Book Poverty Money and Ecology as Pillars of Pope Francis Pontificate 2013 2019

Download or read book Poverty Money and Ecology as Pillars of Pope Francis Pontificate 2013 2019 written by Pablo Alberto Baisotti and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2021-11-01 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will deal with arguments that analyze the Vatican policies of Francis, during the first seven years of his pontificate, in relation to some of the most urgent questions concerning humanity: migrants and refugees, the economy, and ecology. The logical choice of the time period for this work is given by Jorge Bergoglio's ascent to the "chair of St. Peter" until the end of 2019. That is why there is an interrelationship between history and the present, since it is written—in part—as his apostolic journeys, interventions, diplomatic actions, and discourses are carried out. To this is added an important quantity of writings of his authorship, as well as of some of his predecessors, in order to frame the question in a historically correct way and to understand his approach to issues of politics and international diplomacy, given his investiture as a religious and—at the same time—political leader

Book Cuba EEUU la hora del deshielo

Download or read book Cuba EEUU la hora del deshielo written by Guerrero Vall, Joan Antoni and published by Editorial UOC. This book was released on 2016-09-02 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Building Bridges Not Walls Construyamos puentes no muros

Download or read book Building Bridges Not Walls Construyamos puentes no muros written by John Francis Burke and published by Liturgical Press. This book was released on 2016-02-16 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are you a leader, clergy or lay, in a Catholic parish wrestling with how to bridge the multiple ethnic, linguistic, and racial communities that increasingly comprise your parish? With these cultural backgrounds frequently come diverse perspectives on everything from how to communicate with each other to how to understand God. In addition, such cultural divisions all too often manifest differences in the access these communities have to parish decision-making structures. In Building Bridges, Not Walls - Construyamos puentes, no muros, John Francis Burke highlights the dramatic impact the growing Latino presence is having in parishes across the country, considers the theology of inculturation and intercultural ministry, and provides practical pastoral ministry suggestions on doing intercultural ministry. Includes full text in both English and Spanish.

Book Spain and the Wider World since 2000

Download or read book Spain and the Wider World since 2000 written by Morten Heiberg and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-10-04 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers the first comprehensive study of Spanish foreign policy since 2000. Based on privileged access to some of Spain’s most important foreign policy actors – including Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and Foreign Minister Miguel Ángel Moratinos – the book offers an insider account of how Spanish foreign policy was shaped within the context of international diplomacy. It offers crucial new insights into the foreign policy of the PSOE governments (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party, 2004 to 2011). The volume considers the changes on the international stage since the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, showing how regional conflicts and tensions affected the policy agendas of the West. To increase security and prosperity at home, the 2004 Spanish socialist government reasoned that they could no longer rely exclusively on unilateral measures, old Cold War alliances or a ‘Spain-first’ approach. Against the backdrop of this changing world, the book explores the concept of ‘effective multilateralism’ put forward by the PSOE, in which Spain abandoned its hitherto unconditional support for the US and instead engaged in a series of multilateral collaborations with regions around the world. Above all, this study seeks to provide a new international history of contemporary Spain, demonstrating how domestic changes intersected with global transformations, and put forward the argument that diplomacy works.

Book News Neoliberalism and Miami s Fragmented Urban Space

Download or read book News Neoliberalism and Miami s Fragmented Urban Space written by Moses Shumow and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2016-11-23 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: News, Neoliberalism, and Miami’s Fragmented Urban Space examines cultural and social forces responsible for inequalities that have emerged in the rampant development of Miami as a “world city.” This book argues that neoliberal movements rely on the power of journalistic discourses to authorize and legitimize harmful social acts such as gentrification. Moses Shumow and Robert E. Gutsche Jr. provide original analyses of intersections among memory, race, capitalism, and journalistic power, particularly at a time of immense political and environmental change. The authors examine changes in neighborhoods and in public-private developments that are bound to widen an already-great divide between classes and races in South Florida.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book From Welcomed Exiles to Illegal Immigrants

Download or read book From Welcomed Exiles to Illegal Immigrants written by Felix Roberto Masud-Piloto and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 1996 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Cuban migration to the United States has altered the face of American politics and demographics. From Welcomed Exiles to Illegal Immigrants, the only scholarly study available of this Cuban migration, analyzes its political dynamics and unique character. In this revised and expanded edition of his 1988 book With Open Arms, Masud-Piloto here extends the discussion with an examination of the Bush and Clinton administrations' responses to recent events in Cuba. Masud-Piloto, an expert on Cuban and Caribbean migrations and a Cuban emigre himself, draws on previously unavailable documents, as well as his first-hand experience, to describe American attempts to destabilize the Castro government by draining Cuba of vitally needed teachers, physicians, and technicians, and to embarrass the revolution by exposing the flight of Cuba's citizens to a "free" country. Masud-Piloto's examination of the Haitian and Central American refugee crises of the past two decades provides a useful comparative perspective." --Book Jacket.

Book excerpt: Though women played an integral role in the conquest of the New World, little has been written about their contributions. This Spanish-language work examines the lives and deeds of women who influenced the course of history in the Americas some 500 years ago. Covered in detail are the lives of Maria de Toledo, first woman governor in America; Isabel de Bobadilla, governor of Cuba and instrumental in the Spanish expedition to Florida; Ana Francisca de Borja, governor of Peru and a military leader; Beatriz de la Cueva, governor of Guatemala and a political leader; Maria de Penalosa, governor of Nicaragua and a military strategist; Isabel Barreto y Quiros, first and only woman admiral of the Spanish navy; and mestizo leaders Francisca Pizarro and Leonor de Alvarado. Also covered are more than 40 other women of the same period--Spanish, Indian, and black--who held a wide variety of leadership positions. The book draws its information from the writings of respected early historians as well as historical documents from libraries and archives in Spain, Latin America and the United States.
