Book Advances in Distributed Systems

Download or read book Advances in Distributed Systems written by Sacha Krakowiak and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-06-26 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1992 we initiated a research project on large scale distributed computing systems (LSDCS). It was a collaborative project involving research institutes and universities in Bologna, Grenoble, Lausanne, Lisbon, Rennes, Rocquencourt, Newcastle, and Twente. The World Wide Web had recently been developed at CERN, but its use was not yet as common place as it is today and graphical browsers had yet to be developed. It was clear to us (and to just about everyone else) that LSDCS comprising several thousands to millions of individual computer systems (nodes) would be coming into existence as a consequence both of technological advances and the demands placed by applications. We were excited about the problems of building large distributed systems, and felt that serious rethinking of many of the existing computational paradigms, algorithms, and structuring principles for distributed computing was called for. In our research proposal, we summarized the problem domain as follows: “We expect LSDCS to exhibit great diversity of node and communications capability. Nodes will range from (mobile) laptop computers, workstations to supercomputers. Whereas mobile computers may well have unreliable, low bandwidth communications to the rest of the system, other parts of the system may well possess high bandwidth communications capability. To appreciate the problems posed by the sheer scale of a system comprising thousands of nodes, we observe that such systems will be rarely functioning in their entirety.

Book GRID AND CLUSTER COMPUTING

Download or read book GRID AND CLUSTER COMPUTING written by C. S. R. PRABHU and published by PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.. This book was released on 2008-02-14 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grid Computing and Cluster Computing are advanced topics and latest trends in computer science that find a place in the computer science and information technology curricula of many engineering institutes and universities today. Divided into two parts—Part I, Grid Computing and Part II, Cluster Computing—, this compact and concise text strives to make the concepts of grid computing and cluster computing comprehensible to the students through its fine presentation and accessible style. Part I of the book enables the student not only to understand the concepts involved in grid computing but also to build their own grids for specific applications. Similarly, as today supercomputers are being built using cluster computing architectures, Part II provides an insight into the basic principles involved in cluster computing and equips the readers with the knowledge to build their own clusters in-house. Diagrams are used to illustrate the concepts discussed and to enable the reader to actually construct a grid or a cluster himself. The book is intended as a text for undergraduate and postgraduate students of computer science and engineering, information technology (B.Tech./M.Tech. Computer Science and Engineering/IT), and post-graduate students of computer science/information technology (M.Sc. Computer Science and M.Sc. IT). Besides, practising engineers and computer science professionals should find the text very useful.

Book Computational Intelligence in Telecommunications Networks

Download or read book Computational Intelligence in Telecommunications Networks written by Witold Pedrycz and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-03 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Telecommunications has evolved and grown at an explosive rate in recent years and will undoubtedly continue to do so. As its functions, applications, and technology grow, it becomes increasingly complex and difficult, if not impossible, to meet the demands of a global network using conventional computing technologies. Computational intelligence (CI) is the technology of the future-and the future is now. Computational Intelligence in Telecommunications Networks offers an in-depth look at the rapid progress of CI technology and shows its importance in solving the crucial problems of future telecommunications networks. It covers a broad range of topics, from Call Admission Control, congestion control, and QoS-routing for ATM networks, to network design and management, optical, mobile, and active networks, and Intelligent Mobile Agents. Today's telecommunications professionals need a working knowledge of CI to exploit its potential to overcome emerging challenges. The CI community must become acquainted with those challenges to take advantage of the enormous opportunities the telecommunications field offers. This text meets both those needs, clearly, concisely, and with a depth certain to inspire further theoretical and practical advances.
