Book Education for Innovation and Independent Learning

Download or read book Education for Innovation and Independent Learning written by Ronaldo Mota and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-01-24 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our principal concern in this book is to understand three important ideas: learning, technology and innovation, and to examine these ideas and the relationships between them in situ; that is, we examine a number of cases of learning technologies in action in two countries, England and Brazil. The purpose of our study is to provide an explanation of the means to, and constraints on, improvements to educational policies and practices, with particular reference to innovation. We have a plethora of theoretical models that in attempting to deal with causal relations usually come to the conclusion that there are socio-economic-cultural constraints, but these observations largely remain at an abstract level and/or come to very general conclusions that are not of particular help to practitioners in the field. These issues can only be properly addressed after examining the empirical reality and having a spectrum of cases to analyze. By combining the theoretical and the practical, our aim is to explain how and under what conditions new modes of learning can be put into practice successfully and sustainably, in order for the learner to develop innovatory skills and dispositions for work and in the life course.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost 100 years have passed since the Union of Neptu united the people of the planet. But Cat, the Neptian computer, predicts an imminent attack by the Qhan, a reptilian race, under their self-appointed god Qhatan and the Empire of a Thousand Planets. Neptu and the Qhan home planet, Zhra, are connected by a star gate that has long been sealed, but the despotic Qhatan will stop at nothing to open it again, draining both his resources and his people. When young psychic Joran of Zhra contacts Cat after Qhatan brutally terminates his father, Cat foresees a way to stop their predicted invasion. He reawakens Jalath the Sorcerer to help the young Zoltan develop his psychic powers, a force against Qhatan, and lead a mass exodus to Earth, which has recovered from nuclear holocaust. Meanwhile, on Zhra, Joran seeks to liberate his people, but Qhatan’s minions stalk him in Zhra’s subterranean tunnels, and as Jalath travels the states of Neptu looking for candidates to establish a new colony on Earth, a group of zealots will stop at nothing to discredit Jalath’s knowledge and work. The third book in the Devistor series, The Empire of a Thousand Planets plunges readers once again into Jefferson’s deeply sophisticated universe, only to find it balancing on the edge of a knife.

There has been an impressive growth in the conceptual, empirical and experiential foundations of the field. Trends and Issues in Distance Education: International Perspectives (2nd Ed) captures a representative snapshot of the breadth of current global trends and issues in distance education theory, research, and practice. Through 21 chapters (from over 30 international authors), the book documents new developments in distance education scholarship and practice, presenting a diverse set of viewpoints on the trends and issues affecting this increasingly central discipline. Impoverished gangs rise up, challenging the rich and powerful, slaughtering soldiers in the streets, but the revolution isn't limited to humanity. Unable to deny the truth any longer, the Demon Queen orders the execution of Lamenica, the traitorous succubus who oversaw all demonic activities in Derregain during Plaguebringer's rise. Book Global Portuguese

Download or read book Global Portuguese written by Luiz Paulo Moita-Lopes and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-12-17 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims at deconstructing and problematizing linguistic ideologies related to Portuguese in late modernity and questioning the theoretical presuppositions which have led us to call Portuguese ‘a language.’ Such an endeavor is crucial when we know that Portuguese is a language which is increasingly internationalized, used as the official language in four continents (in ten countries) and which has come to play a relevant role in the so-called linguistic market on the basis of the geopolitical transformations in a multipolar world. The book covers a wide range of social, political and historical contexts in which ‘Portuguese’ is used (in Brazil, Canada, East-Timor, England, Portugal, Mozambique and Uruguay), and considers diverse linguistic practices. Through this critique, contributors chart new directions for research on language ideologies and language practices (including research related to Portuguese and to other ‘languages’) and consider ways of developing new conceptual compasses that are better attuned to the sociolinguistic realities of the late modern era, in which people, texts and languages are increasingly in movement through national borders and those of digital networks of communication.

Book excerpt: "Maracatu Atômico" is the first academic work to investigate the mangue movement, one of Brazil's most vital pop culture trends of the last thirty years, and the related "new music scene" of Northeast Brazil. Contending with the widespread poverty and social problems, mangue places a renewed value on the local environment and its myriad folk traditions while embracing modern, global pop influences and technology. The book provides historical and ethnographic accounts of the movement, analyzes salient examples of folk and pop fusion music, and enters recent debates about postmodernity, globalization, and "world music" in an attempt to understand better how local musicians in one "Third World" region interact within a more global cultural system.

This book was released on 2021-08-09 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book fills a critical gap in a neglected area in current educational research: international teacher education. It focuses on the preparation of teachers of English as an additional language (EAL) in several world regions. The book consists of chapters by researchers in well-established teacher education programs in 11 countries: Brazil, Canada, China, Finland, Greece, New Zealand, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Turkey and the United States of America. It takes a cross-national, comparative approach around four major focus areas: policy, research, curriculum and practice, offering critical implications that can help improve EAL teacher education programs in different parts of the world. Teacher education is an area that has great potential for international cross-pollination of ideas and actions, and this book represents an important first step along this road.
