needed, how they are implemented, and how they are applied, by describing a research prototype object-oriented database system called Jasmine. That is, this book is aimed at creating a consistent view to object-oriented databases. The contents of this book are directly based on the results of the Jasmine project conducted at Fujitsu Laboratories, Ltd. The book is a polished version of my doctoral dissertation, which includes research papers which I have authored and published.

Book excerpt: Object-Oriented Design with Applications has long been the essential reference to object-oriented technology, which, in turn, has evolved to join the mainstream of industrial-strength software development. In this third edition--the first revision in 13 years--readers can learn to apply object-oriented methods using new paradigms such as Java, the Unified Modeling Language (UML) 2.0, and .NET. The authors draw upon their rich and varied experience to offer improved methods for object development and numerous examples that tackle the complex problems faced by software engineers, including systems architecture, data acquisition, cryptoanalysis, control systems, and Web development. They illustrate essential concepts, explain the method, and show successful applications in a variety of fields. You'll also find pragmatic advice on a host of issues, including classification, implementation strategies, and cost-effective project management. New to this new edition are An introduction to the new UML 2.0, from the notation's most fundamental and advanced elements with an emphasis on key changes New domains and contexts A greatly enhanced focus on modeling--as eagerly requested by readers--with five chapters that each delve into one phase of the overall development lifecycle. Fresh approaches to reasoning about complex systems An examination of the conceptual foundation of the widely misunderstood fundamental elements of the object model, such as abstraction, encapsulation, modularity, and hierarchy How to allocate the resources of a team of developers and mange the risks associated with developing complex software systems An appendix on object-oriented programming languages This is the seminal text for anyone who wishes to use object-oriented technology to manage the complexity inherent in many kinds of systems. Book Object Oriented Application Development Using the Cach Postrelational Database

Download or read book Object Oriented Application Development Using the Cach Postrelational Database written by Wolfgang Kirsten and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nowadays, newly developed software packages are often obsolete already at the time of their introduction. Object-oriented software development is a possible—if not the only—solution to this dilemma: applications are modeled as software objects that describe the properties and the behavior of real-world entities. Such objects are encapsulated, in that they hide—behind a publicly known interface—the complexity of their internal data structures and behaviors. This enables objects to be used in a wide range of program packages without needing to know the details of their internal implementation. Linking object-oriented modeled applications with a database places special demands on a database management system and development environment when the usual performance and semantics losses are to be avoided. This book provides a detailed description of the object model of the Caché postrelational database. This second, revised and expanded edition includes the many new features of Caché 5. There is a comprehensive description of the new Caché Studio with its improvements for developing and debugging applications as well as a whole new chapter about XML and SOAP based Web Services. The chapters about Java, ActiveX and the SQL manager have undergone a complete revision.
